Katherine Low Settlement’s work with older people

Katherine Low Settlement has worked with older people since its conception in 1924.They are a core part of the community that we continue to work with. We provide, often in partnership, a range of projects and activities for older people including health and wellbeing; creative arts; intergenerational work; connecting people and trips/outings. Our services include an Older People's Lunch Club, Contact Club, T’ai Chi for Elders, exercise and social sessions, and support online.

We work with older people to:

• Encourage active and independent living

• Reduce isolation and loneliness

• Improve well-being and prevent ill-health

• Enable older residents to be dynamic and contributing members of the Wandsworth community.

Key Objectives for the Elders Core Service Manager Role:

1. Team Leadership: Lead a team of dedicated part-time paid staff and volunteers, including a cook, support worker, minibus driver, and sessional workers.
2. Day-to-Day Management: Manage the day-to-day operations of the Elders Core Service, including the lunch club, transport, social sessions, and overseeing the one-to-one work of the core team.
3. Collaboration: Work collaboratively with the wider team to provide a hands-on program that builds on older people's strengths and potential.
4. Monitoring and Evaluation: Support the monitoring and evaluation of the project in collaboration with the Head of Programme.
5. Budget Management: Ensure the program operates within budget constraints.
6. Member Engagement: Support the planning of the core program with input from elder members and the wider team.
7. Recruitment and Support: Recruit and support new and existing members (service users).

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Delivery

• Planning and Oversight: Ensure that all service output aligns with KLS' vision, mission, values, and charitable objectives. Organize and promote one-off activities throughout the year.
• Transport Management: Manage the transport offer, including route planning and pick-up schedules.
• Record Keeping: Maintain accurate activity records, registers, and casework notes for the core team.
• Outreach and Support: Conduct outreach work with older people in the community, oversee home visits, and manage a small caseload.

2. Staff and Volunteer Management

• Recruitment and Line Management: Recruit and manage the Outreach and Support Workers, Lunch Club Cook, and relevant social activities workers and volunteers.
• Performance Management: Use performance management and quality systems to monitor and evaluate the project's work and processes.

3. Relationships, Communication, and Networks

• Member Engagement: Build and sustain strong relationships with elder members.
• Communication: Oversee communication for the Core Programme, including newsletters, activities calendar, annual reports, and social media platforms.
• Meetings: Attend meetings on behalf of the Core Programme as required.

4. Finance

• Budget Management: Manage project areas to budget and maintain financial records as agreed with the Head of Programme.

5. Other Duties

• Professional Development: Participate in regular management supervision and annual appraisal. Identify job-related development and training needs.

Community Advice Works is an established community charity based in New Cross in South
East London. As the only charity in the London Borough of Lewisham offering a general
drop-in advice service, we are a critical source of support to vulnerable residents. We have

Key duties

• Staff and volunteer management

The role:

The Financial Inclusion Managers will play a central role in helping us achieve our vision for an end for the need for food banks in the UK. This is a varied, proactive and fast-paced role responsible for day-to-day coordination of local and regional projects and partnerships and providing direct support to food banks in your local area. The role will focus on delivering support and services to Trussell Trust food banks and partner organisations to develop and optimise timely access to financial inclusion support to those visiting (or at risk of needing to visit) food banks including through individual meetings, development visits, regional events, training sessions and national conferences.

Role responsibilities

· Assist food banks to develop their financial inclusion offering by providing advice and support to develop new initiatives and partnerships, optimise existing ones and/or develop referral relationships with advice sector partners

· Support good practice in service models, quality assurance processes, governance, monitoring, evaluation and reporting, referral pathways and engaging volunteers and promote a culture of learning and improvement and participation of diverse communities with lived experience.

· Build and maintain strong relationships with food bank staff and volunteers, as well as establishing effective partnerships with a range of stakeholders including (including those that work with specific diverse groups who are affected by poverty). ABOUT BLACK ROOTZ

Black Rootz is a multigenerational growing project providing opportunities for Black and racially minoritised people to grow food for themselves, their families and their communities. Black Rootz was established in 2019 by a collective of Black growers in Haringey who recognised the need to organise to challenge the deep inequalities in the growing and food systems. Over the past 5 years, Black Rootz has developed a holistic practice for Black and racially minoritised communities incorporating intergenerational knowledge transfer, increased access to land and food sovereignty, regenerative environmental practices and reduced food inequality.

