Devon Wildlife Trust is looking for a Fundraising Manager to lead our Grants & Major Giving team, which plays a vital role in helping the organisation to secure the resources it needs to achieve more for nature’s recovery in Devon.
Devon Wildlife Trust (DWT) is Devon’s leading wildlife conservation charity, with over 36,000 members, 350 regular volunteers, 100 staff and 63 nature reserves. We are one of the larger locally based organisations that collectively make up The Wildlife Trusts. DWT has pioneered the reintroduction of beavers in England and the restoration of internationally rare habitats like Culm Grassland.
The Trust has a fantastic track record of high quality fundraising activity that is rooted in respect for our supporters, in strong partnerships, and in our desire to build a community of nature champions. We are looking for an experienced fundraiser who can manage an effective team to oversee income generation from grants, legacies, major donors and corporate supporters. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of fundraising success and income growth in one or more relevant fundraising disciplines, along with experience of shaping and coordinating fundraising plans and/or significant funding applications. The successful candidate will not have to be a conservation expert, so long as they have the right skills, relevant experience from any sector and can communicate with passion, enthusiasm and credibility about our work.

About the Role:
As the Senior Corporate Partnership & Philanthropy Manager and part of the senior leadership team, you'll spearhead the growth of corporate and business philanthropic support, cultivate strategic partnerships, and nurture major donors aligned with the Earth Trust mission of championing natural green spaces for people and nature to thrive together. Your leadership will be pivotal in motivating the fundraising team, developing successful partnerships, and mobilising greater involvement across Earth Trust's funding pipeline to accelerate their impact.
Role Highlights include:
- Develop, execute, and lead a strategic corporate partnerships strategy to significantly enhance sustainable corporate support over the next three years.
- Proactively identify, cultivate, and steward corporate relationships to secure increased funding and impactful cause-related partnerships aligned with organisational priorities.
- Build a strong pipeline and secure multi-year 5-6 figure corporate gifts, sponsorship agreements, CSR partnerships, and employee engagement opportunities by crafting compelling proposals and presentations.
- Provide inspiring stewardship to corporate partners, including impact reporting, partner events, and excellent account management to maintain productive long-term relationships.
- Lead, inspire, and collaborate with your team across the full range of Earth Trust's fundraising models, working closely with the senior leadership team to maximise fundraising efforts.
About You
You will be a seasoned fundraiser with a knack for cultivating valuable partnerships. You will have a wealth of expertise in corporate partnerships and major donor cultivation. In addition, you will be a natural communicator with a proven track record of securing 5-6 figure incomes. You will thrive in managing relationships and be adept at fostering strong connections that drive impactful results. As an advocate for the Earth Trust mission, you'll work collaboratively with your team and senior management to maximise opportunities. As our Key Relationships Coordinator, you’ll be responsible for maintaining and refining administrative systems for the Key Relationships fundraising team. It’s a fast-paced role that involves managing your own time well and communicating effectively with all members of a busy and dynamic team.
Processing donations, you’ll monitor various databases and sources for new donors and gifts, work with relevant fundraisers on communications and handle Key Relationships incoming post. You’ll also coordinate with the Data, Insight, IT and Finance teams and manage further development of our supporter database – leading on data checking, creating and exporting datasets for reporting, and producing accurate and timely data selections to support communications and fundraising objectives.
Location: Islington, London. Our hybrid working model enables us to enjoy the benefits of both office based and remote working. We ask that staff work from the office in Islington 40% of their time, with 20% required as a minimum. The Senior Grants Officer (Business Development) will join ClientEarth’s thriving and growing Business Development team. A key role for securing new grant income, the postholder will play a crucial part in the research and cultivation of potential new funder relationships, and will develop and submit winning funding proposals to trusts, foundations and institutional donors.
They will manage their own portfolio of prospective funders, and undertake detailed prospect research into the foundation donor market whilst liaising with ClientEarth’s global teams across different programme areas and geographies. Working closely with the Business Development Manager, they will identify potential alignment with ClientEarth’s strategic priorities and inform decision-making in relation to funding opportunities.
Meet your Manager
In this role, you will be managed by Alex Wright. A fundraiser for over 12 years, Alex previously worked for a range of national music charities and is a trustee of two arts education charities. As part of the Business Development Team at ClientEarth, he manages the cultivation of new relationships with trusts and foundations in the US and securing new grant income. Alex joined ClientEarth in 2024 and is based in our London office.
Main Duties
- Prospect research and pipeline development - Proactively undertake research to identify, qualify and prioritise new funding prospects/ opportunities to support the build of a pipeline of high quality leads to guide future fundraising efforts;
- Business Development and Income generation - Draft clear and compelling written fundraising materials including cases for support, funding proposals, and concept notes;
- Systems and processes - Provide timely and accurate information to the Business Development Manager on funding opportunities in their portfolio and progress with workplan, as requested, to enable accurate monitoring and reporting to the Head of Business Development;
- Understanding of ClientEarth’s programmes and funding needs
Role requirements
- Fluent (CEFR level C2) in English
- Experience of working in a fundraising or business development role for a charity, NGO, private or public entity;
- Experience of drafting compelling and successful proposals for trusts, foundations and statutory institutions and securing multi-year grants, ideally at the six-figure level and above;
- Experience of supporting the relationship development process with a new donor, from prospect research through to ask.
- Strong project management skills to lead the proposal development process to meet funder deadlines, including stakeholder management;
- Strong alignment with ClientEarth’s values and commitment to our vision, and mission and equity, diversity and inclusion strategy objectives.
