The Role 
 
As our Policy and Cancer Insight Assistant you will play a vital role in supporting the Cancer Insight Team to develop policy papers, present data on cancer in Yorkshire, and conduct influencing work to increase support for Yorkshire Cancer Research. 

 
Supporting the Policy officer, you will perform a range of tasks to support the Cancer Insight Team's goals. This involves informing internal employees, supporters, and the public about the charity’s stance on multiple cancer-related topics. Additionally, you will assist with collecting data and evidence related to cancer in Yorkshire, crucial for understanding regional needs and shaping the charity’s objectives.  
 

Specifically, you will: 

• Support the Policy Officer to conduct literature reviews and research for policy development and updates. 

• Monitor political announcements, developments and parliamentary news at a national and regional level to inform both policy and public affairs workstreams. 

• Support the Public Affairs Officer with the research of key public affairs targets and their interests, plus undertake regular stakeholder analyses at a national and regional level. 

• Draft reports, letters, briefings, background resources, parliamentary questions and ensure that the correct messages are conveyed in every external-facing communication. 

• Support the Data and Impact Officer in the maintenance of a portfolio of regularly updated external data, facts, statistics, and evidence relevant to cancer in Yorkshire. 

• Support the preparation of reports relating to external and internal data requests, including assisting with the regularly updated factsheets. 

• Assist in the preparation of data requests from across the charity - these will largely be to support the Research, Services and Policy, and Brand & Relationships teams, and could include data and information for press releases, social media, presentations, and planning of future work and priority areas. 

 
About You 

To be considered for this role, you will need: 

• To have experience of working in a relevant subject area, for example politics, public policy, public health or a similar humanities field. 

• To have an understanding of local, regional and national government, the healthcare system in the UK, the current health policy landscape and UK parliamentary processes. 

• To have experience of conducting literature reviews. 

• To have experience of researching a wide variety of topics and organisations and writing evidence-based documents e.g. summary reports, briefings or letters. 

• To have a passion for policy and influencing in order to deliver impactful change. 

• To have excellent written and verbal skills.

• To have the ability to comprehend health datasets. 

• To have the ability to identify relevant political updates. 

• To have the ability to extract key information from journal articles concerning health and policy. 

• To have excellent organisation and time management skills.

We're on the lookout for a passionate and dynamic Store Manager to join our retail team in the heart of Bletchley (Milton Keynes)

This is a full-time role working 35 hours per week (5 days out of 7)

About the role

Our Store Managers lead by example - making bold decisions and taking action if things are not working. You will have the passion and leadership skills to motivate a team of staff and volunteers, encouraging them to bring new ideas and to build their knowledge of the BHF.  Great customer service is essential to maximise income as is the sourcing and merchandising of products and understanding all cost-effective income streams, with omni-channel and online being priority to deliver our retail proposition.

This position is for 35 hours and includes weekends on a rota basis.

The Role 

The role of Retail Support Manager involves actively running our shops in the absence of our Shop Managers. The role requires managing the day-to-day operation of the shop including managing a team of volunteers, ensuring accurate accounting and handling of assets, delivering high standards of customer service, and adhering to all charity policies and procedures.  

You will lead by example and ensure that volunteers, supporters, donors, and customers understand how their contributions are making a difference to the lives of people in Yorkshire and beyond.  
 

Specifically, you will: 

• Provide management cover at Retail locations as required by the charity currently including (but not limited to): Knaresborough Shop, Northallerton Shop, Pickering Shop, Ripon Shop, Harrogate Shop, Hornbeam Park Shop, Skipton Shop, Leeds Shop, Yeadon Shop, Donation Centre in Harrogate and subsequent locations as the charity grows. Depending on the role holder’s geographic location we can agree which areas will be covered. 

• Lead a team of volunteers to deliver an outstanding customer experience. 

• Manage agreed shop operating policy and standards including Health and Safety and Trading Standards in the absence of the Shop Manager. 

• Deliver any volunteer training required and take every effort to create a welcoming and happy environment. 

• Responsible for volunteer training and engagement, ensuring the volunteer management system is actively kept up to date in the absence of the Shop Manager. 

• Ensure there is management cover and sufficient volunteers to operate all trading hours. 

• Ensure accurate accounting and handling of assets (items donated and money received). 

