About the role
 

As a Strategic Development Manager, you’ll work within the Partnerships Department and play a key role to build on existing significant relationships. In addition, develop new larger Key Partner Relationships and be actively involved with our strategy to selected Church and Event networks.

You’ll be required to speak extensively within church and event settings a call to action, asking people to consider supporting the work of Compassion. To maximise the opportunities from these partnerships and to achieve regional acquisition objectives. The successful candidate would be based in Greater London/within M25 and have good relationships within the ethnically diverse church.

Key Responsibilities:

• Actively maintain and promote Compassion UK’s Christian ethos and values
• Contribute to the development of the Partnerships Team strategy
• Work collaboratively across Compassion UK to effectively meet objectives

The successful candidate will be:

• As a confident public speaker, you'll have the opportunity to share your insights and inspire congregations through preaching in churches. 
• Your sales and fundraising prowess will be key as you lead the sales process from start to finish, nurturing relationships, and exceeding acquisition targets.
• Weekend availability is essential for fostering partnerships and attending events, making a meaningful impact in the community.
• You'll thrive as a self-starter, managing your time effectively and embracing diverse responsibilities, even while working remotely.
• Fluency in English and proficiency in office systems are prerequisites, as is the ability to travel within the UK and occasionally overseas. 
• Have a full driving license and reside in Greater London or within the M25, you'll enjoy mileage expenses and the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of many.
• There’s an occupational requirement for the holder of this role to be a practising Christian, in order to promote Compassion’s ethos and help others to experience, explore and express the faith-based motivation of our work. Location, hours and benefits:

Home-based role
*Successful candidate will be based in Greater London or within the M25.

Hours
35 hours per week over a flexible working pattern with an estimated 24 weekend activities per annum. Although this is a flexible working pattern the core office hours tend to be between 08:00 - 18:00 Monday to Friday, allowing for workload variations.

Person Specification 

• An active Christian, passionate about personally representing the values and beliefs of Resurgo, and our mission to equip and support organisations to play a meaningful part in the repair of our social fabric.
• At least two year’s experience working in an administrative role working with senior leaders, preferably an EA or PA role
• Remarkably efficient with high attention to detail and strong organisational skills; someone who is self-motivated and likes to achieve results
• Confident, calm, diplomatic and confidential, with a mature and flexible approach to work and work relationships
• A proactive forward planner with an ability to anticipate needs ahead of time and work well under pressure
• High emotional intelligence with evidence of a clear understanding of how to use telephone, email, written and verbal communication to build strong working relationships

Key Responsibilities

Personal Administration Support

• Manage the Chief Executive’s diary, optimising the efficient use of time and resources through effective planning and ‘gate-keeping’ in a relational style that represents the charity’s values
• Ensure all necessary briefing papers and documents are compiled for the Chief Executive in good time in advance of meetings
• Prepare and present excellent Powerpoint and other presentations for internal and external audiences, e.g., meetings with donors, trustees and other key stakeholders.

Governance Support

• Co-ordinate and attend Trustees’ meetings, including arranging dates, preparing papers in advance, taking and sending out minutes
• Administrate the Investors’, Communications, Fundraising, Strategy and Finance, and other Trustee Steering Groups
• Support with various ad hoc projects to enable robust organisational governance
• Coordinate the Strategic Delivery team monthly meeting, and Senior Leadership Team weekly meeting, including organising meeting dates, preparing agendas and sending out minutes, as well as ensuring follow-up actions are completed
• Provide administrative support to the wider senior leadership team

Active Participation in the Philanthropy and wider Resurgo Mission

• Help build and develop Resurgo’s ethos and Christian life as a team member.

Contract: Fixed term for 3 years

All parts of the Church will need to raise funds to implement this net zero plan. In 2024 and 2025, the Church of England is testing and piloting a range of approaches to help churches fundraise for projects. Our feasibility study identified that statutory sources of funding, currently under-accessed will be a new area of opportunity for churches, schools and housing to access.

The Giving Directorate is leading on the strategy to coordinate and support the plans being developed by our dioceses, churches, cathedrals, schools, and departments. In addition, The Giving Directorate and NetZero Programme Team will be engaging with funders at a national level to secure investment for projects.

Job Summary:

As Net Zero Carbon Statutory Fundraising Coordinator, you will work in The Giving Directorate and operate across the whole Church with a focus on supporting parishes and dioceses to access statutory funds. You will share your knowledge and insight to support with identifying, researching and applying to funding from a range of government sources. You will develop and maintain resources, guidance and training and help share best practice across the country, as well as working with regional fundraisers. With a range of projects and fundraising initiatives, the post holder will work collaboratively within The Giving Directorate and with the Net Zero Programme Team, with diocesan colleagues and with church volunteers.

The role:

Main responsibilities

• Develop a national plan to secure statutory funding at parish and diocesan level
• Acting as a central point of coordination between the schools, housing and parish fundraising workstreams to oversee statutory funding
• Working specifically with the Regional Fundraising Officer in the north west cluster of dioceses to identify and support applications to statutory funding sources by parishes
• Working with Net Zero Implementation Manager to support statutory funding applications for clergy housing
• Building capacity in dioceses to support senior staff (incl. Bishops) to use their networks to identify relevant statutory funding opportunities (e.g. mayors, local council leadership, police and crime commissioners etc)
• Supporting dioceses to think creatively about packaging projects up a) between parishes, b) between parishes, schools and clergy housing, c) across deaneries.
• Leading consortia of dioceses to apply for funding if available and supporting applications
• Building a hub of best practice and shared learning which will include designing and delivering training to staff and volunteers at all levels
• Sharing statutory funding opportunities across the Church of England, Net Zero Carbon, Giving, and Fundraising networks and with Cathedrals

The ideal candidate:

To be successful, you will need experience of securing statutory funding for projects and of other aspects of fundraising. You will need to be a very strong self-motivator and initiator as the job requires an ability to work across a wide geographical area on a diverse range of projects. Experience managing projects would also be useful. You will be an excellent trainer and communicator.

Due to the specialist nature of the roles within The Giving Directorate, training will be provided to successful candidates to enable them to carry out their role confidently.

Qualifications

• Educated to degree level, or equivalent/relevant experience.
• Membership of the Chartered Institute of Fundraising

Experience

Essential:

• Experience in securing funding from statutory funders
• Success in securing five and six-figure gifts
• Experience of other types of grants and trust fundraising in a paid capacity
• Experience of working successfully in multi-disciplinary teams across departments in a complex organisation.
• Influencing others through communication and strong leadership skills

Desirable:

• Experience of working within the Church sector, either in a paid or voluntary capacity, ideally in relation to giving, fundraising, or church finances.
• Experience working in the environment/low-carbon/sustainability sector.

Competencies Required

• Ability to motivate others to apply for statutory funding and maximise the funds they raise through training, coaching and mentoring, including volunteers and paid fundraisers.
• Effective written and oral communication, including strong attention to detail to write high-quality applications, proposals and presentations.
• Ability to manage time effectively, prioritising tasks and ensuring deadlines are met
• Strong analytical and data management skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to establish positive relationships at all levels.
