Job description

The Role

Community and Events fundraising is a key income stream for Crohn’s & Colitis UK bringing in over £1.5 million a year. We aim to be the charity of choice for anyone who has an interest in Crohn’s and Colitis. The Community and Events Fundraising Manager is a vital role within the Income Generation team.

The postholder will lead on Crohn’s & Colitis UK’s community fundraising and events income streams, supporting individuals and groups to raise funds through activities and mass-participation events by consistently delivering the best fundraiser experience possible, high-quality events and inspiring long-term supporter loyalty.

The role holder will develop and deliver our Community and Events fundraising strategy. They will explore new activities, channels and introduce new Community fundraising products as well as managing our invested events programme which includes London Marathon and Great North Run and our flagship mass-participation events including our award-winning Walk IT event. The postholder will also oversee our growing Facebook fundraiser income, ensuring we are delivering excellent stewardship and implementing strategies for growth.

The Charity

Our fundraising campaigns have gone from strength to strength, and we have been delighted and inspired by our community which has responded to our new, and in some cases virtual, fundraising activities with enthusiasm. The continuation of their support has been so great to see and we’re extremely grateful. In 2020 we surpassed our income predications despite changes in our fundraising due to the pandemic, and we are on track to surpass them again in 2021.

We are looking ahead to a period of growth as we put the impact of the pandemic behind us and innovate and adapt further. We are confident the charity can continue to support those who need us, and our new organisational strategy will give us the direction and drive for the next exciting chapter in the charity’s future.

About You

You will be a highly motivated and target driven individual who has successfully managed large-scale, high-quality events and run marketing campaigns to recruit event participants or fundraisers, as well as producing new fundraising products, events or community fundraising activities. You will be experienced in and enjoy developing engaging supporter journeys for your fundraisers and event participants to inspire and engage their long-term support. 

You'll have significant experience of leading and managing teams as well as budgetary and financial management responsibilities, and be adept at negotiating with suppliers to achieve the best deal, and analysing activities to asses ROI and financial success. You will have a keen interest in the Events and Community Fundraising sector, keeping a close eye on developments and trends and enjoy exploring new income channels including digital and virtual.

Your excellent communication and interpersonal skills will enable you to engage effectively with key stakeholders, supporters and colleagues from across the charity.
