We’re looking for a new Community Rail Support Officer based in southern England and the Midlands, to support our network of community rail partnerships (CRPs) and station adoption groups.
About us
Community Rail Network is a not-for-profit organisation, working across Britain, supporting a growing ‘community rail’ movement, which helps communities get the most from their railways, promotes sustainable and inclusive travel, coordinates volunteering and place-making, and brings people together.
Community rail is made up of 75 community-based partnership organisations, and around 1,200 station friends volunteer groups and other community-led initiatives around Britain. Their activities range from creative projects for young people, to advising train operators on service improvements, to building travel confidence with families and disabled people, to biodiversity projects at stations, to promoting greener travel and tourism by rail.
Our enthusiastic team of 22 works mainly from home in different locations, but we come together regularly in person and online. We work collaboratively to advise our members, provide training, events and resources, run campaigns, and champion community rail and its insights via decision-makers and the media. We believe in developing our team and supporting everyone to reach their potential while having a good work-life balance.
About this role
The purpose of this role is to provide support and advice to community rail partnerships and groups in the South of England and Midlands, on working effectively and delivering maximum benefit to their communities and railways.
You’ll be comfortable engaging and advising local groups and communities to extend existing and set up new initiatives, and to reach wider audiences with an evidence-led, place-based approach. As well as supporting local groups, you’ll work closely with the rail industry, and wider third and public sector partners to ensure collaboration and shared success.
Main responsibilities
- Provide direct support and advice to CRPs and their officers, and other community rail groups in the region. This includes responding to queries and requests, passing on specialist queries to other members of the team, and providing proactive support through our accreditation review process and as set out in our plans;
- Support the development of skills, confidence and effectiveness across the network of CRPs and station groups, helping them to increase their positive social, environmental and economic impact, including through referral to our training, events and resources;
- Support the development of emerging community rail partnerships, station friend groups and community-led stations and railway-related projects in the region;
- Helping our members to work effectively with rail, transport, local government and community partners, supporting effective relationship building and showing positive leadership and insights on community rail within the region;
- Work with the Support Manager on delivery and monitoring of our grant schemes, and support CRPs and groups in the region to apply, deliver successfully and report back on funded work;
- Gather and share examples, feedback and insights from our members across the region, to facilitate best practice sharing and confidence across community rail and to feed into our communications, resources, events and public affairs work;
- As a member of the Community Rail Network team, participate and contribute to our wider work as relevant, such as Community Rail Week, our annual conference and Awards.
Skills, competencies and experience
- Skills in in supporting community engagement projects; an understanding of and confidence in using community engagement, local communications, project planning and evaluation techniques
- Interpersonal skills and the ability to work confidently with stakeholders at all levels and facilitate positive discussion; articulate and assertive
- Excellent writing and presentational skills
- Awareness of sustainable transport and social inclusion, and an appreciation of the importance of rail, sustainable travel and mobility to communities
- A demonstrable ability to manage time effectively and juggle a range of activities in an organised and professional manner;
- Proactive, positive and self-motivated, able to work on own initiative and inspire and enthuse others, and overcome hurdles to achieve results;
- IT literate with a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, the internet and social media
Other information
- This post is home-based, but with regular travel (including overnight stays) within the south of England and Midlands, and nationally for team meetings
- The Community Rail Support Officer reports to the Support Manager within the Support and Development team
- Hours are 37 hours per week. A degree of flexibility and out-of-hours working (evenings and weekends) will be required, together with some travel and overnight absences
- This is a permanent position and includes a probationary period of three months from the date of appointment

We are currently recruiting for a F2F Fundraising Performance Coach's. The purpose of this role is to support the delivery of excellent fundraising results and fundraising compliance standards and specifically the delivery of performance improvements in our F2F fundraisers through coaching, training, and continuous development. The role will also involve direct fundraising where you will be expected to meet a personal target.
Key Accountabilities:
- Responsible for coaching the performance of multiple teams in the region that will consist of lone workers, pairs of fundraisers to bigger teams as the income plan increases.
- Responsible for an individual fundraising target and set of KPI’s that include inspiring people to become long-term monthly donors, generating income through contactless one-off donations and acquiring newsletter prospecting sign ups in a range of locations including residential door-to-door, town and city centres, private venues, and events and more commonly on our private land, the canal and river Towpaths.
- Acting as a hands-on fundraiser who leads by example, delivering fundraising income through signing up Friends and generating contactless income whilst demonstrating the Canal & River Trust ‘s values and behaviours.
- Generating income and being present on-site to visit fundraising teams, fundraise with them, cover sickness absence, coach performance, provide training & development of fundraisers, reinforce our culture of health & safety, embed compliance standards.
- Provide phone coaching and in-person coaching of fundraisers to support meeting their targets and KPI’s and in individual cases working with fundraisers to improve their results from their current level of performance to the required standard by equipping them with the technical and psychological training to work to their very best.
- Identify training requirements and deliver on and off field training and coaching to grow income.

