The Head of IT will lead the development and delivery of Information Technology, Digital and Data strategies for Help Musicians, and their sister charity Music Minds Matter, to ensure a fit for purpose infrastructure, software products and information that supports their business needs, while continuously improving in line with new technologies. As a member of the leadership team, you will effectively lead the charity’s IT team and work closely with colleagues to deliver the businesses core strategic objectives.
Key Deliverables for this role include:
- Leads in the development of a multi-year IT strategy which supports the aims of the charity’s three-year business plan – develops, executes, and keeps up to date strategies (IT, Digital, Data) that delivers agreed outcomes.
- Manages IT related risks enabling the organisation to manage its operations and services safely and securely.
- Provides effective leadership and management to all those reporting to you, ensuring staff are motivated to deliver to their personal potential and add maximum value to the charity. Models’ leadership behaviours that will embed IT and digitalisation across the charity.
- Manages relationships with stakeholders to deliver successful outcomes and effective representation of department and the charity where required.
Main responsibilities
- Lead on the development and execution of the charity’s IT strategy that proactively supports the business and manages IT related risks well.
- Working collaboratively with the leadership team, model leadership behaviours that will embed IT and digitalisation across HM, upholding Help Musicians values, working with the highest professional standards and maintaining high staff morale.
- Develop and sustain excellent working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, working with teams to plan and deliver IT Programme.

Job Purpose:
The post holder will play a pivotal role in the strategic and operational development of the charity with particular responsibility for the charity operations, people and retail functions to ensure they are carried out efficiently and effectively and comply fully with all aspects of charity law and good practice.

Purpose of the role:
To support the Development and Fundraising function of the Trust, developing long term relationships and maximising income. Why Work for The Difference?
Schooling isn’t working for the children who need it most. Every week in England 109 children – equivalent to three full classrooms – are permanently excluded. This is just the tip of the iceberg. Since the pandemic, school suspensions have risen significantly, as has persistent absenteeism. 1 in 5 children are missing more than 10% of their time in school. Children who are excluded or persistently absent are much more likely to already be experiencing vulnerability or disadvantage. They are more likely to live in poverty, have additional learning needs, suffer mental health challenges, or experience a lack of safety outside school. Certain ethnicities are also disproportionately affected, notably Gypsy Roma Traveller and black Caribbean children.
Exclusion and high rates of absence can have a dramatic effect on life chances. These young people are more likely to drop out of education or employment, become vulnerable to long-term mental ill health, or be at risk of criminal exploitation. The Difference believes that children and young people deserve better and that the education system has to change.
Our Organisation
The Difference is a young education charity, founded to change the story on lost learning. By 2030, we want rates of exclusion and absence to be falling nationally and for schools to be better equipped to support all children, including those who may be vulnerable.
The Difference was born out of a year of research into school exclusions with think-tank IPPR. This research identified a lack of inclusion expertise in schools and proposed a new leadership development programme to fill this gap. In 2018, Difference founder Kiran hired the team who took this idea from concept to reality, beginning work with our first schools.
The Difference is now a 22-strong team delivering multiple school leadership programmes, alongside a growing research and policy arm. The team is supported by our Youth Advisory Board, made up of young people who have experienced exclusion and who provide their expertise and insights on how school inclusion work should be done. This work is needed more than ever. Effects of COVID-19, coupled with the spiralling cost of living, have substantially increased levels of vulnerability. Schools serving excluded pupils face under-funding. The Difference has had excellent early impact but there is work ahead to capture this, share learning with schools and policy-makers, and grow our capacity to lower exclusions across England.
The Task Ahead: Head of Impact
In 2022, The Difference established a Research, Impact and Influencing Directorate, indicating the growing importance of this work to our mission. We’re doing more to understand (and evidence) how school leaders who take part in our programmes are driving impactful inclusion in their schools. And we intend to use this to have a national impact on how schools are measured and driven to put pupil wellbeing, safety and belonging at the heart of their work. Improving our understanding of the impact of inclusion is key to successfully changing the story for students currently struggling in schools.
Key Tasks for this role include:

Strengthen our monitoring, evaluation and impact systems: using methods that are both qualitative (interviews, case-studies, roundtables) and quantitative (staff and student surveys, school data tracking), and collating and analysing the data collected to diagnose successes, challenges and opportunities within our work streams.

