We're looking for an inspiring Strategic Communications Manager who will work closely with the Executive Director of our directorate (Marketing, Fundraising & Engagement - MFE) and their Senior Leadership Team and own the coordinated approach to strategic and integrated communications. You will plan and deliver internal communications and engagement activity that maximises the impact of our directorate, including managing leadership forums, and supporting key strategic initiatives on behalf of the Executive Director.

What will I be doing?

• To strategically plan and deliver a coordinated programme of internal communications and engagement activity which ensures our directorate is and continues, to be a great place to work. To evaluate the impact of this communication, including using internal data (e.g. staff surveys) to plan interventions that improve employee experience

• Be responsible for managing, compiling and drafting a range of communications for the Executive Director including fortnightly briefings, analyses & speeches, personal social media accounts, and being fully aware of current/ future issues within our directorate and the wider organisation

• Lead the planning of an engaging annual directorate away day event and quarterly broadcasts that connect and inspire our people

• Collaborate with teams within the Communications department and other Marketing, Fundraising and Engagement teams in the oversight, development and delivery of the MFE internal communications strategy

• Develop and execute a comprehensive portfolio of external communications from the directorates senior leadership team targeted at specific audiences across key channels, in order to champion CRUK as an attractive employer and destination charity partner

• Support the Executive Director on key strategic and change initiatives as required, including working with relevant members of the senior leaders to facilitate progress on change

What are you looking for?

• Significant internal communications experience, or demonstrable experience in a related field (e.g. Public Relations, Marketing Communications, Employee Engagement etc) preferable. Ideally, this would have been gained in a large organisation with a dispersed/ hybrid workforce.

• Strong understanding of effective internal and external communication strategies and plans. Ability to create compelling content for various communication channels

• Analytical mindset with the ability to measure and evaluate the success of strategic communication and engagement initiatives

• Proven ability to create and deliver high impact communications through a range of channels within tight timeframes

• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with proven ability to develop engaging briefings, presentations and speeches

• Excellent at managing competing demands from internal stakeholders

• Excellent interpersonal and networking skills with proven ability to develop and manage strong relationships with a wide range of people at all levels of the organisation

What will I be doing?

• Management of CRUK's Data Security and Protection Toolkit (DSPT) accreditation and all associated policies, processes, risk assessment and staff training required for its maintenance

• Developing and implementing processes captured within documentation across the Cancer Intelligence Team, including the delivery of training to and assessment of staff to ensure high level and consistent knowledge of processes for handling sensitive/confidential health data

• Writing, updating and/or collating all relevant documentation required for successful submission of officially recognised data security accreditations

• Identifying risks and developing mitigation strategies, including the maintenance of a data asset risk register

• Providing technical support for applications to acquire data for the Cancer Intelligence team (including both regular updates of official statistics, and bespoke extracts of patient and other data that may require Research Ethics approval or equivalent), ensuring these applications meet the requirements of our data suppliers

• Leading on logistical aspects of acquiring data, including tracking requests, and anticipating and resolving potential delays

• Identifying potential and actual system bottlenecks; and assisting the Data Liaison Manager to bring about improvements in access to patient data

• Providing regular management information about data acquisition processes for the Data Liaison Manager and Head of Cancer Intelligence

• Responsible for ensuring that data are transferred, stored and accessed as prescribed in Cancer Intelligence Information Security Management System policies.

A major new initiative, The CRUK Cancer Data Trusted Research Programme (TRP), is an advisory service that offers a secure environment which supports researchers who are working with sensitive cancer-related data. It will also enable the further use of CRUK-funded research data.

We have an exciting opportunity for you to join us as a Research Data Officer. In this role, you'll play a key role in the running of the TR Programme and work with external researchers to help the format and wrangle their data to conduct their research. Further to this, you'll work with CRUK's internal teams and the wider research community to catalogue the data holdings held by CRUK and support the interoperability of data holdings within CRUK and with other health data repositories across the UK and internationally.

What will I be doing?

• Catalogue and publish comprehensive data dictionaries of CRUK data holdings (including on the HDR UK Gateway)

• Working with CRUK's TRP and Data Liaison Teams to onboard data sets and users into our data architecture

• Working closely with the wider Data and Informatics Team and external infrastructure providers to onboard research projects and ensure technical setup is in line with researcher requirements, including validating testing of the environment before it goes live with external researchers

• Working closely with the onboarded researchers to ensure their data management plans, configuration, formatting and processing of the data can be achieved

• Developing and establishing linkage and interoperability with datasets and repositories external to CRUK

• Transferring data from completed projects to centralised repositories of data in line with appropriate permissions and approvals

• Developing and delivering training materials to external researchers about the environment and ensure confidence in ability before go-live

• Working closely with relevant teams across CRUK to develop the TRP

• Developing and maintaining relationships with relevant external organisations

• Being responsible for defined KPIs and reporting on these regularly.

What skills are you looking for?

