About the role

We are looking for an exceptional individual to manage Christian Aid's advocacy and influencing work in the UK. The post holder will be responsible for ensuring that the organisation has the relationships, credibility, appropriate policy positions and strategic approach required to effectively influence policies and practices in Westminster, Whitehall and beyond.

This is a senior role which sits in the UK Advocacy and Campaigns Team, and leads the Advocacy element of the team's work. The role manages the work of the Parliamentary and Political Officer and the Senior Church Advocacy Adviser and is responsible for commissioning and overseeing work related to UK international development policy carried out by Policy Advisers . The role works closely with the Campaign Strategy Leads, and with colleagues in Scotland, to ensure that our overarching campaign strategies have a political impact in the UK. The successful candidate will also work closely with the CEO, Director and other senior staff to ensure that they are well networked and well briefed to maximise their political influence, as well as regularly representing the organisation in the political arena themselves.

About you

We are looking for someone with an excellent knowledge of Westminster and Whitehall and a strong track record of influencing decisions made in government and parliament. You will also have excellent knowledge of the development sector and a strong working knowledge of the policy areas that Christian Aid has prioritised. You will be able to conduct robust policy analysis as well as managing other to do the same, and be adept at briefing senior colleagues on complex policy and political issues both verbally and in writing. We need someone who is comfortable working within a campaigning organisation and who can help weave together "insider" and "outsider" tactics to have a demonstrable impact. The successful candidate will have proved their ability to manage yourself and others effectively. You will need experience of leading cross-organisational projects and of influencing peers that you don't line manage as well as of public speaking and, ideally, of engaging with the media. You will also have a good understanding of how to work in a faith-based organisation in the political sphere, of church structures and of faith-based approaches to development.
