We’re looking for a new Community Rail Support Officer based in southern England and the Midlands, to support our network of community rail partnerships (CRPs) and station adoption groups.
About us
Community Rail Network is a not-for-profit organisation, working across Britain, supporting a growing ‘community rail’ movement, which helps communities get the most from their railways, promotes sustainable and inclusive travel, coordinates volunteering and place-making, and brings people together.
Community rail is made up of 75 community-based partnership organisations, and around 1,200 station friends volunteer groups and other community-led initiatives around Britain. Their activities range from creative projects for young people, to advising train operators on service improvements, to building travel confidence with families and disabled people, to biodiversity projects at stations, to promoting greener travel and tourism by rail.
Our enthusiastic team of 22 works mainly from home in different locations, but we come together regularly in person and online. We work collaboratively to advise our members, provide training, events and resources, run campaigns, and champion community rail and its insights via decision-makers and the media. We believe in developing our team and supporting everyone to reach their potential while having a good work-life balance.
About this role
The purpose of this role is to provide support and advice to community rail partnerships and groups in the South of England and Midlands, on working effectively and delivering maximum benefit to their communities and railways.
You’ll be comfortable engaging and advising local groups and communities to extend existing and set up new initiatives, and to reach wider audiences with an evidence-led, place-based approach. As well as supporting local groups, you’ll work closely with the rail industry, and wider third and public sector partners to ensure collaboration and shared success.
Main responsibilities
- Provide direct support and advice to CRPs and their officers, and other community rail groups in the region. This includes responding to queries and requests, passing on specialist queries to other members of the team, and providing proactive support through our accreditation review process and as set out in our plans;
- Support the development of skills, confidence and effectiveness across the network of CRPs and station groups, helping them to increase their positive social, environmental and economic impact, including through referral to our training, events and resources;
- Support the development of emerging community rail partnerships, station friend groups and community-led stations and railway-related projects in the region;
- Helping our members to work effectively with rail, transport, local government and community partners, supporting effective relationship building and showing positive leadership and insights on community rail within the region;
- Work with the Support Manager on delivery and monitoring of our grant schemes, and support CRPs and groups in the region to apply, deliver successfully and report back on funded work;
- Gather and share examples, feedback and insights from our members across the region, to facilitate best practice sharing and confidence across community rail and to feed into our communications, resources, events and public affairs work;
- As a member of the Community Rail Network team, participate and contribute to our wider work as relevant, such as Community Rail Week, our annual conference and Awards.
Skills, competencies and experience
- Skills in in supporting community engagement projects; an understanding of and confidence in using community engagement, local communications, project planning and evaluation techniques
- Interpersonal skills and the ability to work confidently with stakeholders at all levels and facilitate positive discussion; articulate and assertive
- Excellent writing and presentational skills
- Awareness of sustainable transport and social inclusion, and an appreciation of the importance of rail, sustainable travel and mobility to communities

Other information
- This post is home-based, but with regular travel (including overnight stays) within the south of England and Midlands, and nationally for team meetings
- The Community Rail Support Officer reports to the Support Manager within the Support and Development team
- Hours are 37 hours per week. A degree of flexibility and out-of-hours working (evenings and weekends) will be required, together with some travel and overnight absences

The Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) is leading the international clean energy transition as the world seeks to stay within 1.5c global warming target. Our mission is to ensure that wind power establishes itself as the answer to today’s energy challenges, providing substantial environmental and economic benefits. We have innovative programmes and collaborations promoting sustainable offshore wind development, mentoring women working in wind industry, education and energy access. We have grown our revenue five times in as many years and have bold growth plans over the next decade as we seek the urgent scale up of wind and clean energy in new and existing markets. GWEC growth plans are enabled by donor grant funded projects or other collaborations, requiring careful financial management to ensure timely delivery, tight budget management and donor confidence.
This is an exciting new position for a highly motivated, organised, analytical and collaborative Financial professional with project and grant experience, with a commitment to improve systems and processes, develop a healthy compliance culture and to make a real difference in a growing organisation.
Overall the role will provide project support and technical finance expertise to our global grant funded projects and advice on donor-funded or other restricted projects, to ensure accuracy of all finance transactions related to the project and to manage all financial aspects of projects from budget preparation to project closure. This will include projects directly managed by GWEC, and projects managed by hosted collaborations.

1. Complete & accurate project budgets & support financial aspects of funding bids
2. Grant financial set up, compliance oversight and close out, including audit liaison

Essentia Person Criteria:

Projects Manager role description
The role involves identifying project and research opportunities; developing winning bids; project management and project delivery. Examples of recent projects include developing a water scarcity index for BSi and creating an evaluation framework for water saving campaigns. You will report to the Head of Policy and Strategy and be part of a small but growing sub-team winning and delivering water efficiency research projects. You will be a key part of our middle management and will be expected to operate at both strategic and delivery level.

We’re seeking a Monitoring and Rights Project Coordinator to oversee funded projects within our Monitoring & Rights team in Central and East Africa.
This role involves supporting the Monitoring and Rights Senior Coordinator in maintaining consistent communication with ForestLink partners and users in the region.
The post holder will also lead on the implementation of the ForestLink strategy throughout these territories.

Donor stewardship (25% of work)
- Relationship-building with individual and corporate donors to:
- GRP’s portfolio of climate charities (portfolio funding)
- GRP’s operating costs (core funding)
- Assistance with impact report production; coordination of report distribution
- Coordination of donor thank-you notes, newsletters, webinars, feedback solicitation, etc.
- Develop comprehensive donor stewardship journey to ensure donors fully understand their impact and develop a deeper connection to GRP
Public relations (25% of work)
- Maintenance and growth of GRP’s database of journalist contacts
- Drumbeat communications with journalists, including press releases and e-alerts
- Identification of podcast, interview, and article-writing opportunities for GRP team

Purpose of role
We are currently seeking a Project Manager in Philanthropy, whose primary objective is to assist the Senior Philanthropy Advisors (SPA) in securing essential funding to combat global climate change. The ideal candidate will possess expertise in philanthropic activities and proficiency in managing multiple high-priority tasks autonomously, which are crucial for effectively managing various project management responsibilities essential to fulfilling the objectives of the Philanthropy Team. Primary responsibilities

Donor deliverables (50%)
· Project manage donor deliverables and other donor-related work streams as defined by strategies set by SPAs, including but not limited to developing and managing or leading work plans, timelines, and tracking status of all the moving parts to meet internal and external deadlines.
· Negotiate project timelines and gather input from colleagues to design project plans.
· Serve as a thought partner to SPAs on donor strategies.

Special projects that scale our donor work and advance team goals (30%)
· Contribute to special projects as assigned including but not limited to project management support for Ambassadors, select events, proactive products, and priority big bets; building and maintaining the Philanthropy Team strategic playbook and cascading learnings in partnership with the Deputy Managing Director, and supporting pipeline development in key regions.
