Reporting to the Director of Finance and Operations you will provide operational management of the finance department of the school, ensuring accurate financial reporting, appropriate financial controls are in place, that cash is managed prudently and that the department provides timely and relevant support to the business

Key Responsibilities include:

• Manage the finance team and the day to day running of the Finance Department to support the operation of the Prep and Senior School and subsidiary companies.
• Prepare management accounts, including balance sheet for the School and its subsidiaries each month showing the financial performance and position of each entity compared with budget, and produce a concise commentary on variances and other matters of significance and review with the DFO
• Providing information for the DFO and Finance and Council meetings as required
• With the DFO, prepare annual budgets for review
• Manage the annual audit and prepare audit files for submission by required date and manage the audit onsite field work team
• Prepare the annual Statement of Financial Activities and Balance Sheets for the School and its enterprise and international companies
• Assist DFO in preparation of annual Directors' Report
• Prepare monthly cash statements and aged debtor analyses
• Prepare cash flow statements each term
• Ensure the fixed asset register is maintained and depreciation calculated accurately
• Ensure that all intercompany transactions are properly reflected in the accounts of each company and in the consolidated financial statements of the School
• Prepare group VAT returns for the School's and subsidiaries and monitor non-VATable transactions for the Charity in respect of registration requirements
• Reverse VAT charges for overseas agents
• Liaise with VAT consultant where necessary
• Corporation Tax Returns for trading subsidiaries in conjunction with advisor

The organisation Working with a very well-established charitable foundation, the organisation comprises of three independent schools and two state-funded academies.

They are the holding company which owns the school land and buildings and manages the endowments valued at c.£50m. The Foundation Office delivers a "head office" type finance function for the Group and a range of other services to the schools, including governance and HR.

Your role The Group Finance Manager will work within a small team and an extended team of around 15-20 finance staff in the schools. The post reports to the Group Finance Director and the finance function are assisted by a part-time Finance Officer. The core part of the role is the production of the
annual report. You will also manage the group cash treasury system, managing 20+ bank accounts.

You will manage significant investments and investment property. You will also maintain an accurate cash flow forecast for the group. The annual audit is also a major part of the work, and you will be expected to play a key part in the management of the audit and preparation of the financial information for both the Foundation, and its trading subsidiaries and charitable trusts. There are significant capital projects in the pipeline which will also require support.
What you will need to succeed
You will be a fully qualified accountant (ACCA/ACA/CIMA/CIPFA)
Experience and Skills:

• Recent experience of group consolidation and reconciliation of intercompany balances
• Knowledge of Restricted, Designated and Unrestricted funds

About Our Client

The Director of Finance is responsible for the financial management of St George's Weybridge, a £30m business with over 500 staff. The post holder will fulfil a wide range of responsibilities and roles in connection with the financial strategy, accounting and general financial management of the School. Job Description

• Formulate the financial strategy of the School alongside Governors and the Executive Leadership Team (consisting of the two Heads and the Bursar).

• Formal Accounting qualification and experience of working in the commercial, educational or charity sectors.

St Paul’s Cathedral School are pleased to be exclusively partnering with Robertson Bell in search of a new Financial Controller to join their team on a permanent basis. St Paul’s Cathedral School is an independent, co-educational boarding and day school for boys and girls aged 5 to 13 (Reception to Year 8). 

The Financial Controller will report into the Bursar and be responsible for for the whole of the School’s day-to-day accounting function to ensure effective procedures and robust controls are in place for all aspects of the function.

The organisation:

Situated in the heart of the City of London, at the East side of the Cathdral, the School enjoys state-of-the-art facilities for academic work, music, performing arts and sport in a single-site campus. With around 275 pupils (with up to 36 Cathedral Choristers who are boarding pupils), the School is small enough to ensure that each pupil receives individual attention, yet large enough to offer an array of academic and extra-curricular opportunities that a Prep school could deliver. There are 84 members of staff, comprising teachers, teaching assistants, music instructors and a support team. 

The role:

• Assist the Bursar to seek commercial income opportunities and monitor and advise on school investments through liaison with external investment managers.
• Deputise for the Bursar in all finance matters and at governor committees, or at SLT meetings when requested by the Head. 
• Support the Bursar’s financial and audit responsibility.
• Check Income & Expenditure (I&E) variances and explain and compare findings to previous year, to budgets and to forecasts.
• Prepare weekly cashflow forecast and monthly management accounts.
• Compile and analyse the annual school budget, setting and monitoring. 
• Prepare initial input data for new arrivals, departing staff, music teachers and additional overtime payments. 
• Modernise the finance IT package and update the finance manual.
• Oversee and administer school fee collection, process supplier payments and invoices.
• Prepare and present the annual accounts for the annual statutory audit and liaise with the auditors and implement audit findings. 

The successful candidate will be:

• A fully qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA) or at Finalist level.
• Experienced in budgeting, forecasting and producing management accounts.
• A fantastic communicator.
• Experienced in developing and implementing financial systems and internal controls.
• Confident assisting with annual audits and in the preparing of annual accounts.

This position will be based officially at the head office in central London next to St Pauls Cathedral and will require the postholder to work from the office with occasional hybrid working. What will you be doing?

What you need to offer:

This is a Financial Controller role so we would expect candidates to possess a recognised CCAB accountancy qualification, but we are open as to whether this would be ACA / CIMA / ACCA or CIPFA and this will run alongside previous experience within a similar role.

In addition, we are looking for someone with experience of leading a team, who has also successfully implemented, reviewed and developed systems and processes that support a finance function.

