We are a small community development charity providing support to a network of women-led savings groups called Greater Manchester Savers. We are about to re-brand as Community Savers as we have a new group in Sheffield. The groups in the network are located in some of the lowest-income communities in the North of England which are full of amazing, resilient, enterprising and creative women (and people in general)! We work with people to build community through savings and support groups to develop community-led solutions to poverty and inequality. Our work is informed by a principle of women's leadership and 90% of savings group committees are women. Greater Manchester Savers have been inspired by and are attempting to adapt ideas and approaches from an international social movement called Shack/Slum Dwellers International.
