Job Description     

This is new role which provides plenty of variety and development and the opportunity to support and develop skills in several income streams.  The post holder will work collaboratively with the fundraising and communications teams and closely with the Fundraising Managers in Philanthropy and Trusts and Foundations.   

The post holder will be responsible for the following:   

Fundraising activities 

  • Manage direct marketing appeals including our flagship annual Christmas appeal – taking the lead on the direct mail and email campaign and contributing to the digital campaign plans on social media and the website.  

  • Maximise engagement and retention of individual supporters (giving at a lower level) by prompt thanking, excellent stewardship and building effective donor journeys, 

  • Manage (or work towards managing) a small portfolio of trusts, foundations and other grant-making bodies which involves drafting applications and meeting reporting deadlines.    

Fundraising support  

  • Assist the Fundraising Managers by compiling information to support applications and reporting.   

  • Conduct research into current and prospective donors to assist with seeking, identifying and prioritising fundraising opportunities. 

  • Support the growth in the number of regular givers and the value of donations.  

  • Support the development and implementation of in-memoriam and legacy giving schemes.   

Fundraising Administration   

  • Create and update donor records as required on CRM system (Donorflex), ensuring relevant records are kept up to date, accurate and consistent at all times.   

  • Support the Finance and Admin Assistant and other Fundraising Officer as and when needed to manage the processing of donations.  This may involve scanning cheques, coding bank transfers and web donations, entering details in the database, banking cash and setting up Direct Debits.  


  • Stay well informed of existing and new fundraising legislation and guidance from the Chartered Institute of Fundraising.   

  • Build excellent working relationships with existing donors, the Board of Trustees, staff, volunteers and other stakeholders who help promote the charity.   

  • Attend and participate in team meetings, and other ad hoc meetings when necessary.   

  • Carry out the functions of the post with proper regard to Glass Door’s Equal Opportunities Policy.   

Person Specification  


Knowledge and Experience   

  • Experience of project management.   

  • Experience of using a fundraising database to segment and select data, produce reports and analyse information.   

  • Experience of basic copywriting to produce fundraising letters and other materials.   

  • A keen interest in developing skills and income from trusts and foundations.  We are open to the post holder starting in a support capacity and working towards managing a small portfolio of supporters. 

  • Understanding and experience of developing and stewarding relationships. 

Skills and aptitudes   

  • Strong research, analysis and numeracy skills.  

  • Excellent attention to detail, taking pride in work at all times.   

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to adapt style appropriately.   

  • Ability to work under pressure, manage time effectively and prioritise a varied workload.   

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with a wide range of stakeholders and audiences, particularly our fundraisers, donors and volunteers.   

  • Competent IT skills in standard Microsoft packages (Word, Excel and Outlook) and CRM/supporter databases.

  • A positive approach, willingness to roll up your sleeves and get involved as needed and to develop the role and yourself as Glass Door grows.  

  • Initiative and follow-through: highly organised and self-motivated with an ability to set, prioritise and work independently through a calendar of deadlines and goals.   

  • Collaborative: able to work well within the Fundraising and Communications team.   

  • Compassionate: insightful and sympathetic to the challenges faced by people experiencing homelessness and a passion to help improve their lives’. 

  • Someone who enjoys the dynamics of a small (but growing), vibrant and busy office.   

  • Willingness to work flexible hours occasionally, for example at evenings and weekends.  


  • Experience of project managing direct marketing activities and campaigns.  

  • Experience of seeking funds from trusts and foundations and managing the relationships and grant reporting. 

  • Up to date knowledge of the regulatory regime around fundraising and data protection.   

  • Experience of managing and working alongside volunteers.   

  • Strong public speaking skills and experience of presenting to donors.
