Communications & Community Engagement Executive (part-time 25hrs per week – 12mth fixed term contract)

Location: Birmingham

National Express Group is an international transport company operating in eight countries across the world. Its UK business includes the iconic white coach business and local bus services in the West Midlands and Dundee.

The Birmingham-based UK Communications team is responsible for managing and enhancing the reputation of the Group with the media and external stakeholders, communicating with employees and engaging with the wider community through a number of initiatives.

A key delivery channel for the UK community strategy, is the Group’s own registered charity: The National Express Foundation. Since its launch in 2012, the Foundation has awarded hundreds of thousands of pounds which has helped over 17,000 young people enjoy positive and developmental activities within their local communities and to progress their education.

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Communications team on a part-time basis to support both the delivery of National Express internal communications and the co-ordination of the work of the Foundation. This new role as Communications and Community Engagement Executive will have a number responsibilities, as part of the wider team, for:

· The creation and delivery of UK internal communications, in particular the production of the monthly Bus newsletter

· Supporting the delivery of internal communications campaigns

· Co-ordinating the work of the National Express Foundation, including administering and assessing the grants programme

· Engagement and relationship management of Foundation award recipients, including co-ordination of media and social media content

· Supporting the work of the wider team in the delivery of corporate events, communications activities and community projects.

Who we’re looking for:

  • Proven track record of working in communications – in-house or agency
  • Experience in publication design and layout, preferably using InDesign
  • Experience in managing community engagement and CSR projects
  • Understanding and experience in delivering digital communications
  • An effective team player, collaborative style, willingness to learn and challenge in collegiate style; ability to listen and share knowledge and experience.
  • Ability to manage relationships up, down and across the organisation (including dealing with senior managers).
