Job description

The Dean Heritage Centre is an accredited local Museum and heritage attraction in the Forest of Dean. It houses a collection of local stories and artefacts from the area with a view to displaying them to the public and organising educational opportunities.

We are looking for a Centre Director to oversee the current and future strategy of the museum as attractions like ours are changing. The Director will oversee the current strategy, recommend improvements, ensure the Centre is on track, take responsibility for generating income from grant funds as well as maximising our admissions income with events. The Director will need to report to and work with the trustee board, as well as the staff and volunteers.

The Centre director will need to be experienced in the following:

  • Running a heritage attraction or charity
  • Obtaining grants and applying for funding
  • Managing staff and volunteers
  • Organising events
  • Financial reporting and forecasting
  • Working with a trustee board
  • Communicating with key people inside and outside the organisation
  • Fundraising

The position is part time, 24 hours per week. We recommend some time is spent working from home. There will be times when weekend working is essential to provide help and cover for other staff members.
