We are Birmingham’s world-class producing theatre. We create inclusive, exciting and exceptional theatre by, with and for Birmingham and the wider world.
The Rep is a special place. It’s a place to be transported – to laugh and cry, wish and wonder. We create live experiences and memories, bringing communities and the arts closer together and enriching lives across the region and beyond.
Fundraising income is vital to our work on and off-stage and after a recent strategic review, we’ve identified that there is untapped potential and significant room for growth across all levels and forms. To meet our ambitions for this next level of fundraising activity and outcomes, we are seeking a creative, talented and collaborative fundraiser to join us and lead our efforts in this area.

In return, you will have the support of a senior leadership team, the Board, and an engaged Fundraising Development Board that is ready to help us achieve even more. You will have the opportunity to help shape our future and make a tangible impact at a challenging time for the arts sector.

Denville Hall
Appeal Director
£70,000
Hybrid
Full-time
Opened in 1926 as the ‘Haven for elderly actors & actresses’, Denville Hall has been providing care for actors and members of the wider theatrical industry ever since.
Care, happiness and dignity are our core values at Denville Hall.
We are one of just two adult social care facilities in the UK that is dedicated to the support of members of the theatre dance and music professions. While some achieve notable success, there are many who do not and pursuing a career in theatre and the arts can be a precarious business.
Denville Hall already provides a range of residential care services that are tailored to individual need and wishes, which can support people over time. The addition of sheltered accommodation offers the opportunity for us to extend the length of care and support that we are able to offer members of the arts professions whom we exist to serve.
The need for sheltered housing accommodation is clear and present. Quite simply, people are living longer and like all of us, they want to be independent as possible for as long as possible.
We have the plans and all the necessary planning permission for what we anticipate will be a very successful and high-profile £12m capital appeal. Already we have support promised from some of the UK’s house-hold names and are hopeful that we will also receive support from trusts and foundations dedicated to the support of the arts.
All that is needed now is an Appeal Director to deliver on all the promise that exists and that will leave a last legacy for both Denville Hall for the next 100 years as we will celebrate our centenary in 2026.
How to apply
For an informal conversation about the role, please contact our recruitment partner, Simon Lloyd, Director, NFP contact details on our website listing.
Application is by way of CV and a Supporting Statement, which should outline your motivations for wanting to be our Appeal Director and set out your credentials.
Closing date: Tuesday 2nd April
There is a two-stage selection process
First Interviews: Week beginning 8th April
The first round will be conducted via video by NFP Consulting.
Second interviews: Week beginning 15th April
The final stage will involve a panel interview conducted by trustees along with the opportunity for candidates to meet a selection of stakeholders.

The Wiener Holocaust Library is one of the world's leading and most extensive archives on the Holocaust, the Nazi era and genocide. The Library's unique collection of over one million items includes published and unpublished works, press cuttings, photographs and eyewitness testimony.
This year we celebrate our 90th birthday.
The Library has its origins in the work of Dr Alfred Wiener, who campaigned against Nazism during the 1920s and 30s and gathered evidence about antisemitism and the persecution of Jews in Germany.
We have a consistent track record of being able to generate the voluntary income needed on an annual basis in support of our core work, but we recognise that with additional resource we can achieve much more to both secure the long-term future of the Library and enhance our work.
This new role has been established to lead and implement the engagement strategy with both individual and organisational donors that builds a sustainable pipeline of philanthropic support to maintain and extend the work of the Wiener Holocaust Library and to secure its legacy for future generations in combating hate.
While the Library has a commendable track record for restricted funding, there is a strong need to increase unrestricted funding, which requires that we are effective in achieving greater diversity in our income streams and the donor constituency.
Our potential reach extends beyond the UK and our track record to date includes successfully engaging with U.S. funders, which is a foundation that can be built upon.

An important part of JW3’s funding comes from high-net-worth individuals (HNWI) who support the charity on a long-term basis. As Philanthropy Manager, you will maximise charitable income through building strong and authentic relationships with these HNWI's, and will be responsible for developing the major donor strategy with the support of the Development Director.

Founded in 1837, the Royal College of Art is the world’s largest community of postgraduate art and design students. It is also the oldest art and design university-level institution in continuous operation and has been ranked as the world’s number one art and design university for a remarkable nine consecutive years, according to the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2023 – the worldwide survey of academic and industry opinion.
We are seeking to appoint a proactive Major Gifts Manager.
Purpose of the role:
The Major Gifts Manager reports to the Deputy Director of Development & Alumni Relations and, working alongside the fellow Major Gift Manager, will manage a portfolio of prospects and donors giving 5 to 7 figure gifts to support the College’s mission and vision.
The current Development & Alumni relations team is small, comprising 12 members at present, operating in a small postgraduate university of only approximately 418 FTE. The team is responsible for all philanthropic income to the College, currently through the successful Generation RCA campaign and for the relationship with the Colleges over 26,000 alumni.
It is important that any prospective employee is comfortable with the scale and ethos of a small postgraduate university. There is a strong sense of collegiality that drives the RCA's success and team members at all levels work together to a shared goal and purpose. The role
The Programme and Evaluation Manager organises our music programmes: ongoing workshop series in detention centres and other settings, performances, special projects. So the role sits at the very centre of our work. Working closely with the Artistic Director, you will make Hear Me Out’s artistic programme a reality.
The main part of the job is to co-ordinate programme activities. This means you would need to:
- Liaise with settings, partners, artists and colleagues
- Match, book and support our artists
- Organise a mass of artistic and practical detail
- Work directly with people with lived experience of detention and asylum
- Understand the context and purpose of the work and what’s needed to make it succeed
We’re committed to evaluating our work. We want to know what difference it makes and what we can do better, so we ask participants to tell us what they think, and collect this data as we go along, to build up a picture of our impact. Organising this is an important part of the job. You’ll also lead some evaluation activities, such as focus groups with participants.
You’ll be the main point of contact for Hear Me Out’s freelance Associate Artists, supporting and supervising them as they lead music projects with adults and children, organising artist care and development activities, and helping bring people with lived experience into our artistic team.
Our programme is bigger than it has ever been, it has changed dramatically in the last few years in response to new challenges thrown up by the immigration system and we expect it will keep changing. So there will be lots of scope for you to make changes and develop new work.
This is a special opportunity to work join a supportive, dynamic team delivering extraordinary work.
What we’re looking for
We’re looking for someone with strong people skills and equally strong organisational skills. For the music-making to have its intended impact, you will need to have a real eye for fine detail, and lots of sensitivity and awareness of people and their needs, whether they are people going through the immigration system, or managers in detention centres and asylum hotels.
You’ll know something of our context, or be able to learn that quickly. You’ll be skilled at communicating with artists, colleagues and partners to ensure we have a shared, realistic plan. You’ll understand how the detail of artistic planning feeds through into outcomes. And you’ll be able to evaluate those outcomes in a systematic way.
We are a small team, and most of us work part-time. You’ll need to work independently, co-operate and communicate consistently, and adapt readily when things change. You’ll need to be available on Wednesdays (our ‘team day’), and sometimes to work evenings and weekends.
Hear Me Out is committed to diversity, and is working to bring more people with relevant lived experience into our team. We very much encourage applications from people from culturally diverse backgrounds, applicants with disabilities or neuro-diverse conditions, and people of different ages, gender, sexual orientations and socio-economic backgrounds. We very much encourage applications from people with personal experience of immigration detention, or the asylum process, or immigration enforcement. If you have programme experience and also this kind of lived experience, we would especially love to hear from you.
Terms & conditions
The following terms and conditions will apply:
- Contract: Permanent contract, subject to a 6-month probationary period
