About the job

We are the Equality and Human Rights Commission. We stand up for freedom, compassion and justice in changing times. We do it by promoting and upholding equality and human rights ideals and laws across England, Scotland and Wales. Our work is driven by a simple belief; if everyone gets a fair chance in life, we all thrive.

Job description

If you want to make a difference and improve the lives of everyone in the country, the Equality and Human Rights Commission needs to hear from you. The work we do affects everyone and is about making Britain fairer. Whether that’s fighting for better rights for disabled people, progress on race or gender equality, or ending discrimination at work, we are the leading voice that makes change happen.

We are now looking for exceptional people to join our Policy, Compliance, and Strategy teams who share our values of fairness, dignity and respect.

We are currently recruiting for two permanent Policy roles, based in Manchester, Glasgow or Cardiff. Additionally, we are recruiting for a fixed-term Policy role, which can be based in Manchester, Glasgow, Cardiff or London. Please note however, that we cannot offer a permanent position in our London office. Candidates who successfully pass this recruitment will be placed, in merit order, on a reserve list for 12 months for vacancies that arise during this period across our Policy, Compliance and Strategy teams.

Senior Associates deliver key projects and help develop our strategies, policy positions and approach to influencing the way employers and service providers operate.

Successful candidates will have an understanding of equality and/or human rights legislation and policy, an ability to analyse and evaluate information and use it to develop positions and recommendations, excellent strategic thinking skills, experience in delivering projects in relevant contexts, and an awareness of the political and wider environment in which the Commission operates.

Please see attached documents for details of each team - available on the civil service jobs advert.

In return, we can offer you a great place to work and a dedicated team working with you on subjects that really matter. We will support you in developing professional skills and expertise, encourage you to broaden your horizons, develop new skills, and progress your career.

We are committed to the employment and career development of disabled people. We offer a Guaranteed Interview Scheme and will make reasonable adjustments to all stages of our recruitment process where asked to do so. Should you wish to apply under the Guaranteed Interview Scheme or request a reasonable adjustment, please indicate this on your application form. Read more information about our Guaranteed Interview Scheme on our website.

The salary for this role is £37,439.86, plus £3,200 London Weighting Allowance (if London based). Those joining us from the Civil Service on a level transfer, will be offered the pay point closest to their current salary, wherever possible.

In addition we offer:

  • Flexible working patterns
  • Annual leave entitlement of 30 days plus 8 public holidays (pro-rated for part time employees)
  • Access to Civil Service Pension Scheme and Partnership Pension Schemes
  • Employee Assistance Programme
  • Season ticket loans
  • Employee benefits portal
  • Payment of professional subscriptions

£3,200 London weighting (if London-based)