Black Rootz has been incubated as a project within The Ubele Initiative since 2019. As an established name in the growing community, it is now building towards an independent future.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Project Manager is a new role that will provide hands on management capacity to Black Rootz. The role will bring experience and energy to support the delivery and continued development of the project’s core activities; the Community Growing Programme and a new workshop series. The Project Manager will take on a management position and, with support from Ubele, help the project to navigate decisions that will enable Black Rootz to achieve its overall social, environmental, and operational ambitions. 

The successful candidate will be central in Black Rootz’ journey towards a more independent and sustainable future. The ideal candidate will be comfortable with the complexity andholistic nature of Black Rootz and will be committed to its values. The Role

Job Description

The purpose of this role is to

Finance

• Provide expertise to the Board of Trustees in all accounting and financial areas as part of a mutually supportive Senior Leadership Team.
• Prepare and present finance Board papers on a quarterly basis.
• Work with the Senior Leadership Team to ensure operational performance and financial targets are met.
• Lead on the monthly financial reviews to ensure we exercise rigorous financial control to optimise performance.
• Work with the Senior Leadership Team to push forward revenue opportunities and initiatives to drive cost efficiencies.
• Ensure the finance team has the right skills, processes, controls to ensure all aspects including purchase ledger, credit control, payroll and reporting work effectively.
• Overall responsibility for the preparation and completion of the annual budget for all divisions within the Company
• Control investment portfolio and short-term deposits and plan and manage the charity's tax liabilities under existing and proposed legislation. Evaluate the tax liability impact of contemplated courses of action
• Oversee the management of staff payroll and other benefits (Company Cars, private health scheme etc) including expenses
• Manage all pension activities
• Overall responsibility for the preparation of annual accounts. Ensure a satisfactory audit of these accounts and other interim accounts as may be required
• Analyse commercial elements of tenders and bids as required and advise on commercial viability of each proposal before tender or bid is submitted
• Overall responsibility for the procurement of goods and services across the organisation to achieve efficiencies.

Leadership and People Management

• Promote a highly visible leadership profile that incorporates our commitment to equality of opportunity, professionalism and quality standards
• Maintain an effective system of communication across the division, that ensures key information can be cascaded to staff effectively
• Together with the Senior Leadership Team ensure that business objectives are clearly understood across the organisation and that divisional activities support their achievement.
• Establish an effective methodology for managing performance of staff in order to support the achievement of business objectives
• Establish effective and productive relationships with all members of the Senior Leadership Team in order to deliver business excellence
• Encourage partnership working and cooperation pan RBLI.

The Successful Applicant

• Experienced Financial Director
• Significant experience at senior management level, with substantial budgetary responsibility and a proven track record of achievement in at least two relevant service areas
• Fully CIMA, ACA or ACCA qualified
• Financial accounting experience of financial management in a commercial or not for profit organisation
• Solution oriented with a proven ability to successfully deliver in a complex environment
• Exceptional people leadership skills with a proven ability to motivate, develop and inspire people to deliver outstanding performance
• Experience of successfully working at senior level with Boards and Committees
• Up-to-date knowledge of legislative frameworks, regulatory requirements and key issues relevant to the post
• IT literate (Microsoft Office)

SARSVL is looking for a highly skilled and experienced, self-employed charity finance professional to manage the day-to-day running of all financial aspects of the Charity’s work, in the freelance role of Finance Support Contractor. The role includes bookkeeping, financial reporting, accounting, banking and Company Secretarial work for the Charity.

We are a specialist voluntary sector organisation offering a range of services to women, girls and non-binary people (who feel our woman-centred approach is right for them) who’ve been through child sexual abuse (CSA), rape or any kind of sexual violence at any time in their lives. 

Hours are flexible to reflect the workload at a particular point in the Charity’s year, but the current incumbent works on average about 20 hours per month. The role is home-based, with willingness and ability to meet in person in Leeds city centre up to 6 times per year (negotiable)
