Hours: 29 hours per week

Contract Type: Fixed Term Contract (until 31st July 2020)

External independent living contracts are part of RNIB’s Confidence Building Service. This post is part of a funded contract between RNIB and Durham County Council. This contract has been running for several years and has been regularly extended due to the impact of the range of personalised support and fulfils a key role within the Durham Community Support Service for people who are blind or partially sighted. We are now approaching our final year and are looking to appoint an Independent Living Co-ordinator to continue the excellent work following the existing post holder gaining alternative employment.

Working alongside colleagues, you will provide a face to face, personalised, needs led service to visually impaired people in County Durham that enables them to maximise their opportunity for independent living.  You will support blind and partially sighted people to access a range of support and services to help them get on with everyday life and improve their confidence. By providing person centred support you will assist individuals through changes in sight loss or personal circumstances through the provision individual information, advice and guidance case work.

With extensive experience in providing advice and guidance and a working knowledge of welfare benefits, you will have an appreciation of the issues faced by the blind and partially sighted community. You'll also be comfortable working remotely as part of small team to help deliver a range of interventions and establish a professional service for blind and partially sighted people in Durham. Based in Wallsend or Middlesbrough, the post will involve travel across County Durham and occasional travel to meeting locations throughout the UK.
