Job Description

Role

To strengthen support for local activity organisers marking Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) through media engagement and resources, whilst also playing a key role in the development of plans for HMD 2020.

Main duties

  • Increase and communicate the impact of local HMD activities
  • Drive greater media awareness of local HMD activities
  • Coordinate planning for HMD 2020 – a landmark anniversary year

Responsibilities

Local HMD activities 

  • Support and enable local HMD activity organisers to manage any potential political challenges, for example around contemporary antisemitism or controversial speakers
  • Encourage local HMD activity organisers to use HMDT resources to deepen their knowledge of the Holocaust, Nazi Persecution and subsequent genocides, alongside relevant contemporary issues
  • Support local HMD activity organisers to expand the reach and communicate the impact of their activities
  • Ensure that the HMD website enables activity organisers to deepen their engagement with HMD
  • Work as part of the HMDT Communications team to develop resources, content and communications that adhere to HMDT’s style and brand
  • Ensure HMDT engages with a wider range of people and organisations
  • Encourage existing supporters to deepen their engagement with HMD
  • Work closely with the Outreach Team when supporting local activity organisers, ensuring good communication between teams 

Media

  • Handle media enquiries, draft press releases and articles to support local HMD activities
  • Work with Regional and National Support Workers to support regional media requests
  • Ensure that the impact of more than 7,700 local HMD activities is communicated widely and clearly in the media
  • Support the Communications Manager in the production of copy, including press releases, digital content and resources
  • Develop and use information systems to prepare reports and statistics

Holocaust Memorial Day 2020

  • Lead on planning for HMD 2020 – a key anniversary year, 75 years since the liberation of Auschwitz
  • Provide strategic planning support to members of the HMDT management and staff teams as they look ahead to HMD 2020
  • Develop and co-ordinate a national commemorative project that links local activities and the UK Ceremony
  • Explore opportunities and develop a strategy for local activity organisers and the general public to participate in HMD 2020 commemorations
  • Work closely with key stakeholders including trustees, survivors and activity organisers
  • Develop literature, reports and resources as required 

General

  • Work as part of the HMDT Communications team to provide support for media work, social media, internal communications, design, brand, public affairs and survivor engagement, as required
  • Work as part of the HMDT team to realise HMDT’s charitable aims and the organisational strategic plan
  • To undertake other tasks as may reasonably be required