Act as an internal consultant with the team: bringing stakeholder feedback together in clear presentations for other staff members and acting as a “critical friend” during delivery and strategy planning. Identify insights that point to continuous improvement of our programmes and work with Programme Team to utilise insights.

Develop our qualitative framework to better track and measure whole-school inclusion. This framework will aim not just to support improved work for children in our schools, but to define what good looks like in the sector.

Progress our ambition to make inclusion more tangibly measurable: plan user-research with school partners to identify inclusion data needs and use these findings to develop impact tools that collate exclusion, attendance and demographic data. Work with others in the sector using innovative methods to measure inclusion through national datasets.

Expand our work on measuring school inclusion through student experience of safety, wellbeing and belonging. Grow the reach of our current survey tools and collaborating with others in the sector doing innovative work on student voice and inclusion.

Job Purpose
Oceana is looking for an experienced Head of Policy and Research to develop, implement and advise on all of our policy and research requirements in the UK. The position will be based in Oceana’s office in Paddington, London. Occasional travel will be required to meet team members and stakeholders in geographically diverse locations.
Reporting to the Campaigns Director, the Head of Policy and Research will work closely with other members of the Campaigns team ensure Oceana UK’s campaigns are scientifically robust and promoting sound policies. The role will help Oceana to carve out its niche and leadership in this complex campaigning landscape and drive forward bold policy positioning and hard-hitting research that inspire meaningful change.
Eligible candidates should have experience in both policy and research, as well as being strategic and proactive. They should be a self-starter, have leadership experience, and have a strong ability to work independently and as part of a small team.
This role will be based in our Paddington, London office three days per week (Tues-Thurs) with two days home working (Mon and Fri). It reports to the Campaigns Director.
Role Overview:
Policy:
Ø Lead on all projects relating to improvements in UK fisheries policies – including interpretation, analysis and engagement on existing and potential policies.
Ø Lead on all work relating to improvements in UK marine policies more broadly (e.g. MPAs; pollution; MSP; offshore energies) - including interpretation, analysis, and engagement on existing and potential policies.
Ø Advise on the strategic approach that Oceana UK takes to policy work.
Ø Respond to government policy consultations linked to our campaign areas (or coordinate our response with internal staff/consultants), and contribute to group responses (e.g. Wildlife & Countryside Link).

Education and work experience:

2. Job Description
The Head of External Engagement is a key leadership post within the organisation. The role encompasses responsibility for the development and delivery of the organisation’s external activity, including profile, brand identity and stakeholder engagement (including the public), fundraising, and driving income generation in new areas, notably commercial partnerships. It also forms part of Sound and Music’s senior management team, who under the leadership of the Chief Executive are responsible for overseeing the organisation’s programme of activity, strategic development, external profile and a positive and productive organisational culture.
An experienced fundraiser and communicator, you will lead the external engagement team and support the delivery of its strategic and operational plans. The broad remit of the role means the successful candidate will be a strong and confident communicator who builds networks easily and prioritises exceptional stakeholder management and relationship development.
Sound and Music operates a hybrid working model with a mix of in person and remote working, so we welcome applications from anywhere in the UK. Our office is in London and the minimum requirement will be to attend one day per week.

3. Key Responsibilities
Leadership and management
External leadership:
· Represent Sound and Music publicly, including through stakeholder and supporter events
· Work with the Head of Programmes to ensure Sound and Music’s advisory groups are meaningfully engaged
· Be the Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead for Sound and Music
Internal leadership:
· Shared strategic responsibility and accountability for Sound and Music’s three core aims and their associated objectives, outcomes and outputs
· Shared accountability (with other senior management colleagues) for the successful delivery and implementation of the organisation’s Business Plan
· Lead the organisation’s External Engagements team. This team includes a Communications and Insights Manager and Fundraising Coordinator (both line managed by the Head of External Engagement) plus support from other Sound and Music team members
Development and fundraising
· Develop and support the Chief Executive on the overall business and development strategy for the organisation to ensure we meet fundraising targets (£200k in 2024-25) for annual programmes and major projects
· Develop an ambitious fundraising programme which builds our supporter base and individual funding streams, including individuals, major gifts and public funders
· Drive income growth by identifying and negotiating commercial partnerships and contribute to the development of an enhanced commercial mindset across the organisation
· Develop and cultivate the existing trusts and foundations pipeline

