Our Policy directorate encompasses around 35 people, and the director of policy and strategy has responsibility for four direct reports and sits on our Executive Management Team (EMT), also helping to lead strategy and development across our 100-strong organisation. As director of policy and strategy, you will play a pivotal role in developing and strengthening our Policy and Strategy directorate. This will include ensuring we continue to operate in an integrated way across our Policy and Strategy, Communications, and Development and Engagement directorates to deliver the greatest impact for members and our organisation.
You will provide strategic leadership for the organisation’s policy, strategy, analysis and public affairs functions, providing high-level advice and support to the chief executive, deputy chief executive, chair and board, as well as playing a key role as part of the NHS Providers director team.

The Role
To help us fulfill our mission, we seek Grants Officers, who will oversee complex strategic grantmaking activity, triage, monitoring and compliance, and clearance of conflicts of interest, sanctions, and data privacy. They will also support with managing urgent leadership directed grants where necessary.
Key Responsibilities
As Grants Officer, you will report to the Associate Director, Grants Management and be responsible for:
- Contributing to annual planning for US-based entities, forecasting resource allocation needs throughout the year.
- Leading grant closeout procedures, overseeing the collection of overdue reports for all grants funded by US-based entities, conducting FPR, OSI, OSPC processes. Manage the completion of the Grant Closure Project, identifying obstacles to report collection and establishing standard procedures for closing grants, including those for US-based funded programmatic units.
- Coordinating with Finance, Accounting & Compliance teams for audits of Open Society's US-based entities, as well as the preparation of annual tax filings and financial statements.
- Managing departmental budget, retreat/meeting schedules, and professional development opportunities.
- Conducting pre-award/post-award due diligence to ensure grants align with US-based entities' funding requirements and foundation policies.
- Facilitating internal audits for the Grants Management department.
- Collaborating with opportunities/programs colleagues to ensure timely and efficient proposal compliance review, grant award structuring, issuance of grant letters, payments and amendments, and grant closeout reviews.
- Providing comprehensive education and training on grant award compliance, grantmaking processes, Foundation Connect, GrantSmith, and Analytics Studio within the department and to colleagues across Open Society.
- Serving as a resource for Grants Assistants and other Grants Management colleagues, fostering collaboration and knowledge-sharing.
- Assisting in Grants Management processes related to equivalency determination, expenditure responsibility, OFAC compliance, COI compliance, and data privacy.
- Ensuring data integrity in the grantmaking system and provide reporting and analysis.
- Monitoring grant payment schedules and program budgets, ensuring financial efficiency.
- Liaising with Communications, Finance, GARA, Information Technology, the Office of General Council, outside organizations, and/or affinity groups on matters of mutual interest.
- Developing, documenting, revising, and implementing Grants Management policies, procedures, documents, templates, and multimedia materials.
- Representing Grants Management in cross-departmental staff meetings, workshops, retreats, and working groups.
- Supporting internal Grants Management operations and contribute to special projects as needed.

Experience
The ideal candidate must have a University Degree (BA or Bsc) and have the following experience and competencies:
- Extensive career experience within a large and complex non-profit organization.
- Previous working experience in individual grantmaking.
- Deep understanding and vision of how grantmaking aligns with programmatic strategy complemented by effective grantmaking practices.

What we can offer you:

Hours of work: You will be contracted hours are 37.5 hours per week, with time off in lieu for any extended working wok that may be needed as part of fulfilling the duties for this role.

