Job description

This is an exciting new role in the busy Development department of ClientEarth. The organisation has grown by 40% in the last year and as a result has a sizeable grants portfolio that requires leadership and oversight. The role of Head of Grants is therefore a new role, managing a team of grants officers and a manager that oversees the funder relationships and grant reporting of ClientEarth. This is a busy and exciting role for a dynamic individual, keen to be part of ClientEarth's growth at a time where its cause and mission is more urgent than ever.

As Head of Grants you will report to the Global Director of Development and work closely with ClientEarth's programme and finance team. You will be liaising directly with key funders and representing the organisation externally as well as internally.You will be managing a passionate and dedicated team and working closely with colleagues across departments in ensuring that our grants are managed to the highest standards.

You will be responsible for overseeing or managing relationships with all existing grant funders, achieving effective reporting and implementation of grants, and ensuring ClientEarth's systems support all grants activities. You will lead on working with the Programmes and Finance teams to manage renewal proposals and respond to the organisational strategies and medium - longer-term vision. You will be a primary point of contact and key relationship manager between ClientEarth and institutional and statutory funders and represent the organisation publicly at events, conferences and funder meetings as needed. You will be responsible for overseeing team management and structure, by outlining clear responsibilities, accountabilities, and training to ensure the best output is achieved by their team.

Role requirements

You will come with experience in grant management and funder relationships, as well as a robust knowledge of budget management. We are also looking for:

  • Experience managing and winning multiple complex high value grants and budgets
  • Excellent knowledge of foundation, institutional, and statutory income streams and financial processes
  • Excellent knowledge of and experience creating or reviewing Grant and Trust proposals
  • Experience of working in a not-for-profit organisation, grant making trust or legal environment
