The Child Brain Injury Trust was originally set up by a group of medical professionals. The organisation has evolved over the years and is now the leading UK charity supporting families and professionals affected by childhood acquired brain injury. If you are, we are seeking a Trusts & Foundations Officer to be an integral part of the Trusts and Foundations team where you will be responsible for submitting applications to Trusts & Foundations for our services in the UK.

You will be working to deliver our ambitious targets for trust and foundations income for 2024/25 and beyond. The post-holder will help to research and explore new avenues for funding and build a strong pipeline of new donors who have the potential to support the charity. You will be building and maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders at trusts and foundations and preparing and delivering targeted funding applications to those organisations. You will be able to build upon and develop a compelling case for support for both the services we offer as a whole and for specific projects that reflect our work and values.

Ideally you will be looking to develop your skills with the aim of moving into a management role within the department within the next 2 – 3 years, so this role is to be viewed as a development opportunity.

Join us as our Director of Finance and IT at War Child UK, a pivotal role within our Leadership Group reporting directly to Helen Pattinson, CEO. Your role is to lead our finance and IT, but as a member of our leadership group to take joint responsibility with other Directors for leading the organisation.

As Finance and IT Director, you'll lead the optimisation of our finance and IT systems to streamline recording and reporting of financial transactions. Your analytical skills will be essential as you explore cost and income centres, supplying vital data necessary to significantly enhance our fundraising efforts.

Beyond day-to-day operations, you'll play a strategic role in long-term financial planning, fostering collaboration across the War Child Alliance. Together with fellow leaders, you'll steward the wider organisation, ensuring War Child UK is ready for success and equipped with ambitious financial investment frameworks.

Success in this role also entails ensuring our IT systems maintain the highest standards of excellence, delivering accurate and timely financial performance insights. You'll contribute to a vision where War Child UK achieves extraordinary results within a financially sound Alliance, empowering members to maximise their impact while being accountable for every penny raised.

You will be a qualified accountant with exceptional strategic and operational experience. You do not necessarily need to have prior international development experience, although you will need to demonstrate that you can build effective working relationships with overseas counterparts. Experience of working within a complex fundraising environment would be highly advantageous though.  For this role, we are also as keen to hear from experienced directors who are excited by what we do as we are from those for whom this would be their first senior leadership role.

Overall purpose

Provide strategic financial leadership for Baca and be accountable for the provision of financial and performance information to enable the Leadership Team and the Board to ensure Baca is financially sustainable for the purpose of achieving its vision and mission.

Core skill will be as a qualified accountant but you will demonstrate a range of experience leading teams and delivering a range of projects across the organisation using a joint working approach. As a member of the Leadership Team, you will work alongside other senior leaders to shape the strategic direction of the charity and ensure that its aims and objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Resource Planning, Budgeting and Reporting

• To direct Baca annual budget setting and longer term strategic financial planning, with robust analysis of income, expenditure, forecasts and cashflow.
• To deliver high quality financial reporting, providing advice and support, in writing and verbally, as required for the Leadership Team, the Finance and Fundraising sub-group and the Board of Trustees.
• To ensure budget holders receive up to date timely and accurate management accounts and information in order to maintain day to day control of the expenditure budget.
• Encouraging innovation and seeking best practice from inside and outside the sector.
• Identifying and responding to long-term strategic risks, challenges and opportunities to enable Baca achieving its Strategic Goals.
• Continually enhance the processes and procedures in place for resource allocation and monitoring at all levels of the charity
• Provide proactive assessment of opportunities to deliver efficiencies in collaboration with departments where necessary.

Leadership and Organisational Responsibilities

• As a member of the Leadership Team (LT), be a role model in practicing Baca’s values in order to achieve our Vision and Mission, prioritising the outcomes of the young people in all activities of the role.
• Together with the CEO, ensure all members of work with the Finance and Fundraising sub-group are regularly informed of all key strategic activity by leading the executive input and support to the Finance and Fundraising sub-group.
• Support the CEO to undertake negotiations with other organisations where necessary on matters of securing of resources.
• Ensure regulatory compliance with internal policy and procedures alongside external requirements of Charity Commission and Companies House.

• Steward Baca’s resources to effectively, economically and efficiently to achieve our Vision and Mission in line with our Values.

