Job Purpose

The function of this role is to work with the Head of Development to devise and implement a programme of successful alumni events and fundraising for The Glasgow Academy.

Alumni Engagement: The focus is to build positive relationships with all members of the school and wider communities, including that of the former Westbourne School for Girls. The postholder will help to deliver The Academy’s alumni engagement strategy and volunteer programme, including various events, reunions and the like, with the aim of providing a pipeline of engaged individuals willing to support the School through their time, expertise, connections and philanthropy.

Development Manager: The post holder will coordinate and support the systems and procedures underpinning the cultivation and solicitation of donors; manage a series of 1-2-1 meeting with and small cultivation events for donors/prospects and prepare appropriate communications to support the same.

The post-holder will report to the Head of Development. The Development Team sits within the External Relations office which works to support the continuing development of The Academy through admissions, marketing, alumni relations, fundraising and by promoting the school’s achievements and aspirations as a centre of excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Fundraising:

· Maintain and grow relationships with key former pupils, current parents and potential donors to devise and execute bespoke programme of involvement and communication that lead to (major and regular) gifts.

· Work with Head of Development to implement specific strategies for engagement opportunities including involvement in FP programmes, invitations to events, visits to campus, and individual meetings with members of staff or Senior Leadership Team.  

· Devise and implement fundraising strategies to include: Capital Campaign Fundraising, Named Prizes, Fundraising for Bursaries/Legacy Giving/Regular Giving. Hold direct 1-2-1 solicitations and draft and send gift agreements to solicit gifts.

· Ensure all donations are recorded and thanked promptly/appropriately in CRM In Touch database. Build and export queries or lists for various events, mailers and groupings as needed.

· Maintain accurate, up-to-date and GDPR-compliant potential and current donor records.

Events and communications:

· Manage the planning, execution and promotion of alumni events for potential supporters (alumni, parents and staff) – which will include some evening and weekend work.

· Make full use of The Academy’s existing calendar of events as a means of engaging with potential supporters.

· Organise catering, transportation and other elements necessary for the successful running of alumni events.

· Contribute to and assist with the publication of the former pupil magazine.

· Develop, collate and edit content (and edit copy written by others) for the alumni section of The Academy’s website, newsletters and publications as required, liaising with relevant staff for content, as required.

· Create donation literature to include giving forms and gift agreements.

· Produce, and test, written ‘case for support’ messaging.

· Assist with the writing, design and production of fundraising communications.

· Organise email communications with alumni via InTouch database email system.

· Produce written materials for a range of school and alumni communications.

· Maintain the school’s online alumni social networks (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn) and drive up participation across all platforms.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Engagement & Marketing Director role was created last year to drive forward our next strategic phase of engagement – determining how we influence, engage and mobilise people and communities to plant and protect urban trees. The maternity cover will continue to work closely with the senior team to finalise the engagement strategy and implement from 2025. Purpose of the role

Our PR & Media Manager is crucial to our plans to scale up our media coverage as we enter the final years of our campaign to end bear bile farming in Vietnam. As part of the Comms team, you will work closely with colleagues in our Programmes and Fundraising teams to amplify their work through public relations, celebrity support and media activity. Your key areas of responsibility will include press office management, preparing PR & Media plans for each of our key markets, preparing pitches, media releases and content for media outreach and building a library of case studies to showcase our work. Your other key area of responsibility is supporting our highly successful celebrity liaison to raise Animals Asia’s profile through earned, owned and shared digital platforms, print and broadcast media. You will possess the knowledge, skills, and creativity to help us raise awareness of Animals Asia and what we stand for, helping us grow our supporter base and meet our brand goals. You will be managed and supported by our Global Head of PR and Media.

Key duties:

1. Responding to media enquiries, drafting media releases, undertaking proactive pitch development, outreach to journalists, maintaining our database of media contacts and other general press office management.
2. Supporting our Founder and our Global Head of PR and Media to develop and grow relationships with influencers and high-profile supporters, and deliver campaigns involving celebrities and influencers.

Person Specification

• Minimum of three years’ experience of working in a busy press office or PR agency, including drafting press releases and responding to media enquiries.

• Experience of working with celebrities, their managers and agents.
• Good understanding of reputation management and associated risks.
• Experience in using media monitoring software to track media engagement, journalists and coverage.

The Role

As our PR Manager, you will take a central role in raising the profile and awareness of Yorkshire Cancer Research and the work of the charity.

About You

To be considered for this role, you will need:

· A degree or equivalent professional experience in Public Relations, Journalism, English or Communications.

· Significant experience in a media/PR environment, preferably with experience of managing others within this environment. Experience of planning or leading PR or media campaigns.

· Excellent computer literacy, with extensive knowledge of MS Office applications.

· An understanding of the media and social media landscape, and their relationship with charity PR.

· An understanding or appreciation of the charity sector, the priorities and the challenges.

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Who are Women’s Aid?   

Women’s Aid is the national charity working to end domestic abuse against women and children. We are a federation of over 170 organisations which provide just under 300 local lifesaving services to women and children across England. Purpose of the Senior Media Relations Officer role:   

As Senior Media Relations Officer, the successful candidate will play an integral role in all proactive and reactive media, working closely with the Communications Manager and the Head of Media, Brand and Relationships. This role is intrinsic to the running of Women’s Aid’s fast-paced press office, influencing, responding to and driving the media agenda on domestic abuse and violence against women and girls. Key duties and responsibilities of the Senior Media Relations Officer: 

• To be the first point of contact for media and publicity enquiries, cultivating excellent media relationships 

• To be part of the out-of-hours on call rota for media enquiries. 

• To help identify media opportunities and to maximise positive media coverage for Women’s Aid. 

• To employ extensive horizon-scanning and support on any media crisis communications. 

• To produce press releases, statements and other promotional copy for Women’s Aid.

What we are looking for in our Senior Media Relations Officer: 

• At least 2 years’ professional experience of working in journalism, PR or similar. 

• Demonstrated history of achieving significant proactive and reactive media coverage.

• Experience of working with the national press. 

• Experience of responding at speed to breaking news and reactive requests to leverage coverage. 

• Experience of adapting to the changing media landscape. 

• Experience of using media monitoring and delivery platforms. 

• Experience of briefing senior internal and external figures to convey organisational messages. 

• Experience of using a range of computer packages, particularly Microsoft Office packages.

• Experience of online communications, including uploading copy to websites, and using social media.

• A basic understanding of, and sensitivity to, the issues relating to domestic abuse, including the nature of domestic abuse and its impact on women and children.

About the role

The postholder will have a unique opportunity to lead delivery of our communications strategy, supporting the delivery of our organisational objectives and ensuring we maximise our 20th anniversary year to raise IHP’s profile and grow our community.

You’ll manage a small, but fantastic team of committed communications professionals, whilst working alongside other teams to effectively tell IHP’s story, and the stories of those we serve.
