deafPLUS is a charity which supports integration and equality between D/deaf and hearing people in all areas of life. We provide services such as advocacy, employment, equipment, information and advice across 7 centres around the UK, as well as a national adviceline service.  

We are now seeking to appoint to the exciting role of Independent Living Coordinator within our Personal Assistant service, which we call Youchoose.

This role focuses on the delivery of deafPLUS’ direct payments support service. This is a scheme which enables people to receive funds from the council to pay for their personal care and support, for which they would have been assessed and awarded funds to meet these needs. Youchoose providing support for individuals with personal direct payments and enable them to manage their choices and decisions for services they require and want.   

The independent living coordinator role will be responsible for the following tasks, line-managing Youchoose personal assistants, account management, delivering support, information, and advice This role is providing support to empower people with a sensory disability to access and manage their personal direct payments as independently as possible.

The post-holder will work as part of a team to promote, extend and develop the scheme to enable more people to have personal budgets and self-direct their support.

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the health and social care sector, particularly in relation to individualised budgets. Essential skills required for this post are good communication, excellent literacy, numeracy, IT and presentation skills.

Knowledge of the direct payments scheme will be an advantage, although full training will be provided.
