Contract, Full-time
Job description

Start Date: 1 April 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter

Contract Type: This is a temporary position to provide parental leave cover and will terminate on or before 16 April 2021 on the return of the Director, Conservation Finance & Enterprise from parental leave.

Founded in 1903, Fauna & Flora International (FFI) is the world’s longest established international conservation organisation. Our vision is to create a sustainable future for the planet where biodiversity is conserved by the people living closest to it. We aim to do this through the conservation of threatened species and ecosystems worldwide, choosing solutions that are sustainable, based on sound science and take account of human needs. We have become a trusted entity in the world of conservation. Today FFI is active in over 40 countries.

FFI is seeking a Director to lead the operational management, implementation and development of FFI’s Conservation Finance & Enterprise programme.

You will have strong relevant experience in managing complex multi-stakeholder conservation finance and enterprise projects, including project design, project development and fundraising, technical and financial management and reporting for large funds and grants. Your strong technical background will include work on nature based solutions such as REDD+, conservation enterprise development, impact assessment and innovative conservation finance mechanisms.

A Masters’ degree or equivalent qualification in a conservation/natural resource management or relevant social/biological science field is essential, as is a detailed understanding of how businesses work and are financed.

Substantial experience of leadership and people management is essential for this role.  You will be an excellent people manager, focused on enabling your team members to develop and deliver in their roles. You will also be a skilled and credible communicator, confident in developing and managing relationships both internally, and at senior level with partner organisations and relevant stakeholders, including donors, funders and technical collaborators.

The successful applicant will enjoy working in a dynamic environment where the ability to respond swiftly and thoroughly to challenges and opportunities is paramount.  Fluency in written and spoken English is essential. Skills in languages relevant to FFI’s programme are highly desirable. Sensitivity to the different working environments of colleagues around the world is also essential.

This position is based in Cambridge. Some local and international travel will be required. In return, the role offers the opportunity to work within a ground-breaking and entrepreneurial organisation, at the forefront of global conservation. In addition, FFI offers a generous pension contribution, attractive annual leave allowance and life insurance.

Our offices are located in The David Attenborough Building in central Cambridge, just a few minutes’ walk from glorious historic buildings and museums, the picturesque River Cam, the central market and shopping centre, and a host of cafés and restaurants.

The closing date for applications is Wednesday, 5 February 2020.
