About the role
As a member of the leadership team, you’ll head up the Communications and Engagement function, overseeing and delivering integrated communications campaigns and ensuring disabled people’s voices are shared widely using inclusive tools and techniques. You’ll be responsible for member engagement, including events, with a focus on growing and diversifying membership, and bringing our community together. You’ll also have responsibility for brand, design, and marketing activity, ensuring this aligns with our values and is accessible.
You will make sure transport justice stays on the agenda, will help ensure that barriers to transport for disabled people are widely known among the public and decision makers, and will grow our movement so that disabled people’s lived experiences will be heard by society in our own words.

Are you looking for a new challenge or to take the next step in your marketing career? We are recruiting an experienced marketing professional to set up and develop our marketing and communications function and deliver a strategy to support our business objectives.
It’s an exciting time to join us. In this new role you’ll lead on all aspects of marketing and communications to build brand awareness, market services, increase revenue, support fundraising and communicate our impact effectively across our catchment area. You’ll also grow our marketing capability by working with agencies and suppliers, upskilling others, managing volunteers and in time a new team member.
Ideally you will have experience in business planning, setting an appropriate marketing mix across a range of channels, understanding audiences and knowing the importance of measurement and evaluation. You’ll be able to both think strategically and work hands-on, as you’ll oversee the day-to-day marketing activities and track their success.
You will have a collaborative, solution focussed attitude, working as part of a small, friendly management team. You’ll have experience working for or with charities or not for profits and support the aims and work of our organisation.
Based at our Birmingham office, the role will involve visiting our other locations from time to time and attending external meetings, so some flexibility in working hours and some travelling will be necessary. Up to 2 days a week may be worked from home depending on work requirements. We offer ongoing development, 25 days leave, a pension scheme and staff wellbeing support.

Your experience
- worked in a previous marketing role, within the education or youth sector or equivalent B2B market
- designed and delivered integrated outreach campaigns for customer acquisition.

This is a hybrid role. You will be working from home and join Team Together Days in a co-working space in London 2-3 individual days each month. These days are considered commuting days. You do not need to live in London to apply for this role, but you will need to consider a reasonable commuting distance for the team days in London.

Families Out Loud (FOL) is a Wiltshire charity working with families challenged by someone else’s drug and alcohol dependency, supporting them to bravely build a better life. We want to reach every family impacted by drug and alcohol use so they can speak out, free from stigma, and receive the support, care and help they need. Our services include one-to-one, group, family and bereavement support, as well as a specialist teen support service.

About the role
As a Marketing Coordinator working with Families Out Loud, you will be an energetic person who is passionate about brand awareness. You will complete themed projects encompassing both digital outputs and local community relationship building (e.g. launch of a new service – for example our new Teen Support engagement – or promoting upcoming events and driving target audience attendance). Within our values of Listen, Care, Be Practical and Show Determination, the key responsibilities of the role are:
- Plan, create, proofread and edit written and visual content, including the quarterly newsletter, for different audiences and channels
- Make contact and build relationships with community partners
- Work as part of a team to deliver in-person fundraising events
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of FOL’s marketing initiatives
- Work collaboratively with the Fundraiser
- Provide end-of-project reports
- Develop and maintain a good understanding of the charity’s services
Person Specification
We expect you to meet most of these criteria. However, we don’t expect you to meet every point and welcome applicants with transferable skills and the ability to apply themselves in a new context.
Qualifications & experience
Essential
- At least two years’ experience in a marketing or a copywriting role
- Experienced in using social media, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Just Giving
- Ability to represent the charity at fundraising events in Wiltshire
Desirable
- Lived-experience or an understanding of family addiction
- A marketing-related degree or CIM qualification
- Experience in using Canva, WordPress and Mailchimp
- Experience in the marketing aspects of in-person fundraising events
Skills and knowledge
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to connect with community partners and stakeholders
- A high standard of written English with the ability to produce clear, concise and effective copy
- Creative and professional design skills

We have two Individual Giving Manager vacancies within the mental health sector. These are newly created roles at separate but connected charities.
One is with the umbrella charity and the other is with one of their member charities. Reporting into the same Head of Individual Giving, each role will lead its own charity in developing income from individual giving.
The umbrella charity is a younger charity in operation for 7 years, and they are about to launch a product linked to women’s health and mental health – a sector leading step for them.
The member charity has been in existence for around 50 years and supports people severely affected by mental illness. They have a loyal support base which is cash-led.
The roles will need the same skill set from individual giving experts but will have their own nuances and differences. The roles are fully responsible for all individual giving activity, with income of c.£300,000 a year for each charity.
Both charities are in the investment stage of developing the programmes and there will be opportunity for creative and innovation on both programmes.
There is an individual giving officer for each role that will report to each manager.
As both programmes are developing there is the need to keep improving on processes, reporting and systems.
