Hope Health Action (HHA) is a Christian NGO passionate about providing life-saving health and disability care to the world’s most vulnerable without discrimination. We work tirelessly to provide health, disability and emergency relief in Haiti, Uganda and South Sudan; empowering local partners to provide dignified and accessible care to the most vulnerable.
HHA started in 2007 when we co-founded a hospital in Haiti that has since become one of the leading health facilities in northern Haiti, home to a maternity and neonatal unit which cares for thousands of mothers and babies every year and one of Haiti’s leading spinal cord injury rehabilitation centres. In recent years we’ve also launched in East Africa providing emergency relief to the South Sudan refugee crisis, providing life-saving aid through emergency food rations, maternal health care and disability projects. We will soon open a major new disability centre in Bidibidi Refugee Settlement, Uganda. We have exciting plans to scale up our work in the coming years and are looking for an ambitious Community Fundraising & Communications Manager to join the team and help us reach these goals.
The role
We are looking for a dynamic, creative and enthusiastic Community Fundraising and Communications Manager to work alongside our Fundraising and Partnerships Manager (FPM) to help develop and manage our fundraising strategy in the coming years, paying particular attention to building our supporter base, developing new partnerships and increasing income. We are looking for a self-motivated and ambitious individual with a genuine passion for international development.
You will have a unique and exciting opportunity to help HHA grow and make a real and tangible impact to our beneficiaries. This includes helping to raise important funds to support the development of our partner hospital in Haiti, alongside a growing range of health, disability and emergency programmes in South Sudan and Uganda. As a small charity, you will have direct links to our field operations, including the opportunity to regularly visit our overseas programmes and have on-going opportunities for cross-departmental learning. We are a small but passionate, friendly and close-knit team where staff are encouraged to execute creative and new ideas, working together to support each other’s efforts.
This is a busy role that will cover a diverse range of our fundraising activities and require someone with the competence and experience to manage multiple aspects of our strategy. It would be desirable for someone to have previous experience working within a small organisation/charity to understand the dynamics between providing strategic development and handling the day-to-day operations.
The person
HHA is looking for someone with the vision and energy to develop a clear 3 year fundraising & partnership development strategy with our FPM that will build upon existing strengths of HHA and develop new, innovative ideas in a professional and effective manner. This will require someone with adaptability, creativity and strong relationship building skills, working with our Finance Manager, Country Directors, CEO and Board of Trustees to design, implement and effectively monitor a strategy. You need to be comfortable working to clear annual plans, executing these against agreed financial targets set with the CEO and reporting back.
Comms:
We’re looking for someone to bring new, creative ideas around our communications and marketing, taking the lead with our programme team in identifying strong stories, engaging news/content for our digital and print communication, including our website, emails, newsletters and social media channels, our twice annual newsletter and materials to support campaigns and events. In order for HHA to grow and fulfil our ambitious vision, inspiring and creating a strategy to engage new supporters will be a central objective for this role.
Community Fundraising:
You’ll work with our FPM on planning and managing a range of annual events in the HHA calendar, from challenge events to galas, from concept to delivery with budget management in between. You’ll also get involved in building and empowering a volunteer team who can help implement the fundraising strategy and help oversee the diversity of activities like our schools and church fundraising activities. With support from our FPM, CEO and design agency, you’ll manage a range of dedicated campaigns and appeals with the support of our in-country team members to deliver growth across HHA’s income streams. Alongside this, you’ll manage HHA’s other fundraising platforms including GlobalGiving, JustGiving and CAF, engaging and maximising impact of HHA’s fundraisers.
If this sounds like you, we’d love you to join our friendly and creative fundraising team to help us to raise the funds needed to continue our life-saving work to those most in need across Haiti and East Africa.
