About FareShare South West
FareShare South West is the region’s largest food redistribution charity. We take good-to-eat surplus food that would otherwise go to waste, and share it with over 400 charities, schools and community hubs across the south west, joining the dots between food waste and hunger and transforming an environmental problem into social good.
Purpose of role
We’re restructuring our Fundraising and Communications team to increase our capacity to communicate engaging stories about the breadth of our work.
In this creative role, you will plan, create and deliver print and digital marketing content to support this important work, ensuring potential supporters (including volunteers, fundraisers, food suppliers and key local stakeholders) know about our social and environmental impact.
The pay scale for this role reflects that we're open to applications from experienced communications professionals, and also those looking to move into the sector who have transferable skills. Please note: the salary range for this post has been amended since it was first advertised.
Job description
• Work with the Communications Manager to develop and deliver an annual comms schedule, including proactively sourcing case studies and testimonials with video, photography and written content
• Work with the Communications Manager to develop and implement a social media plan with metrics for monitoring and evaluation
• Create and share engaging content across all our social channels (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X) to meet objectives
• Launch TikTok as a new content platform
• Design print materials including posters and leaflets
• Keep the website up to date
• Support the Communications Manager with the circulation and promotion of press releases and management of press database, comms crisis plan and FAQs
• Assist with the delivery of internal communications
• Regularly review and refresh our bank of testimonials and statistics, managing permissions for content
• Work closely with the fundraising team to creating compelling appeals content to generate income
• Act as an ambassador for our charity, sharing our values and engaging with the public
• Work collaboratively with staff teams (Food Sourcing, Volunteering, Membership, Fundraising, Employability and warehouse teams in Bristol and Plymouth) to ascertain and fulfil their comms needs
• Work collaboratively with young people on our FareChance employability programme, supporting them to learn new professional skills and developing an exciting new youth-led, inclusive aspect of our comms
• Support student interns, volunteers and warehouse-based comms leads with comms projects
• Proactively seek out examples of comms best practice and developments, including building relationships with partner charities in the FareShare network
Other
• Undertake any other reasonable duties to support the operations of the charity
• Assist on monitoring progress, impact, and success against KPIs

About Thyroid UK
Thyroid UK is a charitable organisation working to inform and support people living with thyroid disorders in the UK and campaigning on their behalf for the right tests to diagnose thyroid disease and to have a choice of treatment options.
The provision of quality information for people with both diagnosed and undiagnosed thyroid disorders is the primary concern of Thyroid UK, and we work effectively in this field through dialogue with NHS departments, networking with other voluntary organisations, and providing services directly to patients. We work to encourage scientific research for the education, alleviation, care, treatment and cure of thyroid disease and seek to influence public health policy for the benefit of people affected.
Role and Responsibilities
We are seeking a Charity Operations Manager to run the smooth, effective operation of the organisation so we can best support people in the UK living with thyroid disease. This is a management role leading on all operational activities, supporting and working in close collaboration with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Salary will be reviewed after an initial 6 month probationary period.
This role involves minimal supervision and is responsible for the day to day running and management of the charity.
General office management:
· General secretarial and administrative support including routine office tasks where needed
· To manage all operational activity of the charity according to the strategic direction provided by the Board of Trustees
· To be responsible for all aspects of staff and volunteer management, including recruitment, training and supervision
· Collaborating with other team members to ensure that information flows effectively
Support the CEO:
· Foster good relationships with other charities, organisations and research groups; supporting beneficiaries; liaising with patrons, medical advisers and trustees to support continued engagement
· Plan, market, manage and organise/deliver our projects such as conferences, webinars, surveys etc. to meet our strategic goals
· To ensure the financial sustainability of the charity by identifying and securing appropriate funding that supports the charity in achieving its objectives.
· To lead on trust and corporate fundraising to ensure our income streams remain stable and sustainable.
· Draft, proofread and publish the quarterly member magazine
· Draft and send our E-news to our beneficiaries
· Development of the website
· Management of IT systems
· Recruit, manage and supervise our volunteers
· Recruit and line manage staff
· Maintain and update the suite of governance policies to ensure
Thyroid UK is compliant with legal requirements and, where possible, best practices
· Identify opportunities to improve policies and procedures
· Prepare the annual report and other necessary documents and send to the Charity Commission and Companies House
Support the Board:
· Set Board meeting dates; preparing Board meeting papers, agendas and minutes, and liaise directly with Board members, in close collaboration with the CEO
· Contribute to the development and long term strategy of the charity providing regular reports to the board of trustees
· GDPR compliance in the role of GDPR Officer
· The role will require attendance at Board meetings that take place on Saturdays quarterly with one in London per year
Skills required to be successful in this role include:

Reporting to the Communications and Engagement Manager, the successful candidate will be a confident copywriter, with experience of writing for a variety of communication channels. You’ll be committed to making communications accessible and enthusiastic about reducing health inequalities for Ovacome’s key underserved populations. You’ll enjoy working across departments, collaborating with colleagues on communication campaigns.
Key responsibilities of the role will include:
· Creating high quality content for Ovacome’s communication channels, with a copywriting focus.
· Collecting real-life stories from Ovacome’s members, helping to amplify the voices of the ovarian cancer community, ensuring that the stories we share represent the diverse experiences of those we support.
· Securing media coverage for activity relating to fundraising and event promotion.