• Responsible for ensuring accurate record keeping of items donated and the amount paid for each item for Gift Aid tax reclaim purposes at each location. 

• Prepare and complete all shop administration including cash handling and banking functions to the highest standard, accurately and on time, always adhering to charity policy and procedures at each location. 

• Create a welcoming professional atmosphere and deliver high standards of customer service for all customers and supporters. 

 
About You 

To be considered for this role, you will need: 

• To be ideally educated to A Level or equivalent. 

• To have experience of managing people/volunteers including recruitment and development. 

• To have previous retail experience in the charity sector or commercial sector is desirable. 

• To have experience of meeting and exceeding targets within a retail environment. 

• To be highly organised with good time management skills. 

• To have the ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines. 

• To have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 

• To be resilient and adaptable to change.  

• To have a full UK driving licence, access to own vehicle and ability to travel across Yorkshire. 

• To have a DBS check at an enhanced level due to the requirement to train volunteers who may be under the age of 18 years.

At WithYou we are looking for a Regional Head of Marketing and Communications (East of England) to join our organisation. This is a part time, fixed term maternity cover position working 30 hours per week until May 2025. The role is home based with regional travel across the East of England (predominately the North East). This role will join our Marketing and Communications directorate, an innovative team of people who are committed to raising the profile of WithYou and connecting with our stakeholders in new ways. 

Reporting into the Director of Marketing and Communications, you will take the lead in running the reactive press office function as well as planning and delivering a regular calendar of national proactive media moments, securing positive national coverage in print, broadcast and digital channels. You will also be responsible for evaluating the results and measuring the impact of the media coverage you secure.

In this role you will be responsible for developing a wide range of high- quality media materials including press releases, opinion pieces, blogs and statements.

You will provide co-ordinated localised media and general communications support to our Regional Heads of Marketing and Communications. This includes taking a proactive approach to generating story ideas in local areas, coordinating joint press activities and attending press opportunities in England and Scotland. 

You will also contribute to other content development such as collecting stories, producing film, photo and social media and website posts, working to grow WithYou’s reputation and influence, supporting our income generation activities.

This is a full time, permanent position based from home. The salary for this role is £37,000 - £42,000 per annum.

REQUIRED SKILLS

We are looking for candidates with excellent creative writing skills and experience in creating content for a wide range of audiences, making complex articles interesting and accessible to all. You will have an excellent news sense and the ability to generate a hook for a story, with proven ability in securing media coverage. Strong organisational skills and being able to plan ahead are key to this role, along with experience of working to tight deadlines.

How you will make a difference

I support key projects to increase opportunities for people severely affected by mental illness and their carers to improve their physical activity levels, physical health and quality of life.

I support the work of the Physical Activity and Physical Health team within Rethink Mental Illness. This includes supporting the successful delivery of a Sport England funded project to embed system level change in Tower Hamlets and North East Lincolnshire to reduce barriers to physical activity for people severely affected by mental illness.  

I liaise with internal and external stakeholders to support the smooth running and delivery of project activity. I also support the wider team on physical health and activity related projects.

Area Operations Manager

Salary: £38,091 + £5,100 Car Cash Allowance per annum

Location: This is a working from home role, with a reporting base location of Norton, Daventry, NN6 7PE, with regular travel around the southern operational area of the East Midlands region. We are looking for an Area Operations Manager to cover the southern operational area within the East Midlands regional canal network, working from home with a reporting base of Norton, Daventry.

About the Team

Volunteering Leaders plan and deliver a wide range of volunteer activities and events, assist operational teams in their task management of volunteering activities and liaise with volunteers, volunteer groups and supervisors. Volunteering Leaders are also tasked with delivering day-to-day works in Operations & Environment, such as general maintenance & repair work. This may include operating Waterway Control Structures (further training will be provided) & planned maintenance and reactive works.

We are looking for two full-time qualified and experienced Social Workers to provide support to children and young people diagnosed with cancer and their families. The roles are permanent, 35 hours per week.

Our work is rewarding but also complex and demanding; you will need to be resourceful and resilient. You will work closely within our supportive Young Lives vs Cancer team, an established NHS multi-disciplinary team and with services in the community.

This role falls under the hybrid - variable category. Your contractual base will be both home, Leeds General Infirmary and St James teaching Hospital, Leeds.
