We are looking for an experienced fundraiser, to lead on Neuroscience related fundraising for the Departments of Psychiatry and Clinical Neurosciences as part of the friendly team working across the Medical Sciences Division at the University of Oxford.

The Medical Sciences Division at Oxford has been ranked number one in the world for the last twelve years in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings for clinical, pre-clinical and health sciences. Recent accomplishments of the Medical Sciences Division include its research into the COVID-19 pandemic, most notably through the delivery of the Oxford–AstraZeneca vaccine, which is estimated to have saved over 6 million lives.

About the role:

This fundraiser will work closely with the Heads of Departments and academics in the Departments of Psychiatry and Clinical Neurosciences. The post will focus primarily on funding for research, academic posts, scholarships and infrastructure related to Neuroscience which includes Mental Health and neurological disease (e.g. Motor Neurone Disease, Dementia, Parkinson’s, Stroke and Epilepsy). The fundraiser will work on special projects including the possible major capital redevelopment of the Warneford site. While an interest in medical research and neuroscience is essential, you do not need to be a sciences graduate, just an enthusiast for knowledge.

You are an experienced development professional with a strong track record of securing major gifts, a confident approach and the ability to think creatively. You will lead on major gift fundraising (£100k-£1m+) working with a range of donors (corporates, trusts and individuals).

Yet every week 109 children in England – equivalent to three full classrooms – are asked to leave their schools and never come back, with disastrous personal and societal consequences. The Difference, a young education charity, was founded to change the story on this lost learning. It exists to build the status and expertise of teachers working with vulnerable children, particularly those who are excluded from mainstream schools.

By 2030, The Difference want rates of exclusion and absence to be falling nationally and for schools to be better equipped to support all children, including those who may be vulnerable.

The organisation was born out of a year of research into school exclusions with think-tank IPPR. This research identified a lack of inclusion expertise in schools and proposed a new leadership development programme to fill this gap. In 2018, The Difference founder Kiran hired the team who took this idea from concept to reality, beginning work with our first schools.

The Difference is now a 22-strong team delivering multiple school leadership programmes, alongside a growing research and policy arm. The team is supported by our Youth Advisory Board, made up of young people who have experienced exclusion and who provide their expertise and insights on how school inclusion work should be done. This work is needed more than ever. Effects of COVID-19, coupled with the spiralling cost of living, have substantially increased levels of vulnerability. Schools serving excluded pupils face under-funding. The Difference has had excellent early impact but there is work ahead to capture this, share learning with schools and policy-makers, and grow our capacity to lower exclusions across England.

Our first permanent Head of Fundraising will drive the growth and sustainability of our fundraising function. Having proved the impact on exclusions via our programmes, you will help us generate the income to scale this success across the country. We need an expert fundraiser to support this journey. Key Responsibilities

• Drive the delivery of a new fundraising strategy for The Difference, motivating and involving key members of the team, particularly the Development and Impact Manager.
• Build and manage a dynamic portfolio of around 20-30 major individual prospects and donors with capacity to give £50k+, working with key stakeholders to solicit and close asks.
• Grow overall fundraised income from £1.25m to £1.9m annually in next 3 years.
• Write and submit funding proposals to major donors, trusts and foundations, and corporate supporters.
• Support the creation of engaging content from our impact data and case studies, for The Difference’s website and social media that could lead to online fundraising, including feeding into writing press releases as required.
• Build relationships with major trusts/foundations, donors or companies to secure 5 and 6 figure income
• Plan and deliver fundraising outreach to build out our list of fundraising pipeline.

Purpose of Role

Primary responsibilities

Experience

• Minimum seven years' experience in senior level fundraising, ideally in a leadership role with oversight over end-to-end execution. 
• Knowledge of individual, corporate, foundation and major donor fundraising methodology including cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and prospecting of donors.
• Proven track record in leading fundraising and delivering income growth within a similar sized organization.
• Experience in a marketing and public relations role a plus.

ROLE

Stella Maris is growing as a charity, in terms of income generation and new programmes of activity around the world. To help support this development, we have created this new important role. The Fundraising & Communications team at Stella Maris comprises about 12 staff members (some full time; some part time).  The team and the charity have now reached the point in their evolution where we need to appoint a Major Donor Manager. This post holder will offer excellent stewardship to our existing Major Donors. He/she will also help to identify and cultivate new potential Major Donors from within and outside our existing pool of individual donors. He/she will substantially grow the Major Donor income stream for the charity. He/she will cultivate and steward Major Donors to give in new and more impactful ways, will increase giving levels, will increase the number of Major Donors, and will create lasting and meaningful relationships with our most committed and generous supporters. This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic, motivated and effective Major Donor fundraiser. The postholder will help us, as a leading maritime charity, to achieve our mission to support seafarers, fishers and their families around the world.

