Job Description

A great opportunity has arisen for a Fundraising Communications Officer for a medical related charity in order to develop communications (plans and messages) for all the charity fundraising event. This will be a permanent role based in Horsham. Fundraising Communications Officer will write compelling press releases and write copy for the charity s publications, website, and other e-communications (such as social media channels).

Key Responsibilities will include:

To develop, in conjunction with the Communications Director and Fundraising teams, plans for PR work to support key fundraising activities.
To work with fundraising staff to deliver PR plans. Duties include developing messages, general copywriting, writing content for the website, drafting and issuing press releases, helping organise media events, liaising with journalists and sourcing media comment.
To provide PR advice and support to fundraising staff on media opportunities.
To build relationships with journalists across target media.
To contribute to the recruitment and management of key celebrities, and act as the departmental point of contact for celebrity supporters and agents.
To oversee the electronic media monitoring system in place. Circulate relevant press cuttings to key staff, as well as producing monthly statistics on coverage and produce monthly press cuttings books.
To work as an integral member of the communications team, providing support to other areas of communications work as required, as requested by the Director of Communications.
To support the Chief Executive on communications issues in the absence of the Communications Director.

In order to apply you should have the following skills and experience:
Proven experience of developing and delivering media stories and working with print and broadcast journalists as well as consumer publications/online channels.
Experience of copy writing for a range of audiences; proven ability to write about complex issues clearly and effectively.
Experience of evaluating media coverage.
Appreciation of the communications needs of a medical research fundraising charity working with volunteers.
Good knowledge of UK national and regional print, broadcast and online media (essential)
Proven experience of developing and delivering national media stories and working with print and broadcast journalists (essential).
