Job Summary:

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Charity Fundraiser to join our dedicated team in Malton, North Yorkshire. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing fundraising strategies to support the goals of our mental health charity. This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of those affected by mental health issues.

Key Responsibilities:

• Promote awareness of our objectives and our work to relieve suffering and distress
• Research and identify potential funding sources and grant opportunities
• Prepare grant proposals and manage grant reporting requirements
• Develop and implement fundraising strategies to meet or exceed fundraising targets
• Cultivate and maintain relationships with donors, sponsors, and supporters
• Recruit and lead a team of fundraising volunteers
• Plan and execute fundraising events, campaigns, and initiatives
• Collaborate with colleagues e.g. Comms Assistant to create fundraising initiatives
• Provide excellent customer service to donors, sponsors, and supporters
• Monitor and analyse fundraising data to assess performance

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in communications, business, public relations, or related field
• Certification, diploma, or similar qualification in fundraising
• Proven experience in fundraising (minimum of three-years), preferably within the mental health charity sector
• Strong knowledge of fundraising principles, techniques, and best practices
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including having confidence in public speaking, and paying good attention to detail
• Ability to lead and motivate volunteers
• Ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders
• Strong organisational and project management skills
• Customer service-oriented mindset
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
• Passion for mental health advocacy and a commitment to making a positive impact

About Community Counselling:

The charity was established in 2013.  It provides free therapeutic interventions such as counselling, play and creative art therapy, and EMDR (trauma) treatment to vulnerable people living in North Yorkshire, including children who have been the victim of crime. The clinical team consists of over 30 part-time practitioners, being a mixture of staff, volunteers (including trainees) and sessional workers.  Last year we helped over 800 people with a wide range of mental health issues.

Development / Fundraising Assistant
Hours: Minimum 30 hours per week, with flexibility to increase to 37 hours per week. (Some evening and weekend work required in line with fundraising events).
Salary: £24,031 - £25,863 per annum FTE (£19,484.59 - £20,970 pro rata for 30 hours per week) dependant on skills, experience and knowledge
Contract: Permanent
Base: Osney Mead, Oxford, Frequent travel within Oxfordshire and Berkshire required.

What will you do?

This role is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to learn and grow within the Fundraising sector.

This is an integral part of the development team, providing essential support across various fundraising initiatives and providing excellent supporter stewardship (nurturing our supporters/fundraisers on their journey with us). This is to maximise income and encourage supporters to remain engaged with our charity.

You will represent the charity at various events, meetings and networking opportunities to build opportunities with supporters to help them reach their fundraising potential!

What’s essential?

• Strong administration skills to maintain the Customer Relationship Management system (CRM) and previous experience of CRM systems.
• Excellent customer service and relationship/interpersonal skills.
• Proactive and solutions focused approach to work.

Key responsibilities:

• Supporting Fundraisers throughout their journey with us (stewardship) such as but not limited to; send materials to fundraisers such as t-shirts, and certificates, making calls/thank you calls, sending letters to event supporters.
• Attending events and assisting with activities on the day.
• Responding to supporters’ queries and requests, providing email cover across multiple inboxes.
• Help support content for communications/marketing.
• Help support the team identify fundraising opportunities.
• Maintain, develop and update the Customer Relationship Management system (CRM) system and in turn become the team's champion/subject expert.

We are looking for an experienced CEO or senior charity manager, able to manage the business functions of a charity that is just starting out. You will have a proven track record of managing a small, prosocial organisation and setting up the systems necessary for success. You will have skills to work strategically, have business management skills, be able to lead and grow a team and work relationally. 

As CEO an important goal will be to put the charity on a firm foundation for long-term sustainability. You will work with our fundraising consultant to ensure a steady income stream of core funding, ensuring financial stability for employees and building partnerships with local organisations to maximise impact and sustainability through collaborative work and partnership bids. This requires considerable, skilled networking and relationship-building, both within the Church’s Community Hub, with our existing partner VCFSE organisations and in the wider sector, including local Councils, PCNs and the ICB.

You will also be principally responsible for the organisation’s HR function, risk and compliance, as well as its monitoring and evaluation of impact (for quality assurance and fundraising purposes). This means ensuring best practice is observed and maintained in these and related areas, including line management, service policy, financial management, safeguarding and data privacy. 

Knowledge and/or lived experience of mental health difficulties and the relevant support services/treatment modalities is essential; experience working within the mental health sector is highly desirable. We are seeking someone who is passionate about mental health and views this role as an exciting, long-term opportunity to make a significant difference to the lives of thousands of adults in Birmingham.