• Strong understanding of health data management principles, practices and standards, particularly related to cancer and its management

• Knowledge and understanding of wider health, care and social data related to cancer and the experience of patients

• Knowledge of data dictionary publication methods, meta-data management and data cataloguing techniques, methods, and coding schemes such as SNOMED-CT, ICD-9, and READ codes

• Knowledge of data linkage techniques and data analytics system architectures

• Familiarity with key interoperability standards and technologies (such as HL7 FIHR, openEHR, EN/ISO 13606) and the role of OMOP in operationalising data model consistency, in line with data governance frameworks, data protection regulations and ethical considerations in research data management

• Proven ability in managing data sets and liaising with researchers and/or institutions on their data management requirements and handling

• Good relationship management skills, with the ability to establish and develop new relationships with researchers

• Good communication skills, with the ability to explain complex or technical information to a variety of audiences.

In this role, you'll be responsible for delivering local Cancer Awareness Roadshow and Hub activity - informing and empowering people to make healthy lifestyle changes and promote early diagnosis through in-depth face-to-face interactions and signposting into local services, particularly among those at greatest risk. This will include working on Cancer Research UK's Cancer Awareness Roadshow and Cancer Awareness Hub and other health promotion activities as required.

What will I be doing?

• Overseeing the day-to-day delivery of Roadshow and Hub activity in your area in line with Health Community Engagement strategy, ensuring smooth running and effective team working with the other nurse, Roadshow Logistics Manger (RLM), health workers and volunteers resolving day-to-day issues in a pragmatic way and escalating to the Cancer Awareness Nurse Manager or Senior HCE Manager when necessary

• Planning a schedule of cancer awareness outreach activity that is aligned with team and directorate strategy and priorities - including scoping local venues and making recommendations, and delivering health stands, workshops and presentation to the public

• Responsible for having tailored in-depth face-to-face interactions with members of the public to raise awareness of cancer, sharing evidence-based messages and encouraging people to take positive action for their health

• Ensuring that all health workers and other internal and external staff working with you are clearly briefed on their remit and boundaries prior to public-facing activity and closely monitor them throughout

• Registered Adult Nurse - NMC registration is mandatory for this role and must be maintained at all times

What are you looking for?

• Experience in working within a large complex, matrix led organisation, comfortably navigating stakeholder requests and representing retails own strategic aims and goals.

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Solicitor to provide effective legal support to Cancer Research Horizons (CRH) across the full spectrum of activities, ensuring the effective delivery of the organisational strategy. This role involves high-quality and fast-paced work in a collegiate environment and with a high degree of autonomy. It offers a unique range of work across academia, charity and commercial research, within a team dedicated to translating CRUK's pioneering scientific breakthroughs into life-changing cancer treatments.

What will I be doing?

• Work independently to provide timely, proactive, pragmatic, high quality and commercial legal advice and solutions to the organisation.

• Review, draft, and negotiate a broad range of legal agreements relating to collaborative research and the protection and commercial exploitation of intellectual property.

• Build an excellent understanding of CRH's business areas, building rapport and good working relationships across CRH and CRUK, as well as with internal and external clients.

• Identify, advise on and ensure good contract management practice, in particular to embed the various policies and programmes designed to ensure contractual, corporate and legislative compliance.

• Advise on spin-out activity and drafting and negotiating relevant agreements.

• Develop and deliver training sessions to business managers.

• Develop and maintain know-how and legal resources including through the intranet, such as template agreements and guidance notes on common issues/questions.

• Manage potential / actual disputes and instruct and manage external legal advisers.

• Assist CRUK in formulating policy in relation to its translational research activities and intellectual assets.

• Proactively identify, monitor, address, and report on legal (and where appropriate other business) issues of significance.

• Keep abreast of legal and regulatory changes, sharing relevant insights within the Research & Innovation (R&I) Legal Team and contribute to legal know-how resources.

• You'll be reporting directly to the Director of Legal for R&I.

What skills are you looking for?

• Qualified lawyer with sound legal training in a well-regarded legal practice, and relevant post-qualification experience in-house and/or in private practice.

• Strong knowledge of intellectual property law (particularly patents), contract law and company law; ideally working knowledge of competition law and the regulatory environment relating to pharmaceutical product development.

• Good drafting skills with experience of drafting agreements.

• Solution-focused and pragmatic and able to apply legal knowledge and good practice in day-to-day work.

• Able and prepared to quickly develop a good understanding of new legal areas and issues which affect the organisation.

• Able to identify, concisely articulate and evaluate key issues and risks, taking ownership of providing solutions and practical guidance to clients.

• Able to recognise when more complex and serious issues arise and escalate appropriately.

• Ability to work independently to manage a diverse and extensive workload under pressure to meet short deadlines.

• Team player - ambitious for the R&I Legal Team with a real desire to see it excel.

• Manages and organises own time effectively to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines to manage clients' expectations and demands.

• Good relationship skills and ability to build effective external and internal networks for collaboration and knowledge sharing.

• Works to understand and support the commercial objectives of internal customers. Proactive, and able to take the initiative.

• Good interpersonal and communication skills in all media.

• A familiarity with clinical trial regulation would be beneficial.
