Established in 2009, Dementia Adventure is a UK nature-based health charity that is changing the way people think about dementia. We have a vision where people live well with dementia, have contact and connection with nature and enjoy a sense of adventure.  We provide a range of unique services; supported dementia holidays and outings, free training for people supporting somebody with dementia and we have experienced trainers delivering a range of dementia training to others.

We are seeking a Financial Accountant to join our small team on a part-time basis, working 15 hours per week. We are a national charity but are based in Essex so we are happy for you to work with us in the office or from home.

You will be responsible for analysing and managing the growing income and expenditure at Dementia Adventure, ensuring we are financially sustainable and that we have robust, effective and efficient systems and financial practices in place, which meet our needs and the requirements of regulators, customers, donors and funders and are in support of Dementia Adventure’s charitable mission and objectives.

We are interested in finding the right person for our team and in particular are seeking the following skills and experience:

  • An understanding of charitable organisations and the regulations and law associated with charity finance

  • Knowledge of VAT legislation with regard to the provision of holidays and the implications of business/non-business income would be useful

  • Strong practical experience in financial reporting, forecasting, cash flow management, budgeting and controls

  • Excellent maths and computer skills, particularly with Excel and Xero accounting software

  • Analytical and logical problem-solving skills 

  • A ‘solutions-focused’ approach

  • A good understanding of business and charity accounts

  • 2-3 years’ experience in a similar role for an organisation of similar or larger size and turnover
