City Year UK is a youth social action charity which challenges 18 to 25-year-olds to tackle educational inequality through a year of full-time voluntary service. As mentors, tutors and role models in schools, they support pupils growing up in some of the most disadvantaged communities in the UK.
In the new academic year, we will partner with new schools across London, West Midlands & Greater Manchester to expand our programme delivery; supporting disadvantaged children and developing young adults. We are looking for exceptional individuals to deliver our innovative programme in the role of School Project Officer.
Position: School Project Officer (known internally as Impact Officer)
Locations: London, West Midlands & Greater Manchester

Job type: Permanent
Hours: Full-time OR Part-time (3 days per week). Fridays are fixed working days for volunteer development.
Salary: Inside London: £24,000- £26,400 per annum, dependant on experience and school allocation.
Outside London: £22000 - £24,000 per annum, dependant on experience and school allocation.
Benefits: 43 days of holiday leave (minimum) per annum to be taken during school holidays only. There is a short period of compulsory training at the end of the summer holidays where no leave can be taken.

About the role:
The School Project Officer is based predominantly in a partner school and is the primary link between the school(s) and City Year UK . The Impact Officer is the custodian of City Year UK programme delivery and responsible for managing one (PT) or two (FT) teams of Volunteer Mentors as well as coordinating, monitoring and the evaluating the programme that City Year UK delivers.
You will be supported by a Programme Manager and play a key role in the management, training and retention of Volunteer Mentors for a maximum of two schools. You will have pastoral oversight for the team and their relationships. Stakeholders will include children, parents, senior education professionals and funders.
To succeed in this role you will have a passion for education, children and young people and may have experience of working in a school setting, voluntary, youth or social work. Ideally, you will have some understanding of school leadership priorities and an ability to represent City Year UK in this context. You will be able to deal with idealistic volunteers competently, with excellent communication skills and the resilience to enable you to deal with problems in a solution-focused manner.
You will also have experience of team management, influencing, persuading and negotiation skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills are also required for the post.