Financial Systems, Control and Accounting

• Oversee the integrity of all financial systems: Develop, monitor and manage the organisation’s financial systems, policies, procedures and internal controls and the development of a consistent approach across Baca.
• To lead the preparation of the organisation’s accounts for audit in accordance with current accounting good practice and Charity Commission’s Standards of Recommended Practice (SORP), liaising with the auditors and present the final accounts to the Finance and Fundraising sub-group and Board for approval.
• To be responsible for adhering to financial delegated authorities as agreed with the Chief Executive and Board.
• To implement, oversee and review Baca’s systems of financial risk management and controls assurance.
• To ensure the purchasing system operates effectively, ensuring sufficient supplies and services by working closely with the Operations Director.
• To lead the payroll provision and ensure that salary and related payments are made accurately and timely.
• To ensure that an appropriate register of assets are maintained accurately.
• To ensure that Baca has adequate cash holdings and cash is moved to interest bearing accounts as appropriate in line with Baca’s ethical asset management policy.

Team and People Management:

• Create, lead, manage, inspire and develop the finance team promoting Baca’s values by being visible, participative and encouraging cross team working
• Effectively manage the performance of the team, ensuring they are working to agreed objectives, delivering outcomes and that they receive appropriate training and support.
• Support theteam in day to day troubleshooting and administration where necessary.
• Develop and deliver integrated annual strategic objectives for all direct reports and their teams
• To keep abreast of legislation affecting financial accounting, that may be relevant to Baca, and to keep the Chief Executive fully aware of any relevant changes in the law.
• To maintain awareness of the fundraising, income generation and marketing environment
• To maintain and increase personal professional skills.

The Role 

JLGB are recruiting a Finance & Fundraising Coordinator who will play a vital role in helping the charity achieve its financial, fundraising and organisational objectives. Supporting the Director of Operations & Finance, the role is essential for the smooth running of the charity’s finances, collaborating with teams across JLGB, as well as volunteers and external suppliers. With some support from JLGB’s administration team, you will be undertaking all financial transactions including payment runs, bank and income reconciliations. Managing our donor database, ensuring that Gift Aid is collected regularly. The position will be suitable for someone who has experience in these areas and is flexible, reliable, highly numerate and interested in working to support young people to reach their potential. 

Responsibilities will include:

• Processing and reconciling various financial administrative tasks, including petty cash and incoming card payments (via stripe and other card processors) 

• Providing effective financial administrative support to all JLGB programmes and functions 

• Providing support to the Finance Director and assisting with management accounts 

• Preparing expenditure reports for the senior leadership team, finance sub-committee, Trustee Board, funders and stakeholders 

• Validating and processing weekly expenses 

• Ensuring that Gift Aid is collected on a regular basis

One of the nine members of the Coram group, Coram Children’s Legal Centre (CCLC) is the UK’s specialist centre for children’s rights in education, immigration, community care and family law, and provides significant international legal systems consultancy. Our Legal Practice Unit provides advice and representation primarily under legal aid contract. About the role

This role will provide financial and operational leadership and management for CCLC particularly focussed on the Legal Practice Unit and the Migrant Children’s Project but with support for the Child Law Advice Service and Coram International where required. Managing a small finance team, the role will hold primary responsibility for core financial functions within CCLC including legal aid billing and management and tracking of grant and other charitable funding. Through systematic and efficient financial management, the post holder will play a pivotal role in CCLC’s financial sustainability. The role will act as a key point of contact with Coram’s central finance team and a range of internal and external stakeholders on financial matters.

The role will also oversee the smooth running of the London and Colchester offices through line management of operations and administrative staff.

The role would suit a high organised and efficient business support professional with experience of financial management within the legal or charity sector. In particular, candidates with experience of legal billing and more specifically, civil legal aid billing, would be welcomed.

This is a largely office-based role in order to fully provide support to the finance and operations team. However, some remote / hybrid working may be possible depending the experience of the candidate after the initial settling in period (to be negotiated with the successful candidate).The finance team are split between the London and Colchester offices and the post holder should expect some travel to both locations. The large majority of the legal and policy team are based in London and as such regular (at least twice weekly) presence in our London office will be expected. However, on other days the candidate could be based in the London or Colchester office.

Whilst this is a full-time position, we will consider requests for part-time working (28 hours per week minimum) and we will endeavour to offer some flexibility with days and hours to be agreed.

Job Title: Programme Finance Manager - based in Sierra Leone

Principal Location: Freetown, Sierra Leone, with frequent travel to regional office / project sites
Time Frame: 18 month contract envisaged (possibility of extension based on performance and funding)

Background:

Our projects focus on a combination of education, child protection and livelihood support to address the social, economic and structural issues that underpin today’s education crisis. We partner with local organisations and communities to deliver our locally rooted programmes, using evidence to drive learning and the refinement and scale up of programmes to create maximum impact for the most children at the lowest cost. We pride ourselves on being willing to go to the world’s toughest places where others won’t, including remote, hard-to-reach areas and fragile, disaster-affected states across sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. Overview:

This unique and vital role has two key, linked, accountabilities.

