About the role
Philanthropic income is a critical element of ClientEarth’s fundraising mix, especially its role in securing significant unrestricted income. Starting with a historically UK-centric philanthropy portfolio, our philanthropy team now works with supporters across Europe, US and Australia.
We are now looking to hire a new Lead role to drive forward our philanthropy programme across Europe. In this role, you will be responsible for setting strategic direction and promoting excellence management of your own portfolio of donors. You will be responsible for growing existing income streams, managing our Europe-based fundraisers and identifying new European philanthropic opportunities.
Main Duties
- Management of personal fix, six figure+ portfolio
- Manage relationships with senior internal stakeholders
- Develop and implement the Europe philanthropy strategy
- Develop KPIs and financial targets for the philanthropy team
- Support new fundraising focused geographic markets
- Line management of the European philanthropy team with three direct reports and a wider team of eight

Role requirements
- Significant philanthropy management experience of being an active fundraiser and working with complex funders with demonstrable experience of securing five and six figure, and multi year gifts
- Experience in multiple elements of philanthropy fundraising including identifying and building supporter bases in new geographies
- Excellent knowledge of donor and pipeline management and financial processes
- Experience in planning and leading strategic initiatives and ability to convene colleagues internally and ensure delivery of workstreams

The Philanthropy Manager is an exciting role within the Philanthropy & Partnerships team which will identify, cultivate and maximise relationships with Major Donors and Family Foundations through research, networking, events, proposals, and excellent stewardship. Knowledge, Skills/Qualifications & Experience
- Identify, cultivate and develop a portfolio of Major Donor and Family Foundation prospects.
- Meet or exceed fundraising targets each year.
- Develop high quality funding proposals, applications and reports for submission to prospects and donors.
- Support the development of the new Major Donor fundraising programme, taking a proactive approach to networking, and cultivating new cold contacts and prospects.
- Support the development and delivery of the Stewardship and Events programme and other Philanthropy processes.
- Depending on experience, may be involved in developing the US fundraising strategy with the support of the Senior Philanthropy Manager, Head of P&P and Director of Fundraising.
- Displaying the Trust values and behaviours at all times.
- Ensuring that diversity and inclusion are integrated into all aspects of Trust life and promoting inclusion by challenging behaviour, practices, actions, or decisions that are counter to the objectives of the Trust’s policies and values.
Experience & Knowledge
- Proven experience of philanthropy fundraising with a track record of initiating new philanthropic relationships.
- Successful track record of meeting or exceeding income targets.
- Experience of identifying and cultivating cold prospects.
- Experience of deepening donor relationships and growing philanthropic giving year on year.
- Thorough knowledge of legal, financial and ethical considerations related to fundraising from Major Donors and Family Foundations.
- Experience of developing high quality proposals and stewardship reports for prospects and donors.
- Experience of effectively using a CRM system for fundraising.
- Experience of fundraising in the Heritage or Environment sector is desirable.

As Fundraising & Partnerships Manager you will be responsible for all fundraising from trusts, foundations, statutory sources, as well as major donors, and supporting UK legacy strategy in Scotland.
We will look to you to increase income support for our work from Scottish sources. You’ll develop and deliver our fundraising strategy across multiple sources, including coordinating the development and management of key relationships and opportunities with major donors, charitable trusts, and partnerships. Collaborating with colleagues, you’ll plan and implement funding-related public, corporate and internal communications strategies. In addition to maintaining relationships with existing partners, you will proactively research and pursue new funding opportunities. You will also network in the fundraising, environmental and wider third sectors to maximise opportunities for growing support. It will also be important to keep up to date on good practice, legal and ethical compliance, sector debates and monitor effectiveness.
To help build back nature, we’re looking for someone with a background in charity fundraising, including partnership management. You will have a track record of writing successful funding applications and meeting financial targets. Good at building relationships, you will be used to developing and delivering complex projects with multiple internal and external stakeholders. You will also possess experience of leading on the development and delivery of fundraising-related communications, including compelling proposal and impact report writing. Naturally, you will have a strong understanding of the fundraising landscape in Scotland. In addition, you will be highly organised and possess strong communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills.