MAIN PURPOSE

The Major Donor Manager, reporting into the Director of Development and working with some guidance from the Head of Major Gifts, will maintain and grow a stable pipeline of income from Major Donors. He/she will secure unrestricted and restricted income from a portfolio of Major Donors to support the activities of the Stella Maris network in the UK and overseas. He/she will produce cultivation plans for individual Major Donors, meet them, craft tailored applications and reports for them.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1 Manage relationships with a portfolio of Major Donors in accordance with the Charities fundraising strategy and giving programme activity.

2 Establish individual donor cultivation, engagement and stewardship strategies, ensuring each prospect and existing donor has an appropriate communications and cultivation programme in place.

3 Ensure that donor profiling and research activity is undertaken on existing and potential Major Donors (within data protection regulation guidelines) in order to enhance and develop relations.

4 Identify potential Major Donors from within the Mid-Value Donor portfolio and help graduate them up to Major Donor giving levels.

5 Working with the Governance and Executive team, conduct meetings and visits with individual Major Donors around the UK.

6 Accompany Major Donors on port visits within the UK and possibly abroad.

7 Craft carefully tailored applications, thank you letters and reports for Major Donors.

8 Support other senior staff and stakeholders, such as Trustees, in cultivating relationships with Major Donors by providing research and other information as required, and bringing them to meetings with Major Donors when appropriate.

9 Build and cultivate relationships with intermediaries, e.g. wealth advisers, lawyers.

10 Arrange events for Major Donors.

11 Ensure that all activity is recorded accurately on the charity’s Customer Relationship Management database, and that actions are undertaken in a timely and professional manner. 

12 Extract monthly reports on activity levels with Major Donors, e.g. number of contacts, meetings, asks, etc., and circulate this internally to selected senior staff members.

Having already raised £9.9 million for our Up Against Time Appeal, London’s Air Ambulance Charity is currently in the final phase of our campaign to raise £15million by September 2024 to replace our two helicopters. With six months to go, the team are now looking at the opportunities presented by the new 15 year organisational strategy.

The postholder will provide the programme with the stability, expertise and guidance needed to steer the Major Donor team through the first year of a new strateg. They will also be LAAC’s expert on Major Donor fundraising during this time, developing and inspiring the team to be ambitious and results focused to ensure targets and objectives are met. The Trussell Trust are seeking a Philanthropy Executive to join our high-performing Major Donor team. The Philanthropy Executive supports the work of the team with executive tasks and in managing the stewardship communications for a specific caseload tier of supporters. You will help to develop our plans for working with this tier, liaising with the Individual Giving team to manage the donor journey between mid-value and the major donor caseload. You will co-ordinate a tailored programme of stewardship communications and engagement helping to build and deepen long-term relationships and secure income. 

Role responsibilities 

• Stewarding a tier of donors to bring them closer to our work, planning and coordinating a programme of one-to-many communications, asks and appeals as well as quarterly updates (to be used across the major donor caseload), thanking donors, and helping to build understanding of the impact of their support.

• Managing the philanthropy team inbox and providing first point of contact for enquiries and colleagues, fielding them to the relevant team members. 

• Co-ordinating with the Individual Giving mid-value team to effectively manage supporter journeys. Liaising with the Supporter Care team to ensure that contact records are accurate and data protection compliant, and that gifts are coded and recorded correctly on our database. 

• Supporting the Major Donor team with executive tasks such as keeping accurate records, liaising with external suppliers, assisting with comms creation in liaison with the Marcomms teams; sourcing relevant content for donor updates; assisting with mailings and invitations to events; using Salesforce to identify and qualify prospects and performing basic desktop research; producing briefings; producing reports. 

• Attending internal meetings and gathering information to ensure our team are abreast of developments across the organisation.

Technical skills and minimum knowledge: 

• Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing

• A high level of numeracy and IT literacy, including proficiency using Outlook, Microsoft Office suite and video conferencing software.