Introduction
BBC Media Action is the BBC’s international development organisation. We believe in media and
communication for good. We work in over 20 countries around the world reaching more than 100
million people a year – helping to save lives and improve health, protect livelihoods, challenge inequality
and build more peaceful and democratic societies.
This assignment is part of BBC Media Action’s ESARO Digital Engagement Strategy project, funded by
UNICEF. The aim of the project is to develop a Social and Behaviour Change (SBC) Regional Digital
Engagement Strategy for UNICEF related to youth-focused programmatic priorities in their Eastern and
Southern Africa Regional Office (ESARO). This Regional Digital Engagement Strategy will be developed to
be applicable across thematic areas of work, and, following the development of the draft strategy, it will
be operationalized in four selected countries in the region for a specific thematic area.
Objective
The overall aim of this assignment is to support the development of the Regional Digital Engagement
Strategy for the UNICEF ESARO region. The consultant would be responsible for bringing together the
complete draft regional strategy by engaging with BBC Media Action teams responsible for writing
different elements of the strategy and relevant UNICEF colleagues. The consultant will also be required
to conduct desk research and complete a review of relevant documentation to ensure the relevance and
applicability of the strategy to UNICEF’s practices and ways of working.
The consultant should be a specialist in digital engagement and have experience of developing SBC strategies. An understanding and experience of delivering similar work with UN organisations, in particular UNICEF, is desirable.
The specific objectives of the Regional Digital Engagement Strategy will be to contribute to:
•
an increased knowledge among UNICEF SBC and Programme teams, and their partners, of the variety of digital platforms and tools and social media channels that have been developed and deployed by UNICEF or third parties in the region;
•
an enhanced awareness among UNICEF SBC and Programme teams of successful digital engagement initiatives on the programme areas of interest and/or in terms of promoting civic engagement and youth participation;
•
an increased understanding of how UNICEF Country Offices and their partners can apply specific digital engagement approaches to an integrated intersectoral/multisectoral programming, independently or in combination with face-to-face methods, with a disaggregated analysis for reaching marginalised youth populations, including youth with disability;
•
an increased engagement with key influencers in the digital space (as per available social listening analytics) that can engage youth on specific programmatic actions;
•
an increased digital reach among youth ensuring that SBC can gather evidence-based data to measure the impact of digital initiatives towards L2E, SRH, HIV, HPV, VAC, mental health, and climate action outcomes.
Outputs
The consultant will work with other members of the BBC Media Action team to deliver the following outputs over the course of their assignment:
1)
Writing specific areas of the strategy focused on Digital Engagement Interventions (by 3rd May 2024): The consultant will conduct a review of existing documentation and use their digital engagement and SBC expertise and experience to write areas of the strategy within the Developing Digital Engagement Interventions for SBC strategy section. Review of documents will be coupled with participation in sessions with UNICEF and BBC Media Action colleagues, including the Regional Theory of Change sessions, to enable the consultant to lead on writing certain areas of the strategy, including but not limited to understanding digital users, approach to communication, content production and pilot testing.
2)
Delivering complete draft strategy (by 10th May 2024): The consultant will bring together all strategy inputs (from other members of the BBC Media Action team and sections written themselves) to deliver a holistic and comprehensive final output. What’s the role?
The Skies And Seas Hydrogen-fuels Accelerator (SASHA) Coalition aims to unify aviation and shipping to raise awareness of the vital role of green hydrogen and carbon dioxide from direct air capture in the decarbonisation of these two sectors. The Coalition is now well established with 5 exciting company members on the cutting edge of climate innovation. We are now moving into the next phase of work and are seeking to recruit a Senior Director to ensure that the Coalition achieves maximum impact. As Senior Director, you will have the opportunity to shape the decarbonisation of two large sectors: aviation and shipping. You could be instrumental in helping move these sectors to truly sustainable fuels, side-stepping non-solutions like biofuels and LNG. This is a fantastic role for someone who wants to combine their passions for supporting ambitious companies in their climate journey with directing and shaping policy.
You will manage a team of brilliant policy and corporate engagement experts as they work with the SASHA Coalition’s membership and seek to influence policymakers. We are looking for someone who can think strategically about growing the Coalition to ensure it maintains its ambition while increasing membership.
You will report to the Chief Strategy & Impact Officer (though in the immediate term to the CEO during a period of parental leave). The team will be growing over the next year and you will have the chance to direct the growth of the team. With elections approaching in the UK and the EU, you will also shape and execute the strategy to influence the next UK Government and EU Commission.

This a role is to support the development of an Enabling Environments (EE) culture in a range of settings. The role of the Enabling Environment Lead is to work closely with providers and recipients in each setting to embed EE principles and values in all aspects of their day-to-day work.
The post holder will be responsible for delivering a programme of knowledge and awareness of Enabling Environment principles and values; working alongside senior management teams, frontline staff, and recipients of the service to develop an enabling culture and then to support them to prepare for an Enabling Environments assessment. The Role:

JOB SUMMARY

Staffing:
- Providing leadership and direct line management support to Assistant Directors and Seniors within the Income Growth & Development team
- Leading and developing a team of experienced fundraisers and the marketing lead, to sustain, develop and grow a range of fundraising, marketing and other initiatives to maximise income from new and existing sources.
Planning and Management
- Implementing and executing the annual Fundraising, Business Development and Marketing Plans to meet targets. Prepare and presents regular reports on progress towards income generation goals, to CEO, then Board of Trustees.
- Monitoring income and managing departmental budgets. Analyses of all fundraising activities, events, including a robust patronage programme as well as funding campaigns, for excellent return on investment,
- To embed a culture for learning, that celebrate successes, encourages feedback and identifies areas for improvement.
Brand and Marketing
- Expanding and diversifying supporter reach and engagement to further enhance the return and reputation of the charity nationally, creating strong ‘brand awareness’ of all areas of our work.

- Building cross-departmental staff involvement in all fundraising events and income generating initiatives. Working closely with SMT colleagues to regularly update initiatives and share developments, both within Grief Encounter and more widely in the sector.
- Exhibiting a high level of visibility by attending a range of income generating events and functions throughout the year.
Digital Fundraising and Engagement
- Development and drive appropriate digital marketing campaigns across a range of social media platforms to engage supporters and increase donations.
Relationship Management
- Nurturing existing relationships and long standing supported to ensure stability for regular giving is well maintained.
