Blue Ventures is a marine conservation organization that puts people first. We support coastal fishers in remote and rural communities to rebuild fisheries, restore ocean life and build lasting pathways to prosperity. Our work began two decades ago in Madagascar’s remote coastal communities and is growing globally.
Across a dozen countries, we’re partnering with traditional fishers and community organizations to design, scale, strengthen, and sustain fisheries management and conservation at the community level. We bring partners together in networks to advocate for reform, and share tools and best practices to support fishing communities across the globe.
Summary job description
We are currently recruiting a Project Manager - Advocacy to support the delivery of our new advocacy projects in West Africa. The projects of about $2 million over 3 years will be focused on supporting regional civil society organisations to advocate for the rights of small-scale fishers against industrial destructive fishing and promoting transparent and sustainable fisheries governance.
Reporting to the West Africa (WA) Regional Director with a dotted line to the Head of Programme Management, the Project Manager will be supported by the wider Blue Ventures team, which will provide technical and strategic support and guidance. This is a full time role based in Blue Ventures’ Senegalese office, with regular travel in the West Africa region to work closely with partners, field teams, and communities (up to 20% travels).
The successful candidate will be a motivated, proactive, and highly organised individual, with an excellent knowledge of project implementation and ideally, strong knowledge of partnerships and advocacy. You will demonstrate a proven track record of project implementation, as well as good spoken and written communication. Ideally, you will have experience of community-based conservation and development initiatives in the region.
We are looking for an individual who is open to new ideas and embraces innovation, who can demonstrate experience of building effective working partnerships for conservation and/or development. Responsibilities

Creating compelling written content about plant-based food; precision fermentation; cultivated meat, dairy and fish; and the plant-based food industry - across ProVeg B2C and B2B media channels (articles, blog posts, social media, video, info material, website etc.) as well as for third party platforms.

Devising themes and ideas for content creation including building on the wide variety of ProVeg programmes across 12 countries, using effective storytelling and impact articles.

Working with colleagues on graphic and video content.

Maximizing our reach by optimizing content according to current SEO best practice.

Assuring quality control in close cooperation with the International Senior Digital Communications Manager, as well as ProVeg Editor-in-Chief and our research department.

Supporting PR function as back-up writer.

Repurposing content for different mediums, including social media and video.

Qualifications
Required:

Relevant degree in communications, journalism, PR, marketing, English studies or other relevant fields.

At least three years professional experience (in an agency or larger organization) in writing online copy such as blog articles and social media posts.

Experience in SEO writing/editing.

Experience with social media posting and scheduling tools.

Strong understanding of target groups and strong communication skills, with a strong feeling for the language.

Creative mind, with the ability to conceive interesting ideas for new content.

Editorial Assistant role
This is a permanent, part-time role for an Editorial Assistant, working remotely (UK). The role will provide the successful candidate with an opportunity to experience work on a busy environmental online news platform. You will work alongside our highly experienced editor in a fast-paced environment. In-house training will be provided on all aspects of the role. You will be part of the wider editorial and events team at The Resurgence Trust, with opportunities to become involved in other aspects of the charity’s work. There is the option to work from The Resurgence Trust offices in Hartland, north Devon if preferred. Holiday entitlement, 6 weeks (15 days)
What you’ll do
- Ensure that email is processed and responded to in a timely manner
- Make and keep appointments with stakeholders, including attending internal and external meetings on behalf of the editorial team
- Monitor selected media and social media outlets and streams, including PA Explore
- Format documents
- Support the work of ensuring that the website and social media channels are regularly updated with appropriate content
- Support the administrative aspects of the various projects and initiatives of The Ecologist online
- Supporting external activities such as representing The Ecologist at events.

Operations Assistant, South Georgia Museum
South Georgia Heritage Trust operates the South Georgia Museum on behalf of the Government of South Georgia. The museum is located in the abandoned whaling station of Grytviken, on the remote sub-Antarctic island of South Georgia. The museum is visited each austral summer by over 12,000 visitors that arrive on cruise ships, research vessels and yachts.
SGHT is seeking a practical and enthusiastic Operations Assistant to join the small team which will spend 5 to 6 months (October – April) on South Georgia. The Operations Assistant will be involved in opening the museum, operating the SGHT shop and undertaking fundraising and other projects. The Operations Assistant will report to the SGHT Director SG.
Payment is £1200 per month worked, and all food and accommodation is provided. For tax purposes the Operations Assistant is self-employed, and it is each person’s responsibility to report their activity to the appropriate tax authority. Travel to and from South Georgia is arranged by, and covered by, South Georgia Heritage Trust. Working hours are flexible and are dictated by the cruise ship schedule. This can sometimes mean working long, unsociable hours but, where possible, the team will take two days off per week. Successful candidates will live in shared accommodation in a small cottage next door to the museum and take part in a cooking and cleaning rota with other museum staff.
Candidates must be over the age of 18, have the right to work in the UK and be UK based. They must also pass a British Antarctic Survey Medical Unit medical if offered the role. Due to the remote location, and limited facilities available, employment is conditional on passing this medical assessment.
Duties of this role include:
Front of House:
· Opening and closing the museum for visiting ships.
· Welcoming visitors to the museum and responding to questions about the museum, South Georgia and SGHT.
· Assisting with guided tours of Grytviken Whaling Station.
Retail:
· Serving customers in the shop during ship visits.
· Stock management, including barcoding new stock, re-stocking during and after ship visits, and assisting with stock inventories.
· Assisting with merchandising of shop stock, including refreshing displays throughout the season.
Fundraising:
· Delivering fundraising presentations on board visiting cruise ships.
· Processing donations and associated paperwork.
· Engaging with guests about the work of SGHT and encouraging them to support the charity.
Maintenance:
· Undertaking waste management, including sorting and packing of waste.
· Completing basic maintenance tasks, such as sanding and painting, around the museum.
· Cleaning the museum and toilets between ship visits.
· Taking part in the annual deep clean of the museum and church.
Other:
· Supporting the SGHT Director SG with office administration as required.
· Taking part in a cooking and cleaning rota within shared museum accommodation.
