We are looking for a person who can engage proactively with diverse members of our community and sensitively draw out their views, working effectively with volunteers and partner organisations to reach as many people as possible. Crucially, they will be able to work flexibly as part of a small and committed team – thus ensuring that the intelligence we gather can have a real impact.
Healthwatch Southwark (HWS) is part of Community Southwark. There is a Healthwatch in every area of England, and an umbrella body - Healthwatch England.
- We provide information and signposting on local health and care services.
- We promote and support the involvement of patients and service users in the design, provision and scrutiny of local health and care services.
- We listen to Southwark residents about their needs, and their experiences of health and social care services.
- We voice the views and concerns of local people in order to make health and social care services better.
In recent years we have worked on a huge range of topics including GP access, young people's sexual health, the NHS Long Term Plan, A&E use, nursing homes, mental health crisis, carers, and the experiences of the LGBTQ+ community.
The postholder will be responsible for delivering Healthwatch Southwark’s outreach work, building awareness and trust among diverse residents of the borough in order to develop a solid base for gathering intelligence. They will engage people in projects to investigate a wide range of different areas of health and social care, and work closely with the Research & Intelligence Officer to deliver these projects. In order to maximise our reach, they will lead on the recruitment, development and retention of volunteers.
They will also lead on the provision of signposting and information on local health and care services to local people, with the support of the team.
We've recently reviewed our strategy and want to bring our outreach, signposting and intelligence functions closer together, really build our reach and connect more with seldom heard communities - so this is a great time to join us. At a moment of huge global and local change, fresh ideas are very welcome!
