Job description

Strategy Development: 

  • Participate in development of the Communications plan, contributing tactical & creative ideas around implementation
  • Tailor content in the communications strategy to the interests of priority audiences
  • Ensure delivery of the communications strategy is aligned with Community Organising principles

Materials Development & Dissemination:

  • Create written, visual and audio content that delivers against the communications plan
  • Ensure timely, quality, delivery against the Communications plan
  • Support development of brand materials
  • Support CUK and project staff to make effective use of the brand
  • Draft, edit, produce and distribute printed and online materials for stakeholders and for members; including a quarterly e-newsletter and other materials agreed in the communications plan
  • Supervise the work of volunteers, junior staff or contractors ensuring a high standard of content and design

External Relationships (including media & press):

  • Develop relationships with our network of leaders and enable them to have ownership over parts of the communications plan
  • Develop relationships with projects and partners relevant to campaigns and projects, including the Living Wage Foundation, Sponsor Refugees and Parents and Communities Together
  • Field queries from stakeholders including members, online supporters, journalists and partners

Social Media, Email & Website:

  • Develop and implement new ideas for the use of email and social media to achieve goals around supporter engagement and digital campaigns
  • Demonstrate ability to use digital platforms strategically
  • Write engaging content and oversee visuals and design
  • Monitor breaking news and take initiative to respond appropriately
  • Maintain social media accounts and support the social media strategy
  • Develop, manage, update, edit and write content for the website 

Campaigns & Events:

  • Manage campaigns and/or events, including generation of plans and budgets
  • Provide creative, editorial and operational support for campaigns
  • Deliver key campaign objectives to time and budget; including reporting on key performance indicators
  • Support the comms teams work delivering priority campaign interventions around the Living Wage campaign
  • Help market and communicate events and fundraising appeals

Internal Comms & Knowledge Management:

  • Periodically update key communications files and assets; ensuring that informed consent is obtained if required
  • Deliver parts of the internal comms schedule as part of a wider team
  • Develop and manage a flexible and developing supporter database of members and interested parties to communicate with directly
  • Ensure consent and the case study log is up to date for those who have agreed to be featured in communications activity
  • Maintain library for photos, blog content and other digital assets
  • Ensure subject access and other data queries and requests which relate to databases Communications are responsible for are dealt with

Reputational & Risk Management:

  • Be ready to respond appropriately (as part of the team) to risks as they emerge
  • Help build and maintain CUK’s reputation amongst the membership and key opinion formers
  • Track record of appropriate external communication according to the agreed messages / protocol

Internal Relationships:

  • Demonstrate ability to coordinate the work of colleagues across the organisation and manage external suppliers and providers
