We’re looking for a new Community Rail Support Officer based in southern England and the Midlands, to support our network of community rail partnerships (CRPs) and station adoption groups.  

About us 

Community Rail Network is a not-for-profit organisation, working across Britain, supporting a growing ‘community rail’ movement, which helps communities get the most from their railways, promotes sustainable and inclusive travel, coordinates volunteering and place-making, and brings people together. 

Community rail is made up of 75 community-based partnership organisations, and around 1,200 station friends volunteer groups and other community-led initiatives around Britain. Their activities range from creative projects for young people, to advising train operators on service improvements, to building travel confidence with families and disabled people, to biodiversity projects at stations, to promoting greener travel and tourism by rail. 

Our enthusiastic team of 22 works mainly from home in different locations, but we come together regularly in person and online. We work collaboratively to advise our members, provide training, events and resources, run campaigns, and champion community rail and its insights via decision-makers and the media. We believe in developing our team and supporting everyone to reach their potential while having a good work-life balance. 

About this role 

The purpose of this role is to provide support and advice to community rail partnerships and groups in the South of England and Midlands, on working effectively and delivering maximum benefit to their communities and railways.

You’ll be comfortable engaging and advising local groups and communities to extend existing and set up new initiatives, and to reach wider audiences with an evidence-led, place-based approach. As well as supporting local groups, you’ll work closely with the rail industry, and wider third and public sector partners to ensure collaboration and shared success.

Main responsibilities 

1. Provide direct support and advice to CRPs and their officers, and other community rail groups in the region. This includes responding to queries and requests, passing on specialist queries to other members of the team, and providing proactive support through our accreditation review process and as set out in our plans; 
2. Support the development of skills, confidence and effectiveness across the network of CRPs and station groups, helping them to increase their positive social, environmental and economic impact, including through referral to our training, events and resources; 
3. Support the development of emerging community rail partnerships, station friend groups and community-led stations and railway-related projects in the region;
4. Helping our members to work effectively with rail, transport, local government and community partners, supporting effective relationship building and showing positive leadership and insights on community rail within the region; 
5. Work with the Support Manager on delivery and monitoring of our grant schemes, and support CRPs and groups in the region to apply, deliver successfully and report back on funded work; 
6. Gather and share examples, feedback and insights from our members across the region, to facilitate best practice sharing and confidence across community rail and to feed into our communications, resources, events and public affairs work; 
7. As a member of the Community Rail Network team, participate and contribute to our wider work as relevant, such as Community Rail Week, our annual conference and Awards. 

Skills, competencies and experience 

1. Skills in in supporting community engagement projects; an understanding of and confidence in using community engagement, local communications, project planning and evaluation techniques
2. Interpersonal skills and the ability to work confidently with stakeholders at all levels and facilitate positive discussion; articulate and assertive 
3. Excellent writing and presentational skills 
4. Awareness of sustainable transport and social inclusion, and an appreciation of the importance of rail, sustainable travel and mobility to communities 
5. A demonstrable ability to manage time effectively and juggle a range of activities in an organised and professional manner;
6. Proactive, positive and self-motivated, able to work on own initiative and inspire and enthuse others, and overcome hurdles to achieve results; 
7. IT literate with a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, the internet and social media 

Other information 

• This post is home-based, but with regular travel (including overnight stays) within the south of England and Midlands, and nationally for team meetings
• The Community Rail Support Officer reports to the Support Manager within the Support and Development team
• Hours are 37 hours per week.  A degree of flexibility and out-of-hours working (evenings and weekends) will be required, together with some travel and overnight absences
• This is a permanent position and includes a probationary period of three months from the date of appointment

Key Responsibilities:

VCFSE Sector Development (15%)

• Support organisations to develop their knowledge and skills in the following areas;

- Governance, organisation strategy, financial strategy, monitoring and evaluation, volunteer management, trustee development and funding applications. This support will primarily be through a one-to-many model and occasionally through paid-for one-to-one support to individual organisations.

Insights and Research (25%)

• Research the VCFSE sector across Cheshire East, understanding:

- How statutory and health services interact and evolve.

- How changes impact and affect VCFSE organisations and the people within this community.

• Collect insights from interaction with the sector and analyse findings with your work colleagues.
• Keep abreast of the latest information and updates within this sector.