Our high-achieving Philanthropy Team is looking to recruit a Philanthropy Manager to help grow our donor portfolio and further increase philanthropic income for the RSPB. We are looking for an experienced major gifts fundraiser to join our friendly and hard-working team who will help us achieve our ambitious goals.
You will be responsible for cultivating a portfolio of prospects and donors through a range of engagement, to gain their financial support for programmes, projects and the wider RSPB. Working with colleagues in relevant departments, countries and regions, you will manage donor relationships and solicitation strategies to achieve the best outcome for the RSPB
What's the role about?
As a team player with a positive and diligent approach, you will:
- Look after your own portfolio of donors as well as reaching out to prospects and new donors. You will be responsible for fundraising information to advance plans and ensure prospect and donor records are accurate, incorporating any changes, new activities, updated plans, and new information as well as adding new relationships in keeping with data protection and team procedures.
- Work closely with your team and wider organisation colleagues to implement solicitation strategies, to secure financial support either by direct solicitation, preparing a written proposal, or working with senior management to make a solicitation.
- Be involved in the development of funding proposals for approved priority projects that will inspire potential donors to secure gifts.
- Contribute to the planning of and participate actively in events (face to face and online) to build relationships with donors and prospects for future income and to demonstrate the impact of gifts already received.
- Arrange meetings with individual donors at a variety of venues, including at our reserves, working closely with area and reserve colleagues to deliver an excellent experience for our supporters
- Be jointly responsible for the planning, writing, production and mailing of Philanthropy Matters, our publication aimed at philanthropic supporters.
- Build effective relationships both within the RSPB and external to it that will enhance its reputation and ultimately secure funding. This includes understanding donors’ wishes and aspirations and identifying links with approved priority projects with the aim of securing substantial gifts.
Essential skills, knowledge and experience:
- Intermediate levels of fundraising as demonstrated by work successes and recognised fundraising courses
- Experience in how to research and cultivate a prospect. And understanding of how to write a cultivation strategy
- Ability to write funding proposals and prepare briefing documents in advance of meetings and events
- Competent in the use of a CRM system (Salesforce), the Microsoft suite, other databases, research tools and methods
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels
- Ability to work collaboratively with team members, and people and teams outside of our department
- Good judgement when working with donors and ability to recognise potentially sensitive areas between prospects and the RSPB to ensure reputational values are maintained
- Experience of having successfully managed and developed donor relationships leading to substantial support.

The Grants Manager will join ClientEarth’s Grants Management Team and play a leading role in securing grant renewals and managing income from trusts, foundations and other statutory and institutional funders.
Our Development Department is responsible for raising funds to enable the organisation to deliver its mission. The department includes several fundraising strands: established Business Development and Grants programmes, respectively in charge of securing new funding and managing existing funding from trusts, foundations and institutional donors; a Philanthropy team, working with a wide range of individuals and organisations to raise primarily unrestricted gifts to support ClientEarth’s work; and a Digital Fundraising team.

You will hold a portfolio of key relationships with some of ClientEarth’s largest funders, and will be responsible for reporting and communicating externally to funders and other relevant stakeholders on all aspects of grant management.

- Manage a portfolio of grants from key Trusts, Foundations and statutory funders. Ensure that funders are aware of project performance, and that ClientEarth’s implementation is always in compliance with grant agreements.
- Maximise existing funder relationships through effective grant management, excellent stewardship and ensuring lessons learned from ClientEarth’s work are fed back and incorporated into future strategy.
- Support the Global Head of Grants in setting up and implementing frameworks and processes to review performance against annual targets and objectives that ensure effective grants management, and to improve best practices around proposal and report submissions.
- Collaborate with the Finance team to ensure the alignment of budget with project needs at proposal stage; ensure adequate budget monitoring to ensure prompt communications with funders on any project implementation issues.
- Support the Global Head of Grants to develop and implement the team’s annual planning and wider fundraising strategy.

The role
We are seeking a fundraiser or an experienced account manager who relishes the excitement of exceeding income targets and developing strong relationships. You will identify opportunities to increase the value of your partnership portfolio and work closely with the Corporate Development Team to ensure the transition between new business and account management is seamless for both FareShare and our partners.
You will manage a portfolio of partners: designing and delivering tailored partnership plans and an innovative and personalised suite of partnership activity. You will work with colleagues across fundraising to ensure we maximise the value of our partnerships. We currently have partnerships with a large variety of exciting brands from Tesco to Oliver Bonas, McDonalds to Subway, Kellogg’s to Pink Lady apples and Bloomberg to Burberry – our partners support us in a variety of ways including cause related marketing campaigns, staff and customer fundraising, corporate donations and wider sponsorships and partnerships.
To be successful in this role, you will have a proven track record of excellent partnership/relationship management and ideally have experience of delivering a variety of fundraising partnerships including commercial brand licensing. You will have excellent communication skills and will be comfortable negotiating bespoke deals and benefits packages and will lead renewal plans to secure and grow the support of current partners.
Cross team collaboration is crucial to the role and you will be able to demonstrate strong relationship building and influencing skills.
