Job description

Communities Support Officer – Part Time
Borehamwood, Hertfordshire (with home working options)

Are you an organised administrator with experience of using social media and other communications tools? If so, this is an exciting opportunity to facilitate the delivery of life-changing support services.

About Us

Ehlers-Danlos Support (EDS) UK provides information, support and guidance to those living with EDS and HSD, a group of connective tissue disorders which affect most of the body and can be extremely challenging to live with.

We work closely with medical and healthcare professionals to increase the understanding of EDS and HSD in UK medical practice, reduce the time to diagnosis and improve knowledge of this condition through research.

Thanks to funding from The National Lottery Community Fund, we have a well-established programme of peer-to-peer support running in our community across the UK.

We’re currently looking for a part-time Communities Support Officer to join us on a fixed-term contract until August 2022.

The Benefits

- Salary of £18,726 pro rata (£11,236 per annum)
- Home working options
- Negotiable start and finish times
- Contributory pension scheme

This is a superb opportunity to gain experience in the charitable sector while supporting a service that unites and connects people living with EDS and HSD.

We recognise that people are our greatest asset and we support paid staff and volunteers with high-quality training and development and thoughtful line management.

We pride ourselves on being bold, well-informed and focused and we use our personality to inspire change and benefit all those touched by EDS and HSD. We believe that nobody should be left to fight on their own. If you think you could make a difference as part of our team, we’d love to hear from you.

The Role

As a Communities Support Officer, you’ll carry out a range of administrative tasks to support the successful delivery of our peer-to-peer support programme.

Specifically, you’ll support our Senior Communities Manager and Communities Manager, as well as our network of volunteer Area Co-ordinators, who are vital to the delivery of the programme.

Some of your duties will include:

- Responding to volunteer queries via email, telephone and social media
- Helping to plan community activities and events
- Monitoring new memberships on our closed Facebook groups
- Promoting our support groups through our website, Mailchimp, Facebook and other social media platforms
- Collecting project monitoring data

About You

To join us as a Communities Support Officer, you will need:

- Previous experience of providing administrative support to a team
- Experience of effectively using a range of communication tools, including social media, to provide support and information
- A track record of working to targets or goals and tracking progress towards these
- Excellent IT skills
- Great organisation and planning abilities

Ideally, you’ll also have experience of providing administrative support to volunteers, either in the charity or public sector.

Other organisations may call this role Team Administrator, Administrator, Community Administrator, Project Assistant, Project Administrator, Programme Administrator, or Programme Assistant.

This is a part-time role, working 21 hours per week, Monday – Friday.

The closing date for applications is the 14th August 2020.
