Reports to: Head of Fundraising
Hours: 35 hours per week (Office based)
Job Purpose / Summary
To work closely with the Head of Fundraising to deliver David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation’s portfolio of fundraising initiatives and events. This is an exciting role which will help to build fundraising income and develop our supporter base and stewardship programmes in line with our ongoing development plans for growth. The post holder will take ownership of specific areas of fundraising (including planning, management and delivery), and will also work closely with the Head of Fundraising to support our wider fundraising activities and internal administration.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. To develop and deliver DSWF’s portfolio of fundraising events including planning across the year, researching and evaluating potential event opportunities and ideas, making recommendations for different events and growth in this area.
2. To manage the planning and implementation of each fundraising event in line with agreed aims and objectives and on time/to budget. Our current events include but are not limited to the following:
- Wildlife Ball: An annual dinner evening for up to 400 people at a central London Hotel, with entertainment, fundraising and other engagement activities.
- Wildlife Artist of the Year competition and exhibition: An annual art competition and exhibition Managing all aspects including communication schedules and plans (with our Comms and Marketing Manager), sponsors and categories, call for entries and entry administration, judges / judging panel sessions, artist liaison, exhibition planning, promotion, and delivery.
- Christmas Concert: Managing our annual festive and community celebration at a venue local to our offices, including (celebrity) readers, school and performer involvement, after concert reception.
- Conservation Led Events: Managing conservation focused events as planned throughout the year (i.e. panel discussions, film screenings, conservation talks etc.)
- Supporter Led Events: Liaising directly with supporters organising their own events, maximising these opportunities, considering relevant income generation possibilities and delivering exposure at events. To attend networking events and represent and promote the work of the Foundation.
3. To work closely with the Communications and Marketing Manager to develop strong promotional and marketing plans for each event which target existing and new audiences, utilising a variety of marketing and communication methods including direct marketing, key supporter/ major donor and corporate engagement and stewardship, wider press and social media activity.
4. To maintain an up-to-date schedule of planned events and ensure regular updates are provided to all DSWF staff. To manage all ticketing systems as relevant and the processing of relevant data, logging, recording, taking payments etc. To analyse each event to report on success and improvement / change measures.
4. To work closely with the Head of Fundraising to support and help develop other key areas of fundraising including (but not limited to) the following:
- Corporate Fundraising and Engagement: Including stewarding and developing our existing partnerships and developing and growing our new pipeline for corporate partnerships. In particular a key area for this role is to help develop sponsorship opportunities in relation to our events but also generally in relation to our project-based funding portfolio.
- Regular Giving: Managing and developing our Wildlife Shepherds (regular givers) ensuring excellent stewardship and engagement and growing this income stream where possible.
- Appeals: Working with the Head of Fundraising and Fundraising & Database Executive to manage our portfolio of fundraising appeals.
5. Supporting the Fundraising & Database Executive to manage, develop and steward our schools fundraising programme, including Charity of the Year partnerships and the World Animal Day initiative.
6. To take responsibility for key areas of fundraising administration relating to the role including:
- Data management: To be responsible for excellent data management relating to your fundraising areas, adhering to relevant fundraising rules and regulations and working with the Fundraising and Database Executive to ensure that all supporter and event information is recorded accurately on our Database. Utilising targeting and segmentation techniques where possible and analysing success of activities fully post activity.
- Budget management: To manage all aspects of the financial budgets (income and expenditure) relating to each area of fundraising or event for which the role has responsibility for. To ensure that all avenues for income generation through and at our events, for example through auctions, raffles, sales and donations, are optimised.
- Marketing, Communications and promotion: To work closely with the Communications & Marketing Manager to build plans for promotion of fundraising activities and events including direct supporter communications (post / email), press, e-news, DSWF magazine content, social media etc.
- Celebrity involvement: To liaise and work with the Head of Fundraising to develop celebrity, artist and education involvement in relation to our fundraising activities and events.
- Overall: To ensure that all fundraising activities and events are carried out professionally, on time and to budget.
- GCSE English and Maths or equivalent
- A Level or equivalent level of education
- Degree level qualification
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
- Experience of managing and developing fundraising initiatives and/or fundraising events.
- Experience of working with different stakeholders to fundraising including for example corporate partners, individual fundraisers, event attendees and volunteers.
- Experience of managing fundraising income and expenditure budgets.
- Experience of using and updating Raisers Edge (or other charity database software) including benefits of segmentation and targeting.
- A good understanding of excellent supporter stewardship, techniques and management.
- Start-to-finish project management experience, excellent administration and planning skills.
- Experience of managing budgets (income and expenditure).
- Excellent communication skills, both verbally in writing, to be assertive, tactful and persuasive.
- Good IT skills and excellent knowledge and experience of MS Word and Excel, iPhoto and database entry/reporting experience.
- Good networking skills to be able to identify opportunities to meet relevant people and engage them in the work of the Foundation.
- Excellent ability to build, nurture and develop strong professional relationships.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Able to work to deadlines whilst maintaining a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- An appreciation of classical and contemporary art including paintings and sculpture.
- Experience of setting, negotiating and agreeing contractual terms within a relevant setting.
- Experience of sales and marketing.
- Experience of working within the art sector and artist community.