Networking (20%)

• Facilitate networking and collaborative working between organisations.
• Attend statutory/health meetings, contribute VCFSE sector insights into these meetings and share insights gained with the team and then back to relevant VCFSE organisations.

Administration (15%)

• Understand and implement the key principles of monitoring and evaluation as an improvement tool.
• Recording all interactions on Salesforce for dissemination and analysis.

Project & Stakeholder Management (25%)

• Prioritise workload and deliver the requirements within a set parameter of time.
• Develop, maintain and manage a diverse range of stakeholder relationships.
• Be an active team member and contribute to CVS projects as they arise.

About the role

The Programme Officer is a new role at Tudor Trust and offers an exciting opportunity to lead transformative initiatives that amplify the voices of under-resourced communities and contribute to systemic change. By the end of 2024, we expect to have three Programme Officers in place. 

As a Programme Officer, you will play a pivotal role in reshaping Tudor’s grant-making approach, fostering collaborative relationships with grantees and stakeholders, and contributing to strategic thinking to drive long-term racial, social, and economic change.  

The Programme Officers together will oversee a different approach to distributing our funding, which could range from small start-up grants, long term multi-year funding, through to a big bet approach with a focus on larger scale collaboration.

Grant-making Rebuild

• Take a proactive role in rebuilding Tudor’s grant-making strategy, identifying opportunities to develop alternative networks and power-building initiatives within disproportionately disadvantaged communities impacted by discrimination.
• Hold a grant-making portfolio and work closely with grantees to develop comprehensive change strategies that foster broader societal impact.
• Build genuine and respectful relationships with organisations and leaders in the field, actively identifying potential funding relationships and opportunities for collaboration.
• Apply a JEDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion) lens to guide funding decisions towards under-resourced groups and leaders, taking accountability for equitable decision-making.
• Building careful dialogue between Tudor’s staff, trustees and advisors to ensure all decisions are understood.
• Effectively manage budgets, ensuring funds are allocated with diligence and accuracy.

Collaboration, Listening and Dialogue

• Maintain a curious and open mindset towards potential grantees, actively listening to their perspectives and how they want to describe themselves. • Proactively network grantees with each other and wider stakeholders, creating spaces for meaningful dialogue through workshops and other meeting platforms.
• Collaborate with Tudor colleagues and stakeholders to develop a grant-making approach rooted in inquiry and learning, aimed at achieving sustainable racial, social, and economic change.

Learning and Strategic Thinking

• Bring insights from grant-making experiences back to Tudor, contributing to challenging and evolving strategic thinking within the organisation.
• Identify and articulate key themes emerging from grant-making activities, providing valuable insights into how social change is being achieved.
• Contribute to developing frameworks, using different methods, on how to best capture the learnings, social change and wider impacts of grantees activities.  
• Undertake research and commission studies on issues related to racial, economic, and social justice, contributing to Tudor’s deeper understanding of the wider landscape and systemic challenges.
• Assist in wider communications to amplify Tudor’s mission and impact through the website, newsletters, formal presentations and networks in the field.

Previous experience in grant making is not essential. We will collaborate with you to define the responsibilities of the role, taking an iterative and reflective approach and we’ll keep reviewing and improving it together.

Ways of Working:

The majority of our roles can be performed remotely in the UK, but there are likely to be times when you will be required to come to your contracted office (up to 2-4 days per month or 6-8 days per quarter).  This will be agreed with your Line Manager and team and is intended to be time spent on collaborating with colleagues and relationship building.

Dementia is the leading cause of death in the UK. By 2025, it’s estimated that over one million people in the UK will have a diagnosis of dementia – and almost all of us will know someone living with the condition. Dementia UK’s specialist nurses support those living with or affected by dementia through specialist clinics around the UK, helplines and virtual clinics.

Dementia UK have recently been successful in securing a significant partnership within the financial sector. This partnership will dramatically increase the reach of their work, funding more Admiral Nurses, as well as increasing the reach of fundraising campaigns including ‘Time for a Cuppa’.

Dementia UK will also be working with the partner, which has a reach of millions of people across the UK, to support their staff and customers who are affected by dementia.

The partnership will be large and complex, working with multiple stakeholders across both the partner and internally at Dementia UK. The role will project manage against agreed plans, as well as constantly consider new and exciting projects the partner may wish to support.

