Based in an inner city multi-racial area of Leeds, Chapeltown Citizens Advice is an independent charity with 19 paid staff and 45 volunteers that provides a comprehensive advice service from its main office and outreaches.
We are looking for 2 fte advisers to join the Help to Claim Team. You will establish a client's eligibility for Universal Credit, perform benefit checks and support clients to make a Universal Credit claim where appropriate. You will work from Chapeltown Citizens Advice and outreach venues, contributing to both the Help to Claim service and our wider service ambitions. We will accept applications from people willing to work between 3 and 5 days per week.
You will be an experienced adviser in which case you’ll have a knowledge of the welfare benefits system, excellent IT skills and the ability to interview clients using sensitive listening and questioning skills to get to the root of the issues, empowering clients accessing the service, whilst maintaining structure and control of interviews. With a background in advice work, you will be able to assess client needs, identify related issues and offer support to access other services. Having knowledge of the benefit system including universal credit and legacy benefits is essential.