Firstly, from a short-term and day-to-day perspective, this role will in effect be co-Financial Director of Street Child of Sierra Leone (SCoSL). Working alongside SCoSL's national FD, the holder of this role will be fully accountable to the Country Director of SCoSL, and relevant leaders within Street Child, for ensuring the efficient and effective delivery of all key functions of SCoSL's finance department.

Secondly, from a long-term development perspective, this position will take a lead in optimising all aspects of SCoSL's finance capability - with the goal of developing a robust 'best in class' department with optimal systems, processes and structures and personnel in place at all levels.

The absolute definition of success for this role-holder would be that whenever their time comes to move on, perhaps in 2025 or 2026, there is no need for this role to be replaced, with the SCoSL finance leadership and team well placed to effectively discharge all their key duties without the need for the type of assistance envisaged by this position.

The professional challenge inherent in this role, and the importance of its success is well appreciated by Street Child leadership and this role will be closely supported from multiple angles - in particular by Street Child's Senior Finance Manager for West Africa, Africa Finance Director, Global Finance Director and HQ Finance team - as well as the Freetown-based Head of Sierra Leone / Liberia Programmes and Global Programmes Co-ordinator.

Part 1: Role Purpose:

The purpose of this role is to lead improvements in the financial management of Street Child of Sierra Leone (SCoSL), a national education and child protection organisation with nationwide presence and annual budget of £1.5-2m. The role holder will also manage Street Child’s financial reporting and compliance requirements in delivering programmes in Sierra Leone.

The role will have dual reporting lines to Street Child’s West Africa Regional Finance Manager and Street Child of Sierra Leone’s Country Director, with oversight of Street Child of Sierra Leone’s finance team, and a close working relationship with SCoSL SMT and Street Child’s Head of Sierra Leone Programmes.

The role provides financial oversight of programmes in Sierra Leone, facilitating accurate and timely donor reporting, strong budget management and excellent record keeping. Key aspects of this role include: the development and implementation of robust financial management and reporting systems; strengthening the control environment and record keeping; empowering programmes and leadership teams to have strong financial management and grant management capabilities. The role also serves as a link between Street Child of Sierra Leone and Street Child UK, delivering monthly requisitions, annual budget information and other information as required.

Part 2: Key Responsibilities:

1) Development and implementation of robust financial management and reporting systems to facilitate accurate donor reporting, strong budget management and transparency for budgeting. (40%)

• Ensure that all staff are using the QuickBooks finance system in place at Street Child of Sierra Leone to provide accurate and timely recording of transactions – providing training, review, support and direct input as needed.
• Ensure that all month end processes are carried out in a timely manner including month end closure processes, bank reconciliations, balance sheet reconciliations, and generating reports.
• Providing reliable donor reports, Budget vs Actual reports to the Director and Programmes staff to facilitate good planning and anticipation of any changes needed to programmes delivery.
• Ensure that donor expenditure is recorded accurately and finance reports are of high quality with full supporting transaction listings reconciled to the finance system and delivered to deadlines in accordance donor requirements. Report on all costs incurred both at Street Child of Sierra Leone and Street Child HQ.
• Preparation of all donor reports, working with Partner Finance teams and programmes staff as needed to ensure that they are delivered on time and with appropriate sign off.
• Lead donor due diligence and donor audits by provision of information required.
• Provide input as necessary for all donor budget proposals, ensuring that costs requested are complete and reasonable seek approval for all donor proposal budgets before they are submitted to donors.
• Facilitate the year end audit, over-setting the end to end of the annual audit process.

2) Strengthening the control environment and record keeping. (30%)

• Review and assess the effectiveness of internal controls and recommend changes and improvements as required , and review any improvements in internal controls recommended by auditors or donors.
• Based on these reviews, devise a delivery plan to ensure that improvements are met, and support the delivery of that plan.
• Strong financial procedures are in place to accompany all payments and improvements are made to the payments system including in particular justifying the use of cash and advances.
• Ensure appropriate bank & cash management procedures are in place and operating effectively, including bank reconciliations for all accounts, cash counts and cash transfers to field sites.
• Ensure robust procurement processes are in place and being followed, working with the procurement team to make any changes needed and ensure that all staff are clear on the required procurement process.
• Developing Financial management tools, including policies and procedures as required.
• Ensure that monthly requisitions (the process for requesting monthly transfers from HQ) are robust, evidence based and submitted on time each month upcoming up with an annual budget, approved in accordance with SC budget timetable, working with the Senior West Africa Finance Manager to develop consistent templates to use in each template.
• Regularly advise and provide support on other issues as the need arises.

3) Participate in finance related meetings and initiatives for all SCoSL programmes, providing budget and financial guidance, including provision of training to colleagues. (10%)

Objective:

• To ensure the smooth-running of the programme with respect to its financial obligations.