- Undertake mystery shopping, observations and internal quality control auditing of values, behaviour, and fundraising technique.

- Working with our partner recruitment agency to arrange interviews, send out communications to candidates and sit on the interview panel with the aim of recruiting and onboarding new F2F fundraisers into the F2F programme.
- Support the delivery of performance incentives and setting up/editing teams on Evergiving and the rota.
- Provision of daily reports of observations and actions taken, areas of success, results for that day and areas of training and development identified.
- Process all sensitive and data protected information obtained by donors as confidential and in a safe and secure manner in line with the Trust’s GDPR and Security Procedures.
- Carrying out Daily Compliance training, Charity conversation, case for support and storytelling practice and Health and Safety training sessions as per directed by the Regional F2F Fundraising Manager.
- Manages feedback and complaints in a professional manner and follows the complaints process and communicates details to Regional F2F Fundraising Manager so it can be addressed in a timely and efficient manner.
Knowledge, Experience & Skills:
- Driver’s License is essential (requirement for Business insurance)

You will be responsible for cultivating a portfolio of prospects and donors through a range of engagement, to gain their financial support for programmes, projects and the wider RSPB. What's the role about?
As a team player with a positive and diligent approach, you will:
- Look after your own portfolio of donors as well as reaching out to prospects and new donors. You will be responsible for fundraising information to advance plans and ensure prospect and donor records are accurate, incorporating any changes, new activities, updated plans, and new information as well as adding new relationships in keeping with data protection and team procedures.
- Work closely with your team and wider organisation colleagues to implement solicitation strategies, to secure financial support either by direct solicitation, preparing a written proposal, or working with senior management to make a solicitation.
- Be involved in the development of funding proposals for approved priority projects that will inspire potential donors to secure gifts.
- Contribute to the planning of and participate actively in events (face to face and online) to build relationships with donors and prospects for future income and to demonstrate the impact of gifts already received.
- Arrange meetings with individual donors at a variety of venues, including at our reserves, working closely with area and reserve colleagues to deliver an excellent experience for our supporters
- Be jointly responsible for the planning, writing, production and mailing of Philanthropy Matters, our publication aimed at philanthropic supporters.
- Build effective relationships both within the RSPB and external to it that will enhance its reputation and ultimately secure funding. This includes understanding donors’ wishes and aspirations and identifying links with approved priority projects with the aim of securing substantial gifts.
Essential skills, knowledge and experience:
- Intermediate levels of fundraising as demonstrated by work successes and recognised fundraising courses
- Experience in how to research and cultivate a prospect. And understanding of how to write a cultivation strategy
- Ability to write funding proposals and prepare briefing documents in advance of meetings and events
- Competent in the use of a CRM system (Salesforce), the Microsoft suite, other databases, research tools and methods

The Grants Manager will join ClientEarth’s Grants Management Team and play a leading role in securing grant renewals and managing income from trusts, foundations and other statutory and institutional funders.
Our Development Department is responsible for raising funds to enable the organisation to deliver its mission. The department includes several fundraising strands: established Business Development and Grants programmes, respectively in charge of securing new funding and managing existing funding from trusts, foundations and institutional donors; a Philanthropy team, working with a wide range of individuals and organisations to raise primarily unrestricted gifts to support ClientEarth’s work; and a Digital Fundraising team.
You will work across ClientEarth’s programme areas and geographies to steward funder relationships, develop winning proposals, and ensure a growing and diverse funder base for ClientEarth, with income secured aligned to the organisation’s strategic priorities.
You will hold a portfolio of key relationships with some of ClientEarth’s largest funders, and will be responsible for reporting and communicating externally to funders and other relevant stakeholders on all aspects of grant management.
Main Duties
- Manage a portfolio of grants from key Trusts, Foundations and statutory funders. Ensure that funders are aware of project performance, and that ClientEarth’s implementation is always in compliance with grant agreements.
- Maximise existing funder relationships through effective grant management, excellent stewardship and ensuring lessons learned from ClientEarth’s work are fed back and incorporated into future strategy.
- Support the Global Head of Grants in setting up and implementing frameworks and processes to review performance against annual targets and objectives that ensure effective grants management, and to improve best practices around proposal and report submissions.
- Collaborate with the Finance team to ensure the alignment of budget with project needs at proposal stage; ensure adequate budget monitoring to ensure prompt communications with funders on any project implementation issues.
- Support the Global Head of Grants to develop and implement the team’s annual planning and wider fundraising strategy.

