Job description

Responsible for delivering the project's Activity Plan, you will be creating and directly managing a series of audience development projects. The overall intention is attracting new audiences and delivering the objectives of this exciting and comprehensive National Lottery Heritage Fund project to enhance and restore the historic landscape of Marble Hill Park and improve visitor numbers and engagement to Marble Hill House, on time and to budget. The post will involve some evening and weekend work.

Above all, you will be a person that likes working with people of all ages and from all backgrounds. You will be experienced in access or outreach-based work, including community liaison, youth work or working in the voluntary sector and have a minimum of two years' experience managing mid to large-scale projects, involving at least one other partner organisation, including managing freelancers and managing a budget. You will be highly collaborative and will have experience designing and delivering a range of creative audience development schemes, with the ability to build and maintain strong working relationships.

Reporting to the Property Manager, the post holder will be responsible for creating, developing and overseeing all activities across Marble Hill House and Park with the overall intention of attracting new audiences and delivering the Marble Hill Activity Plan objectives on time and to budget. Key areas of responsibility will include:

  1. To deliver the current Activity Plan submitted with the Round 2 Parks for People Application

  2. To project manage and deliver a series of audience development projects both at, and in the vicinity of Marble Hill which will engage new audiences in the heritage and municipal benefits of Marble Hill, focusing primarily (but not exclusively) on the priority outputs outlined in the Activity Plan.

  3. To ensure that  partners deliver the outputs attributed to them in the Activity Plan to an appropriate quality and standard and to act as the primary English Heritage representative in all discussions and contractual negotiations with groups relating to the Marble Hill project:

  4. To line-manage any artists, freelancers and external contractors employed for audience development projects as outlined in the Activity Plan.

  5. To act as EH’s primary contact for National Lottery Heritage Fund in relation to the development of the Activity Plan. To be responsible for the collation, writing and submission of all National Lottery Heritage Fund Grant Monitoring Reports and Drawdown requests, with input from the Project Manager and Finance Manager.

  6. To liaise with English Heritage departmental staff in Historic Properties, Interpretation, Marketing, Volunteering and Events to develop and implement coordinated projects for Marble Hill.

  7. To support the Site Manager at Marble Hill in the development and implementation of a wide and flexible programme of training opportunities for volunteers, apprentices, intern and staff managing volunteers in order to equip them with the skills to effectively meet the needs of the Marble Hill project.Working closely with training providers, key partner organisations and internal experts to deliver the training.

  8. To control expenditure budgets and ensure compliance with all English Heritage finance and procurement procedures.

  9. To run audience development projects in such a way that they provide clear outputs to inform and develop all aspects of the Marble Hill project and the quality of the Marble Hill offer to visitors.

  10. To create a network of external partners in order to increase English Heritage’s capacity for audience development.

  11. To assist in broadening the range and nature of events held at Marble Hill, in particular, with the intention of attracting new audiences to the site. These could be delivered in-house (in conjunction with the Events Delivery Manager South Territory), or with third party production companies.

  12. To co-ordinate and update information on projects happening at Marble Hill for press, publicity and marketing purposes.

  13. To work with local organisations to encourage them to participate in / volunteer at Marble Hill with a view to them becoming more heavily involved in the site on a longer term basis.

  14. To monitor, document and evaluate all projects, and produce written reports on completion of projects.

  15. To ensure, during the final year of the project that effective systems are established in order to ensure that all activities carried out during the project continue to be delivered after the life of the project either by project partners or by EH in either their originally conceived, or a reduced form. This is necessary in order to ensure a lasting legacy for the Marble Hill project.
