Job description

We are recruiting for a Driver based at our Thornycroft Centre in Pontefract to assist in the provision of a safe, efficient and reliable transport service to enable clients to attend the Centre and to travel to and from other locations as may be required for the purposes of the charity. This role will also support and assist other colleagues with the delivery of services within the Centre and community when required.

Responsibilities of this role include ensuring clients are transported to and from the Centre in a safe, courteous and timely manner including those with disabilities or mobility issues; where appropriate, courteously assist clients and their luggage to access and exit the vehicle, including the safe operation of the vehicle’s tail lift; working as part of the Centre team to plan and deliver outreach services, ensuring that clients are transported safely; and assisting colleagues and Centre Co-Ordinator with the delivery of services within the Centre as and when required.

You must also be able to identify any safeguarding concerns regarding client welfare and ensure that any concerns are reported immediately to the Centre Coordinator; accurately handle cash, operate a contactless payment device and maintain appropriate records to account for all transactions; ensure the vehicle is serviced and maintained according to safety guidelines and legislation; carry out and record daily maintenance and safety checks of the vehicle, report   any discrepancies/faults, and remedy where possible.   
You must have a driving license with D1 category and MIDAS qualification would be an advantage.  You must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills; an understanding and empathy with the client group, excellent customer service skills; an understanding of safeguarding and health and safety of the client group; the ability the use own initiative and problem solve with a professional, friendly and caring manner.  You will need to be flexible to work spilt shifts and have a good standard of education including GSCE Math and English (or equivalent).

Previous driving in a work capacity, experience of cash handling and an understanding of the issues faced by former miners and former mining communities would be an advantage.
