About Our Client

The Director of Finance is responsible for the financial management of St George's Weybridge, a £30m business with over 500 staff. The post holder will fulfil a wide range of responsibilities and roles in connection with the financial strategy, accounting and general financial management of the School. The post is the most senior finance professional on the staff and reports directly to the Bursar, who is effectively the CFO/COO. As such, the Director of Finance has frequent direct contact with Governors and the Heads and attends the Governors' Finance and Risk Committee meetings.

The Director of Finance is a member of the Business Senior Management Team and leads a team of 8 staff, comprising the Management Accountant, Payroll and People Accountant, Fees Controller, Interim Project Accountant, Purchase Ledger Assistant and two Finance Assistants. A new role of Financial Accountant has been established and the successful candidate will have the opportunity to influence this role and appointment.

Job Description

• Formulate the financial strategy of the School alongside Governors and the Executive Leadership Team (consisting of the two Heads and the Bursar).
• Attend meetings of the Finance and Risk Committee of the Board of Governors, preparing financial reports and papers and leading on financial items tabled for discussion or decision.
• Attend and contribute to ad-hoc Governor meetings and discussions as required.
• Alongside the Bursar and the Heads, implement the School's strategic financial plans.
• Work closely with ELT to formulate operational spending plans and priorities.
• Work closely with the Director of HR on people strategies.
• Exhibit the behaviours and standards befitting a senior leader of St George's Weybridge, demonstrating and promoting the School's ethos and values.
• Lead and manage the staff in the Finance Department.
• Bring financial risks and opportunities to the attention of the Bursar and Governors.

• Control of the treasury management function in order to ensure the most efficient and secure deployment of cash.
• Ensuring compliance with external regulators, including HMRC, the Charity Commission and Companies House.
• Being responsible for accurate and timely tax returns and tax reclaims, with professional advice where necessary, preparing recommendations for mitigating potential VAT and any other tax liabilities.

The Successful Applicant

• Formal Accounting qualification and experience of working in the commercial, educational or charity sectors.
• Experience of compliance with legislation and regulations relevant to the position

The organisation Working with a very well-established charitable foundation, the organisation comprises of three independent schools and two state-funded academies.

They are the holding company which owns the school land and buildings and manages the endowments valued at c.£50m. The Foundation Office delivers a "head office" type finance function for the Group and a range of other services to the schools, including governance and HR.

Your role The Group Finance Manager will work within a small team and an extended team of around 15-20 finance staff in the schools. The post reports to the Group Finance Director and the finance function are assisted by a part-time Finance Officer. The core part of the role is the production of the
annual report. You will also manage the group cash treasury system, managing 20+ bank accounts.

You will manage significant investments and investment property. You will also maintain an accurate cash flow forecast for the group. The annual audit is also a major part of the work, and you will be expected to play a key part in the management of the audit and preparation of the financial information for both the Foundation, and its trading subsidiaries and charitable trusts. There are significant capital projects in the pipeline which will also require support.
What you will need to succeed

• Recent experience of group consolidation and reconciliation of intercompany balances

We specialise in horticulture, retail and general employability. Our students undertake individualised learning programmes and supported internships that lead to vocational qualifications and achieving other aims. We support the wellbeing of our young people through providing mentoring, counselling, enrichment and other one-to-one support.

Our charity has two learning centres in Highgate and Hornsey. We also operate a gardening business and two charity shops, providing income for our charity, work experience placements for our students and employment for 14 young people. The Role

This is an exciting time to join the Harington, as we have recently appointed a new Principal/CEO. We want to ensure that the Harington is able to fulfil and secure its mission to benefit our young people, both now and into the future.

In the next year we will consolidate what we do well and seek to strengthen the areas where we could do better. The Interim COO will work with all stakeholders and closely with the Principal/CEO to review, plan and implement the necessary changes. The Financial Controller will report into the Bursar and be responsible for for the whole of the School’s day-to-day accounting function to ensure effective procedures and robust controls are in place for all aspects of the function.

The organisation:

The role:

• Assist the Bursar to seek commercial income opportunities and monitor and advise on school investments through liaison with external investment managers.
• Deputise for the Bursar in all finance matters and at governor committees, or at SLT meetings when requested by the Head. 
• Support the Bursar’s financial and audit responsibility.
• Check Income & Expenditure (I&E) variances and explain and compare findings to previous year, to budgets and to forecasts.
• Prepare weekly cashflow forecast and monthly management accounts.
• Compile and analyse the annual school budget, setting and monitoring. 
• Prepare initial input data for new arrivals, departing staff, music teachers and additional overtime payments. 
• Modernise the finance IT package and update the finance manual.
• Oversee and administer school fee collection, process supplier payments and invoices.
• Prepare and present the annual accounts for the annual statutory audit and liaise with the auditors and implement audit findings. 

The successful candidate will be:

• A fully qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA) or at Finalist level.
• Experienced in budgeting, forecasting and producing management accounts.

We are looking for an experienced fundraiser, to lead on Neuroscience related fundraising for the Departments of Psychiatry and Clinical Neurosciences as part of the friendly team working across the Medical Sciences Division at the University of Oxford.

The Medical Sciences Division at Oxford has been ranked number one in the world for the last twelve years in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings for clinical, pre-clinical and health sciences. Recent accomplishments of the Medical Sciences Division include its research into the COVID-19 pandemic, most notably through the delivery of the Oxford–AstraZeneca vaccine, which is estimated to have saved over 6 million lives.

About the role:

This fundraiser will work closely with the Heads of Departments and academics in the Departments of Psychiatry and Clinical Neurosciences. The post will focus primarily on funding for research, academic posts, scholarships and infrastructure related to Neuroscience which includes Mental Health and neurological disease (e.g. Motor Neurone Disease, Dementia, Parkinson’s, Stroke and Epilepsy). The fundraiser will work on special projects including the possible major capital redevelopment of the Warneford site. While an interest in medical research and neuroscience is essential, you do not need to be a sciences graduate, just an enthusiast for knowledge.

You are an experienced development professional with a strong track record of securing major gifts, a confident approach and the ability to think creatively. You will lead on major gift fundraising (£100k-£1m+) working with a range of donors (corporates, trusts and individuals).