Parkinson’s UK – Head of Major Gifts
Location: London Victoria, SW1V, hybrid working (minimum of two days per week in person working). Occasional travel will also be required.
Salary: £65k - £70k, depending on experience.

This role will support and inspire an ambitious and high performing team to build propositions, proposals and pipelines in order to unlock opportunities to engage the charity’s supporters and untap networks across the charity, securing vital funds to underpin their strategic programmes and ambitions for people with Parkinson’s. The post-holder will inspire supporters to give their biggest donation and ensure that the organisation is giving its supporters the best experience possible, delivering an annual income target of £6m+. The role will also play a pivotal part in driving a new multi-year, multi-million pound charity appeal.

Maximising the value and contribution of supporters is fundamental to Parkinson’s UK; building networks, understanding what motivates their supporters, and aligning programmes to their charitable interests is key to the charity’s growth plans for Major Gifts. This role will be critical to leading the philanthropy, trust and statutory, special events and prospect research and insights teams (approximately 18 people) and working with colleagues and leaders across the charity to identify prospects and opportunities to give at a transformational level. The post will also be an active member of the Fundraising Leadership Team.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in major gifts fundraising and a proven track record of securing large gifts. They will also have experience of managing a large annual income target and driving continued growth and ensuring targets are met. Strong presentation skills and budgetary skills will be combined with the ability to build positive and high-value relationships across a range of sectors, individuals, organisations and committees. Tyndale House is a renowned institute for biblical studies and possesses one of the finest libraries for biblical research in the world. It aims to grow an international research community, to present the value of the Bible at the highest academic level, to resource the Church to understand and trust the Bible, and to promote informed attitudes to the Bible.

The role of Personal Assistant to the Principal will provide the Principal with proactive and confidential project-related and administrative support, with a particular focus on development and fundraising activities. Our current annual expenditure on charitable activities is around £1.3m and we rely on donations and receive no public subsidy. The Principal therefore acts as both the head of the Charity as well as the primary fundraiser.

The post-holder will possess strong written communication skills, excellent attention to detail and the tenacity to follow work through to completion. He/she should have experience in a previous PA and/or fundraising & development role, ideally within the Charity sector.

ROLE DETAILS 

Standing Voice is looking for an experienced Fundraising Manager based in or near London to join our UK team. This is an exciting and challenging role in a creative and focused working environment, within an organisation with multiple programmes and funding streams across 3 countries. This position suits an ambitious and experienced fundraiser, equipped with excellent written and oral communication skills and a depth of donor management experience. 

The successful candidate will report to the Executive Director and be tasked with advancing & implementing Standing Voice’s Fundraising Strategy including writing grants proposals; diversifying & scaling-up the organisation’s income streams; and managing donor relations and reporting. As well as working alongside UK fundraising, programmes and finance colleagues, the Fundraising Manager will work directly with our teams in Tanzania and Malawi to design and generate project proposals. 

Suitable candidates will demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills; a high level of organisation and accuracy in their work; and concrete experience of generating income through trusts and foundations, corporate partnerships, institutional donors, philanthropy partnerships, and individual giving. Key responsibilities

• Lead and develop SV’s Fundraising Strategy

• Identify, research and implement innovative funding methods to diversify and strengthen SV’s income base

• Secure funding from a diverse portfolio of new and existing donors, including: trusts and foundations; corporate partnerships; institutional donors; philanthropy partnerships; and individual giving

• Host meetings with philanthropists and foundation directors to generate interest in SV’s work and secure support 

• Manage SV’s grant research to maintain a database of viable funding opportunities for the organisation

• Lead the development and writing of concept notes, proposals, presentations and pitches to prospective donors

• Draft funder reports in collaboration programmes and finance teams, and manage report submissions in line with funder agreements

• Work effectively with the Head of Programmes and Partnerships and Finance Manager to collate project information, in order to enhance funding applications and reports

• Manage SV’s donor management tools

• Build relationships with our donors to foster long-term partnerships

• Identify and execute funding campaigns, including our annual Big Give Christmas match funding challenge

• Track and monitor fundraising progress, trends, and insights, and provide reports to executive management and the Board of Trustees

• Recruit new staff and volunteers to the fundraising team in line with available budget

• Delegate effectively to fundraising team members, ensuring tasks are clearly defined, properly supported and well monitored 

• Remain abreast of current trends in fundraising and donor interests

• Adhere to the Code of Fundraising Practice and all internal policies at SV

• Undertake any other reasonable duties at the request of the line manager
