Job description

Duration: Fixed-term contract until 31 March 2023 (extension subject to funding)

Do you have the experience, passion and skills needed to lead the start-up of the new UK Humanitarian Innovation Hub (the Hub)? Are you a thought leader, experienced in driving innovation who is able to identify and develop new and improved ways of tackling humanitarian challenges? We’re seeking an individual to inspire and convene expertise and knowledge from across the UK, with excellent communication and people management skills, along with an outstanding ability to plan and organise for early results.

We are looking to recruit a highly effective Director to establish the UK Humanitarian Innovation Hub as a centre of excellence in humanitarian innovation. You will provide strategic direction and be responsible for managing a highly dedicated team, how the hub is organised and functions. You will play the leading role in establishing the profile and reputation of the Hub, generating a high level of engagement from humanitarian and innovation actors in the UK.

The UK Humanitarian Innovation Hub is hosted by Elrha, a global humanitarian organisation, and the UK’s leading independent supporter of humanitarian innovation and research. The Hub will be supported by an Expert Advisory Group who will provide strategic guidance and technical advice – bringing together experts in science, technology, and innovation, from government, universities, the private sector, and NGOs. The Hub will be fully funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO/UKAID).

If you are passionate about finding better ways to support vulnerable populations affected by crises, if you want to create positive change in the humanitarian sector and you strongly believe you can lead and shape this important initiative, then join us and we’ll give you every opportunity to succeed.

We are committed to the safeguarding and protection of vulnerable people in our work. This post is subject to a range of vetting checks including a criminal records disclosure.

We recognise the positive value of diversity and promote equality, and are committed to improving employment opportunities for minority groups. We welcome and encourage applications from people of all backgrounds, particularly from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) and disabled candidates, as BAME and people with disabilities are currently under-represented throughout our work. We also welcome applications from LGB and Trans, and non-binary candidates.
