Media and Communications Officer

Do you have a keen eye for a story and a strong news sense? Do you want to work for a dynamic charity whose work at the centre of the local community transforms lives and impacts positive change?

We are seeking a creative and skilled Media and Communications Officer who can support the Diocese of Portsmouth’s ambitious communications and media plan, with a focus on telling the great stories of our volunteers and building a positive culture across our communities.

You will be joining a busy and forward-thinking Communications and Engagement team, looking to increase the Diocese of Portsmouth’s visibility through the media and other communications channels. You will seek out, develop and disseminate stories to engage new and existing audiences, supporting the organisation’s new media relations strategy, as well as helping the Fundraising team to deliver communications strategies to promote a number of priority projects, including the CARITAS Refugee programme and our environmental strategy.

A talented storyteller, with proven copywriting skills and knowledge of traditional, digital and social media channels and platforms, you’ll have an ability to spot a strong story and tell it powerfully. You’ll have excellent communications skills and strong ability to build relationships with colleagues across an organisation to produce public-facing media and communications content.

The successful candidate will be:

  • Educated to degree level;
  • Experienced in writing, marketing, and public relations via various channels;
  • Sympathetic to the mission and values of the Diocese of Portsmouth;
  • An experienced communicator with a broad range of people, who can write in a variety of styles (depending on the audience).
  • Knowledgeable about marketing and communications activities including digital platforms.

Appointment Type:

 

Full time, 35 hours per week (A request for part time hours would be considered).

Working Pattern:

Monday - Friday 09.00 – 17.00 though some evening and weekend work will be required (We will consider requests for flexible working on appointment).

Location:

St Edmund’s House, Bishop Crispian Way, Portsmouth PO1 3HQ

Salary:

£25,000 - £30,000 per annum depending on skills and experience.