This role would suit somebody who has managed large partnerships before, who can project manage with confidence, and who would bring a new business approach to the partnership.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and deliver the charity partnership, delivering the financial commitment and achieving wider partnership objectives that add value to both Dementia UK and the Partner
• Coordinate and maximise the delivery of the agreed programme including clinical support for customers, tailored Dementia at Work activity and sponsorship of key fundraising and awareness campaigns
• Identify opportunities for employee fundraising and volunteering activities, using virtual and in person events to engage key stakeholders
• Position yourself as the face of Dementia UK, proactively building networks across the business and confidently presenting to all audiences in a range of different settings
• Develop messaging and powerful stories to communicate the partnership and its impact across the business, proactively spotting opportunities for internal and external communications and ensuring our visibility remains high across the partnership
• Be the main point of contact at Dementia UK for everything related to the partnership, identifying opportunities to add value to internal teams and for them to support with planned activity. Key stakeholders include Head of Philanthropy and Partnerships, Clinical Services colleagues, Marketing and Communications colleagues, Community and Events fundraisers, and the Policy and Public Affairs team
• Work closely with the Partner and Dementia UK’s Insights and Evaluation team to meet all reporting requirements

Essential criteria

• Experience of managing £500k+ partnerships (ideally in a charity setting)
• Experience of managing multiple strategic projects alongside each other
• In-depth knowledge and understanding of stakeholder management and engagement
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to adapt style to suit the audience
• Experience of managing, influencing and negotiating with senior stakeholders
• Experience of preparing engaging proposals, reports and other written documents
• Experience of working with a wide range of stakeholders within a company, and ideally with experience of encouraging fundraising participation and involvement at all levels
• Experience of developing detailed partnership plans

This role is offered on a permanent basis paying a salary between £46,771 to £48,858 per annum with flexible hybrid or remote working arrangements in the UK.

The post holder is the lead person responsible for developing 38 Degrees Major Gifts approach and strategy together with the CEO. They are responsible for crafting and operationalising the strategy to achieve strong income growth across high-net-worth individuals, foundations, grant giving institutions and their new higher level regular giving supporter group (Avalanche Network). Reporting to the Campaigns Director, the post holder will work to ensure 38 Degrees is able to better sustain its work by leveraging the support of people able to give more, and institutions who provide progressive campaigning organisations like 38 Degrees with financial support to power a movement to change the country for the better.

They are looking for someone with demonstrable experience in working with communities, foundations, and high net worth individuals, and in leading projects that have generated income from fundraising. They are looking for a candidate with demonstrable experience and knowledge in creating plans and strategies for fundraising projects and working with senior management towards strategic income initiatives. The ideal candidate will have an understanding of the political landscape and an ability to apply political knowledge to develop effective fundraising approaches and tactics.

As Major Partnerships Lead you will spearhead our ground-breaking charity partnership with M&S, steering a multidisciplinary team of YoungMinds' colleagues.  You will be an experienced charity partnership lead or corporate account management expert, with outstanding agile delivery/project management skills, confident relationship-building and negotiation skills, alongside experience of leading programmes with multiple workstreams and stakeholders to deliver impact.

You will be responsible for effective delivery of the partnership towards its ambitious goal of raising £5 million over the next three years, enabling YoungMinds to double its reach to young people, and help get our annual awareness campaign, #HelloYellow, into every primary school in the UK. You will work creatively with our partner and steering group to shape both fundraising and purpose driven activity to maximise our impact for young people.

As an experienced agile professional, you will work with key stakeholders to understand project requirements and priorities. Your people skills help you to bring disparate teams and opinions together and have them focussed on an agreed shared outcome.

The successful candidate will have:

• experience of leading a large charity partnership or corporate fundraising function
• knowledge and experience of delivery management and/or project management methods, with a track record of successfully delivering outcomes
• experience of leading commercial negotiations
• experience of establishing and embedding effective systems and processes
• proven ability to establish credibility and manage and sustain strong relationships with a number of senior stakeholders

We’re looking for a Trusts and Foundations Officer to join our team

Salary: Circa £30k

Base: Central Edinburgh/hybrid

Hours: Full time and permanent.  35 hours a week over core working hours of 10am - 3pm, Monday to Friday, with a one-hour lunch break. The office is open 8am – 6pm daily and our hybrid working policy requires all full-time employees to work at least two days a week in the Edinburgh office.