Strategy and planning

This includes reporting and presenting to the Board and externally to help build engagement and relationships in the sector and with funders
· Assess the reputational, financial, delivery and other risks associated with current and new projects and partnerships
· Empower, model, support and encourage cross-team working to realise the full income generating possibilities of projects
Finance and governance
· Contribute to creating and monitoring the overall organisation budget
· Work closely with the Chief Executive, Head of Programmes and Finance Manager to formulate financial strategy against specified budget areas, and to ensure that the programme activity is sufficiently resourced, planned and delivered to budget
· Ensure close monitoring of income and expenditure for relevant budget lines and contribute to senior management team financial planning and review
· Attend Board and Financial Subcommittee meetings to present and report impact on a quarterly basis

Role Purpose:
The General Optical Council (GOC) are on a journey to be a world class regulator, with a world-class team. To get us to our destination and be ‘fit for the future,’ we are part way into a significant investment in developing our people and culture. In the short-term we need a dynamic, effective, experienced and qualified human resource professional to help us lead the delivery of our people plan and to develop a new 2025-30 five year people strategy.
This will be high-profile and satisfying role, providing leadership of a small team, combining leading and managing the GOC’s human resource functions with the development, co-production and delivery of our new people strategy, revised people plan and developing action plans to respond to and manage recommendations from recent reviews of some of our people policies, their interpretation by managers and staff, management styles and organisational culture.

Key Accountabilities:
- Finalise the design and implementation of a clear and compelling People management strategy (people plan) linked to the existing GOC strategic plan “Fit for the Future” and the developing new five-year strategy to ensure the organisation is equipped to meet current and future strategic objectives.
- Lead on delivery of all current HR Projects (new Knowledge Skills and Behaviour framework, Performance Management, Embedding Values and Behaviours and Organisational/ Workforce development) which support the objectives as set out in the Fit for the Future strategy document and any future HR Projects as they arise.
- Work as part of the Leadership Team and closely with the Senior Management Team to drive a high-performance culture with highly engaged staff.
- Review and improve the full employee life cycle from talent acquisition, recruitment strategy, onboarding to overseeing health and wellbeing initiatives and managing exit processes.
- Work closely with management to identify and deliver resource requirements, ensuring adherence to the recruitment process and good practice and promoting diversity and inclusion.
- Regularly review of staff salary scales and compensation and benefits package to ensure services remain competitive and make recommendations as appropriate.
- Work with Senior Management Team to agree the annual pay reviews and manager the annual performance appraisal outcome process.
- Work with and support the EDI manager to proactively develop and drive our commitment to delivering EDI improvements across the organisation including promoting positive relations and practices towards our diverse staff and members, helping to identify the barriers and solutions to overcome challenges to our progress in this area.

- Ensure all HR operations are organised, effective and efficient and aligned to service level agreements.
- Ensure accurate and timely payroll information is provided to Finance on a monthly basis for payroll processing and payments.

- Ensure all HR policies are compliant in law and legal requirements are met in all HR activities.
- Ensure awareness of the organisations approach to learning and development (L&D) and support the implementation of training on a range of important topics including diversity and inclusion (EDI), Cyber Security, GDPR.
- Develop and produce standard and ad hoc reports on HR data to the Director of Corporate Services, Senior Management Team, GOC Committees, GOC Council and external stakeholders as and when required.
- Measure employee satisfaction through the staff survey working closely with management to identify areas that require improvement.
- Manage financial aspects of the department, setting the budget in agreement with the Director and manage overall performance within the agreed budget limits.
