Since October 2018 they became a registered charity (1180445) working to make the landscape for UK based Muslim and non-Muslim led not-for-profits (NFPs) with an annual income of £1 million or less, an easier one to navigate by empowering and strengthening their individual capacities to achieve funding.
They assist NFPs working in various programme areas including, but not exclusively in homelessness, domestic violence & abuse, alcohol & drugs misuse, community empowerment/cohesion, women’s empowerment, youth work, older people, prisoners and ex-offenders etc.
Prospectus is delighted to be working with AWN to recruit a new Grants Manager (12 month contract) to join the team on a 4 day working week (Mon to Thurs).
The Grants Officer will create a positive impact on Muslim communities living in the UK by supporting the distribution of grant funding delivery. Working with the Trustees and the wider Team, you will ensure they deliver the best possible support and guidance consistently. This will involve being part of creating and perfecting sound grant-making processes, leading on outreach to under-served communities and guiding them through applications, selection, awarding, distribution and monitoring and evaluating outcomes with relevant departments. This person will also lead on delivering grants assessment panels, maintaining accurate data and supporting the trustees with progress reporting and internal and external stake-holder management. This is a relationship and process-based role which reaches right across the breadth of the work of the charity. It is core to the success of the charity.
This role will also assist the Communication Officer in the development of marketing and communications materials, including the identification of grantees to spotlight through digital storytelling and sharing content that can be used to promote the impact of the charity’s work through social media channels and events to showcase work where applicable. There will also be work around creating partnerships with other funders, representing AWN at events and conferences and ensuring market intelligence is shared with the wider team to constantly improve the support they offer to grantees.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record in Grant-making having worked with a local or national funder, foundation or funding body in the UK which will have given them a deep understanding of the issues faced by small, grass roots, community-based charities in achieving funding and success in meeting their aims and objectives. Experience of monitoring and evaluation, thorough knowledge of the Funding landscape in the UK, and the importance of data in decision making in addition to having an understanding and empathy of the current issues facing Muslim communities across the UK will all be essential.
This person will also have excellent communication skills and will be relatable to a wide cross section of audiences through being sincere, helpful and understanding with a positive approach to problem solving. Excellent attention to detail, highly organized and a being a good listener will all be core attributes of this person who will be central to the success of the grant making function at AWN.

Hand in Hand are a lean operation, with 90% of all funds raised being spent directly on programmes in 2023-2024. You will play an important part in maximising funds raised for Hand in Hand, contributing to long-term success.
Reporting directly to Head of Philanthropy and Partnerships, the primary objective of the role is to manage existing grants and accounts, secure new funding and manage a Philanthropy and Partnerships Officer.
Your key focus will be identifying, creating relationships with and securing donations from corporate and family Trusts and Foundations and/or major donors. The role is highly international, working with colleagues across Afghanistan, Kenya and Tanzania, and a prospect base spread across globe.
Key responsibilities
- Grow income securing five- and six-figure gifts from Trusts and Foundations (60%) Corporate (30%) and Major Donors (10%) supporting an income target of £1.8m.
- Drive the expansion of Hand in Hand’s income by securing significant gifts ranging from five to seven figures from both new and existing donors.
- Engage senior-level donors through calls, meetings, and events to provide updates on project advancements and identify additional donation opportunities.
- Collaborate with UK-based colleagues and in-country teams in the creation of comprehensive proposals, including narrative content, logical frameworks, and budgets.
Ideal experience
- Proven experience in high value fundraising across, trusts, corporate or major donor.
- Proven track record of building strong relationships with donors, and ultimately securing, as part of a team, successful asks of five or six figure gifts from UK and/or non-UK based donors.

Financial Controller - Projects | London | 12-month FTC | £55,000 - £60,000
For a leading global NGO, we're recruiting a Project Financial Controller for a fixed term of 12-months. Reporting to the Senior Financial Controller and working closely with the CEO, this role will lead the financial management and internal controls for the Regional and Country offices and shared service processes and transactions. The Projects Financial Controller will implement robust management reporting, and cash-flow forecasts, and will work with stakeholders to monitor budgets and forecasts. This is a key role within the NGO, and will be instrumental in building Finance knowledge, capacity and delivering training to Regional and country offices.
What you'll be doing:
- Monitoring and improving financial control processes
- Monitoring and analysing Regional, Country, Project and Departmental budgets and reporting including annual accounts of Country offices and reporting to external Donors
- Provide capacity building, training, and Finance support to all stakeholders
- Set up accounting systems for Country Offices and global offices, proposing improvements and robust controls
- Lead monthly and yearly close processes and review and prepare statutory audit deliverables
- Review and validate Country proposals, Donor proposals and reporting
- Review and reconcile Donor and Partner grants and reporting
- Support the migration and consolidation of data for closing processes
