We’re seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Head of Technology & Facilities to lead our operational work for the next 18 months, reporting to the Chief Technology Officer. Your role will be about ensuring we continue to deliver and develop an excellent service for colleagues while some staff are seconded to a major CRM implementation project.
Our modern and well-established Office 365 and Azure technology has served us well through the challenges of the past year, and you’ll lead our efforts to ensure it remains fit for purpose as we transition to hybrid working, using your experience of Microsoft technologies, Agile project management, and ITIL Service Desk processes. With almost all our resources already in the Azure cloud, we have exciting plans for the continuing improvement of our technology, continuing the journey to a serverless model to complement our new Dynamics CRM.
You’ll also oversee the work of our small Facilities team, who manage our modern London Office at the Printworks and our regional/national offices, as well as Health and Safety. Prior experience of facilities or Health & Safety management is not essential, although it would be an advantage.
Key Skills and Attributes:
- Experience leading a multi-disciplinary technology team in a similar organisation.
- Experience managing a technology environment including Microsoft Azure, Office 365, ITIL Service Desk.
- Good working knowledge of practical Information Security and risk management approaches.
- Excellent communicator and people person.
- Strong leadership and people and project management skills.
- Experience in managing a large and complex range of budgets.
Technology and Infrastructure supports both the technology and data that Friends of the Earth uses to achieve impact, and the underlying virtual and physical infrastructure. We aim to ensure that all colleagues have an appropriate technology and physical work environment; that our data flows are accurate, efficient and compliant; that colleagues are well supported to work effectively; and that Friends of the Earth operates in a healthy and safe manner.
The department comprises 15 people, with some colleagues based in our London Office, and others working in regional offices or from home around the UK. We’re a focussed and experienced bunch of experts working across a wide range of different topics – and we have a strongly collaborative and fun team working environment.
Our ITIL Service Desk Team supports colleagues to have an effective technical and physical work environment, supported by our smaller Facilities and IT Infrastructure Teams. The Applications Team supports and helps improve our line of business applications and runs key projects, and our Data Engineering Team oversees our CRM and integration between different systems.
A big focus for the next year will be on replacing our CRM system; with a range of staff seconded to this project. We expect the postholder will help form a new property strategy as we move to hybrid working. The interim Head will be tasked with keeping our operational activities working well outside of the CRM project, particularly given the developing landscape around hybrid working, reviewing our approach to offices, and continuing to improve our technology approach.