Benchmarks:

• Compliance with the organisational procedures; quality of budget monitoring; quality of the budgets drawn up; quality of financial reports for donors; anticipation of financial problems

Activities:

• Provide BVAs every month by the 10th of M+1 of all contracts.
• Plan and lead the BVA analysis meetings every month before the 15th.
• Ensure coherency between the programme budget and the donors' budgets.
• Conduct the monthly, bi-annual and annual accounts closing operations · Raise programme teams' awareness of contractual budget and financial obligations.
• Analyse donor guidelines and inform the teams about these procedures and their application.

Overview:

This unique and vital role has two key, linked, accountabilities.

Firstly, from a short-term and day-to-day perspective, this role will in effect be Financial Director of Street Child of Liberia (SCoL). Working alongside SCoL's national Finance Manager, the holder of this role will be fully accountable to the Country Director of SCoL, and relevant leaders within Street Child, for ensuring the efficient and effective delivery of all key functions of SCoL's finance department.

Secondly, from a long-term development perspective, this position will take a lead in optimising all aspects of SCoL's finance capability - with the goal of developing a robust 'best in class' department with optimal systems, processes and structures and personnel in place at all levels.

The absolute definition of success for this role-holder would be that whenever their time comes to move on, perhaps in 2025 or 2026, there is no need for this role to be replaced, with the SCoL finance leadership and team well placed to effectively discharge all their key duties without the need for the type of assistance envisaged by this position.

The professional challenge inherent in this role, and the importance of its success is well appreciated by Street Child leadership and this role will be closely supported from multiple angles - in particular by Street Child's Senior Finance Manager for West Africa, Africa Finance Director, Global Finance Director and HQ Finance team - as well as the Freetown-based Head of Sierra Leone / Liberia Programmes and Global Programmes Co-ordinator.

Part 1: Role Purpose:

The purpose of this role is to lead improvements in the financial management of Street Child of Liberia (SCoL), a national education and child protection organisation with nationwide presence and annual budget of up to $1m. The role holder will also manage Street Child’s financial reporting and compliance requirements in delivering programmes in Liberia.

The role will have dual reporting lines to Street Child’s West Africa Regional Finance Manager and Street Child of Liberia’s Country Director, with oversight of Street Child of Liberia’s finance team, and a close working relationship with SCoL SMT and Street Child’s Monrovia based Programmes Manager and Freetown based Head of Sierra Leone / Liberia Programmes.

The role provides financial oversight of programmes in Liberia, facilitating accurate and timely donor reporting, strong budget management and excellent record keeping. Key aspects of this role include: the development and implementation of robust financial management and reporting systems; strengthening the control environment and record keeping; empowering programmes and leadership teams to have strong financial management and grant management capabilities. The role also serves as a link between Street Child of Liberia and Street Child UK, delivering monthly requisitions, annual budget information and other information as required.

Part 2: Key Responsibilities:

1) Development and implementation of robust financial management and reporting systems to facilitate accurate donor reporting, strong budget management and transparency for budgeting. (40%)

• Ensure that all staff are using the QuickBooks finance system in place at Street Child of Liberia to provide accurate and timely recording of transactions – providing training, review, support and direct input as needed.
• Ensure that all month end processes are carried out in a timely manner including month end closure processes, bank reconciliations, balance sheet reconciliations, and generating reports
• Providing reliable donor reports, Budget vs Actual reports to the Director and Programmes staff to facilitate good planning and anticipation of any changes needed to programmes delivery.
• Ensure that donor expenditure is recorded accurately and finance reports are of high quality with full supporting transaction listings reconciled to the finance system and delivered to deadlines in accordance donor requirements. Report on all costs incurred both at Street Child of Liberia and Street Child HQ.
• Preparation of all donor reports, working with Partner Finance teams and programmes staff as needed to ensure that they are delivered on time and with appropriate sign off.
• Lead donor due diligence and donor audits by provision of information required.
• Provide input as necessary for all donor budget proposals, ensuring that costs requested are complete and reasonable seek approval for all donor proposal budgets before they are submitted to donors
• Facilitate the year end audit, over-setting the end to end of the annual audit process.

2) Strengthening the control environment and record keeping (30%)

• Review and assess the effectiveness of internal controls and recommend changes and improvements as required , and review any improvements in internal controls recommended by auditors or donors.
• Based on these reviews, devise a delivery plan to ensure that improvements are met, and support the delivery of that plan.
• Strong financial procedures are in place to accompany all payments and improvements are made to the payments system including in particular justifying the use of cash and advances.
• Ensure appropriate bank & cash management procedures are in place and operating effectively, including bank reconciliations for all accounts, cash counts and cash transfers to field sites.
• Ensure robust procurement processes are in place and being followed, working with the procurement team to make any changes needed and ensure that all staff are clear on the required procurement process.
