Outreach and Development Facilitator

 

Reporting to:

Meitheal Management Committee

 

Responsible for:

Developing, supporting and championing new and existing Irish education, culture, heritage and welfare projects and promoting the work of Comhaltas in Britain. Developing and implementing a successful fund-raising strategy.

 

 

Background of Company:

Comhaltas in Britain is a charity that is dedicated to the promotion of Traditional Irish culture, education, heritage and welfare, through music, song, dance, language and friendship across Britain.

Comhaltas in Britain is part of the worldwide Comhaltas movement. Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann is the largest worldwide organisation devoted to the promotion and preservation of Irish Traditional Music, Song, and Dance & Language since 1951.

In Britain there are 25 branches across four regions that are spread throughout the country, each with its own story and dynamic interpretation of Irish Culture. Comhaltas in Britain have been accredited by Investors in People in spring 2020 and as part of their review process we will be subject to annual reviews and the initial accreditation period is for 3 years - running until spring 2023.

The role is part funded by the Irish Abroad Unit, at the Irish Department for Foreign Affairs and Trade

 

Main purpose of job:

  • Develop a clear fundraising and partnership development strategy setting out clear annual plans and executing them against agreed financial targets
  • Forge positive relationships with supporters within local and wider communities increasing charity’s income with a focus on grants, corporate partnerships and individual giving
  • Improving communications with a particular focus on digital fundraising including helping to build a stronger online community through improved social media and donor/ supporter communication via email, website etc.
  • Increase the capacity of individuals and groups by building relationships and exploring new opportunities from various sources
  • Raise awareness of Comhaltas in Britains’s aims and goals promoting the organisations health and wellbeing agenda
  • Develop, support and champion both new and existing education, culture, heritage and welfare projects
  • Support the delivery of the Comhaltas in Britain priorities by leading education, welfare, cultural and heritage projects which are complemented by the organisation’s communications strategy
  • Building and empowering a volunteer team to implement the proposed strategy and help oversee the diversity of activities

 

Responsibilities, duties and tasks:

  • To attend events of behalf of the Charity both within and outside of office hours working with existing corporate supporters; stewarding them to maximise income and provide the highest levels of supporter relationship management.
  • To research and apply for new corporate support
  • To support those taking part in events to raise money for the charity including runs and challenges
  • To organise the charity’s events recruiting and supporting participants and recruiting volunteers.
  • To research and identify influential individuals in schools to build relationships
  • Deliver school assemblies to spread the word about the charity’s work and encourage them to engage with the charity.
  • To coordinate the volunteer speaker programme including the recruitment of new speakers, researching new groups to talk to and deliver talks where needed.
  • Be the first point of contact for groups and individuals organising community education, welfare and cultural activities, to liaise with them, help and encourage them, to raise money for the charity and provide the highest levels of supporter relationship management.
  • Along with others on the team, support the management of the corporate website, social media and blog ensuring they are user focused and consistently meet best practice editorial and publishing standards
  • Help with organising supporting and promoting educational, welfare and cultural events such as fleadhanna, fundraising, concerts, music classes and meetings
  • Prepare report and guidelines to support the work of the Comhaltas in Britain
  • Support the production and analysis of management information from a variety of reporting tools, interpreting the successes of our communications and identifying potential areas for improvement
  • Engaging with partner organisations and other like-minded Cultural organisations, welfare bodies of behalf of multigenerational Irish community and representing the wider community where possible
  • Bringing new creative ideas around communication and marketing, taking the lead in identifying strong stories and engaging news content. Working with the management teams on the production of various fundraising/ marketing materials. This will include our Treoir, specific annual appeals/campaigns, digital communication, thank you letters and other relevant donor communication
  • Working with management team to ensure donations are appropriately tracked in our donor database and that donors are thanked in a timely manner

General duties:

  • Ensuring compliance with terms and conditions of funding, reporting requirements, relevant legislation and governance policies
  • Monitoring adherence to compliance rules, regulations and procedures
  • Best practices- improve processes and policies in support of organisational goals
  • Management of third-party relations- ensure that correct procedures are followed where third parties are engaged
  • Undertaking other duties at the direction of the Meithal Management team/ provincial council, so as to ensure the success of Comhaltas in Britain

PERSON SPECIFICATION

EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE:

It is essential that the post holder has:

  • Knowledge and at least 2 years’ experience of a proven track record in organisational effectiveness, preferably in the music / education / arts sector – charities sector / community sector / digital comms etc.
  • A well developed and successful track record of managing and implementing digital strategies / fundraising opportunities
  • A demonstrable track record of delivering results in fundraising
  • At least 3 years’ experience of Educational, welfare, cultural and community project work, events and corporate fundraising

 

It is desirable that the post holder has:

  • Experience of successfully developing, supporting and empowering a team of volunteers demonstrating effective leadership

 

 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

It is essential that the post holder has:     

  • A high level of enthusiasm for Irish culture, especially traditional music, dance and language.
  • Collaborative and service-oriented with the ability and motivation to work well on own initiative and contribute in a flexible way as part of a small, close-knit team
  • An effective organiser, with an ability to design and implement efficient strategies combined with excellent attention to detail and an appetite for organising
  • Possesses initiative, along with the capacity to develop creative, innovative ideas and the ability to make things happen
  • Possessing excellent written and positive interpersonal communication skills
  • Well-developed IT skills and a high degree of proficiency with end user tools (word, excel, databases)
  • Ability to network effectively building good relationships with the community and businesses.

 

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS/TRAINING:

It is desirable that the post holder has:

  • A third level qualification (music / education / arts)

This post is subject to DBS or Disclosure Scotland Vetting and there being no disclosure of convictions which Comhaltas in Britain considers would render the candidate unsuitable to work with children/vulnerable adults. This vetting process will commence on appointment.
