What is Geek.Zone?
Geek.Zone is the community for geeks! We come together through our shared interests, so no matter what your hobby or passion is, you are sure to find like-minded people at Geek.Zone. We are not-for-profit too, so you know that every penny helps to build the community, not a fat cat.
What are we doing?
We are working toward opening Geek.Zone/01 - our first community hub - next year, so there are many interesting projects to get your teeth into! See http://Geek.Zone/01 for more info.
To open this great community space, we need systems that can manage it, so we are working on an exciting new open-source Python Django project that will become the heart of everything Geek.Zone does. Starting with membership management, we are aiming to automate almost everything, so that our member experience is entirely seamless.
In Geek.Zone/01, we will have everything from laser cutters to Mega Drives and as you can imagine, everything has a running cost. The goal is that a member will be able to register as a member, log in to their account and set the donations they wish to contribute towards those costs, then use their membership card to open the door and activate the laser cutter. The donation would then be collected from the member at the end of the month, so no need for cash. This makes it entirely user friendly!