- Significant and demonstrable experience of working in a fundraising, grant management or a project management role for a charity, NGO, private or public entity
- Significant experience of drafting complex proposals for trusts, foundations and statutory institutions (including EU) and securing multi-year, six and seven-figure grants
- Experience leading the development and activity of proposal development teams, to ensure the effective and timely input of a variety of internal/external stakeholders into the fundraising process

The role
FareShare has a vibrant Fundraising team that has achieved incredible growth in support across income streams over recent years. To meet this ambition, we need to continue to grow our income and are looking for a Trusts and Grants Assistant who will be a key part of our Trusts and Grants team.
This is a new role that will lead on securing and managing grants of up to £10,000 and will provide support to the wider team on a range of functions, from bid development and supporter care, to research and prospecting, income reconciliation and record keeping. It joins a team of five that manage a diverse range of partnerships worth more than £4m each year.

About Social Change Lab
Social Change Lab is a nonprofit conducting and disseminating social movement research to help solve the world’s most pressing problems. Historically, social movements conducting disruptive campaigns seem to have been crucial in driving significant political, social and economic change. Despite this, there has been little research systematically analysing the effectiveness of social movements and the strategies or tactics that most influence the success of these campaigns. Our research addresses this neglected knowledge gap and provides actionable advice to advocates and philanthropists working on a variety of important issues, with a focus on animal advocacy and climate change. We support activist groups in choosing effective campaigning strategies and tactics (e.g. via delivering training and workshops) as well as supporting funders with their philanthropic giving. About the role
As the Director of Social Change Lab, you would have a high level of responsibility and high impact. Wimbledon and Putney Commons currently has a full-time vacancy for a Fundraising Manager to join the team as maternity cover. This is a fantastic opportunity for a person who loves making new connections, managing projects, working closely with a friendly team and for someone who would like to make a difference for nature and people.
We are seeking an experienced and self-motivated fundraiser to join our small team to manage income and relationships from a range of funders.
You will support the charity that manages the Commons by increasing income from a range of philanthropic sources by building relationships with supporters, developing grant funded projects and delivering fundraising campaigns and events. Through public appeals, major gifts, grants and sponsorship, you will raise funds to enable the charity to deliver nature and people engagement projects, helping the Commons team to improve accessibility and manage conservation.
We would expect the post holder to at least work the majority of their time in the charity’s office on the Commons to quickly build an understanding of the charity’s work and build relationships with the staff team and stakeholders.
This is fixed term contract, initially for six months but likely to extend for up to one year (ending early May 2025).

Location: Full-time arrangement involves minimum 2 days per week in-person at a private members club in Covent Garden, the heart of London. Part-time arrangement of 4 days per week also possible.

What we are looking for
We seek an exceptional communicator and grant-writer to build and nurture our campaign’s vital relationships with trusts, foundations, donors and journalists.
The ideal Development Manager will relish the challenge of building relationships with trusts and foundations. They will approach C-suite executives and other industry leaders with confidence.
The ideal candidate will find joy in thanking our donors and ensuring they understand the full impact of their support. They will see a donor of any size as an opportunity to broaden GRP’s community and secure even more significant donations in future.
Our Development Manager will also enjoy the intricacies of coordinating the various events that build and sustain relationships with trusts, foundations, donors and journalists.
Successful applicants will excel in multitasking and meeting ambitious deadlines in a fast-paced start-up work environment.
Professional experience required
Minimum 1 year of experience within the charity sector in a relevant field (philanthropy, development, stewardship, etc). Strong understanding of UK trusts and foundations sector necessary.

Main duties and responsibilities
Trust and foundations management (25% of work)
- Identifying, researching and engaging with potential trust and foundation core funders (for GRP’s operating costs)
- Writing and submitting persuasive grant applications and evaluation reports to GRP’s existing/potential core funders
- Supporting Chief Project Officer in presentation and pitching of GRP’s upcoming comprehensive campaign for multi-year core funding
- Assistance with calls, meetings and presentations with potential core funders
Event coordination (25% of work)
- Assist with coordination of GRP fundraising events for various target audiences, including large panel discussions, small/medium-sized networking events
- Coordination of venue hire, panellist outreach, invitation design/distribution/follow-ups, guestlist tracking, name badge production, preparation on the day and oversight, etc
Donor stewardship (25% of work)
- Relationship-building with individual and corporate donors to:
- GRP’s portfolio of climate charities (portfolio funding)
- GRP’s operating costs (core funding)
- Assistance with impact report production; coordination of report distribution
- Coordination of donor thank-you notes, newsletters, webinars, feedback solicitation, etc.
- Develop comprehensive donor stewardship journey to ensure donors fully understand their impact and develop a deeper connection to GRP
Public relations (25% of work)
- Maintenance and growth of GRP’s database of journalist contacts
- Drumbeat communications with journalists, including press releases and e-alerts
- Identification of podcast, interview, and article-writing opportunities for GRP team
- Other creative engagement with media, including press events/conferences