You will need extensive experience working in financial management,  demonstrable expertise in the completion of financial reports and ability to complete core transactional work alongside strategic level responsibilities.  Most importantly as a Financial Controller you will have experience of consolidating accounts and managing financial risks.

Organisational Background

The Council for At-Risk Academics is a UK-registered charity founded in 1933 under the leadership of William Beveridge, to rescue academics suffering persecution under the rise of Nazism and facilitate their continued work in safety. Sixteen Cara Fellows from the 1930s and 1940s became Nobel Laureates, and many more innovators in their fields, including, Nikolaus Pevsner, Lise Meitner and Karl Popper. Cara has been a lifeline to academics at risk for just over 90 years, as and when world events have placed them in the line of fire: Hungarian Uprising, Cold War, Apartheid South Africa, Iran, Latin American Juntas, Vietnam, Kosovo, DRC, Rwanda, Sudan, Zimbabwe etc. and, more recently Iraq, Turkey, Yemen, Palestine, Syria, Afghanistan and Ukraine. Cara support is typically framed as temporary sanctuary offered at times of heightened risk.

Cara Objectives ‘To assist academics who have been, or are, or are at risk of being, subject to discrimination, persecution, suffering or violence on account of race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group, or political opinion, to relieve needs among them and their dependants and ensure that their specialist knowledge and abilities can continue to be used for the benefit of the public.’

‘To advance education by supporting academics and their educational institutions in countries where their continuing work is at risk or compromised, to ensure that such academics and institutions can continue to fulfil their critical role as educators for the public benefit.’

This is a critical time to join our dedicated and friendly Fellowship Programme team as we expand our capacity to support at-risk academics from the Middle East, Myanmar, Afghanistan, Ukraine and Russia and many other countries.

Part-time Fellowship Programme Assistant Role & Responsibilities

· Produce a weekly list of payments.

· Produce financial paperwork.

· Schedule Fellows’ placement disbursements on SalesForce (SF) – those having simple funding allocations and support the schedule of more complex funding requests when needed.

· Update disbursement details once paid on a weekly basis.

· Input payments made via our Pleo card to SF and link allocations.

· Update details for new grant requests (funding request status, disbursement details, and relevant allocations) and ongoing requests when needed.

· Support management of Fellowship-related grants (English, hardship, mentoring, small grants).

· Create payments and allocations for opportunities on SF once an award letter has been issued.

· Track invoice status and notify colleagues to initiate the invoicing process.

· Send invoice requests to our bookkeeper and update the relevant opportunities and payments on SF.

· Draft invoices when needed.

· Update opportunities and payments on SF for invoice paid/funding received.

· Analyse data for reporting to stakeholders and donors.

· Assist during the yearly audit.

Responsibilities also include related activities that might arise in relation to the Fellowship Programme as required by the Executive Director or Deputy Director/Fellowship Programme Manager.

Job Title - Financial Wellbeing Training Consultant

Contract - Freelance (12-month minimum commitment)

Hours - Flexible (50-150 hours per year, depending on personal preference, demand and available funding)

About The Role

A core strand of The Money Charity’s offering is helping adults in their place of work or in their local community to build the skills, knowledge, attitudes and behaviours to manage their money well. Our work has never been more needed with the pressures of the cost of living crisis, which whilst having a material impact on many people’s Financial Resilience, has opened up opportunities to talk to people about money and help them engage with their finances at this challenging time.

We do this by partnering with employers and community organisations to deliver a range of interactive Financial Wellbeing Workshops and Webinars to employees, volunteers and service users. The sessions are engaging, interactive and bring the topic of money management to life. Details of the sessions we currently offer, including the formats, can be found in our Workplace and Community Guides, published on our website.

We are looking for a new Freelance Consultant to add to our network of Financial Wellbeing specialists who deliver our sessions both in their region and virtually. The successful candidate will deliver Workshops both virtually (primarily via Zoom or Microsoft Teams) and face-to-face. This role will therefore involve a reasonable amount of travel within your region and occasionally more widely across the UK.

This Consultant will deliver both funded (free-of-charge) in Community settings and commercial (paid-for) Workshops in the Workplace. From time to time Consultants may also be used to support the delivery of a range of Financial Wellbeing Consultancy projects which can include, but is not limited to, the development and/or delivery of bespoke Workshops and Webinars.

Key Responsibilities 

Programme Delivery & Development

• Deliver The Money Charity’s Financial Wellbeing sessions in Workplaces and/or adult Community settings in your region and virtually, in accordance with the process and quality standards set out by the charity
• Establish and maintain positive relationships with clients and host organisations
• Effectively engaging participants by presenting sessions in a clear, concise, creative and engaging manner, ensuring delivery is appropriate to the audience of each setting as far as possible and that learning objectives are met
• Work collaboratively with charity staff to support programme delivery, including administrative and logistical support
• Support the continuous development and innovation of sessions and other programme content by providing feedback to programme teams in an honest and timely manner
• Stay up-to-date with financial products, current events, news and issues and relevant Financial Capability sector developments to ensure knowledge base for delivering high-quality sessions is sustained
• Delivery of Consultancy projects, allocated based on client needs and Consultant capabilities, working with other Consultants and staff of TMC to complete projects as required
• Contribute to the evaluation of Financial Wellbeing sessions and programme activities in collaboration with relevant charity staff and external partners
• Maintain accurate, up-to-date and GDPR compliant data, electronic and paper records for monitoring programme activities as required

General

• Support activities that contribute to the growth and sustainability of the charity as directed

Experience & Qualifications

• Experience delivering training to groups of young people and/or adults in a professional or voluntary capacity
